Miami at Atlanta, Your thoughts ?

welcome.....this will be a good game....its in atlanta.....the crowd will be rocking....but i have a feeling miami gets all over ryan....sacks him alot.....and we pull out the W....17-10

 

99% of all players look good in shorts, let's wait until the pads go on. Right now I'm more focused on the start of training camp and see what we really have.

You guys picking up Gonzo from KC will be a big help for Ryan, even if he has to stay in a block a few more plays then normal. I think Chad P can pick apart any defense if he is given some time, so if you guys can get some pressure on Chad, it really limits his throws, (see how Baltimore kicked out azz, twice)

 

First of all, welcome to the site, it's always good to have fans from other teams join the discussion.

I think it's going to be a tough matchup, both teams exceeded expectations last year and both seem to have improved during the offseason. I think Gonzo is going to add another dimension to your passing game, nothing is more important to a young QB than having a reliable safety net at TE for him to use when pressured. That's really going to test Miami's pass D. Turner is going to keep our defense busy all day, that's one matchup I'm not looking forward to. Ryan was impressive last year, I was one of the folks who thought he would flop, but the kid proved me wrong. If he can continue to build of off last years success and take advantage of the weapons around him, Atlanta could very well run away with the game. I think alot of folks here are downplaying how good your offense is, that's a mistake IMO.

I'm not really sure how much the Dolphin's OL improved, we spent money on Grove but his ability to stay healthy is going to make or break the unti IMO. Infact our interior OL has had trouble staying healthy lately, so it's going to be a wait and see game by game approach. The other factor for Miami is going to be the wildcat, how effective it is and how often it's used. If Miami can limit Turner and run the ball effectively, that should give Pennington some room to work and Miami a good chance to go home with the win.

So my prediction is a non-prediction, but I expect an exciting game. Hope you stick around.

 

There might or there might not be any wrinkles to the new Wildcat.That will keep Atlanta thinking on what to expect.Remember it's the 1st game of the year and even us fan's don't know what formations will come out of it.


I will go with SICK'S prediction of 17-10 Fins.

 

Miami has to prove that it can control the line of scrimage and the clock. Atlanta has to prove that it has improved their ability to stop the run. Arizona completely ran all over Atlanta in the playoffs just like Baltimore dominated us. Bottom line, it could go either way.

With Gonzalez on your squad I'm awarding you a score, so already you're up 7-0. I don't care how old the man is. He's a beast. I remember watching a game at a friend's house for the first time and bragging with all my Miami bravado, "Trent who? We're gonna murder these losers." Then the not yet scrambled eggs went on to massacre our upper echelon defense with the help of mainly one weapon- made poor Zach Thomas look, well... poor.

In all honesty, who knows though? We're both hand raised to god witnesses as to what a difference a year makes and the chances of Matt Ryan having a sophomore slump are about the same as Chad Pennington sustaining an injury (heaven forbid, knock on wood, spit, salt over the shoulder, kick a cat), which is to say, fair.

IMO, whoever dominates the line of scrimmage will win the day. If we can terrorize Turner keeping the secondary focused on their objective and not the play action, I like our chances. If you guys can railroad Ronnie Ravens style, perhaps tame a possible wildcat Pat, I like yours.

Eitherway, congratulations on the success. Although I wanted a lineman, I made a many a statements on this very forum predicting that Ryan would be a bawla. I said he reminded me of a Rothlisberger and even though they have different styles they attain the same results. I'm glad my genius is also your gain.

Abraham Vs Long should be interesting Jake might struggle a bit with his speed...but Id imagine we will run at him a lot and when that happens your going to think Abraham is wearing skates.

 

Good to have another football fan checking out the site. Welcome! I think this is a very interesting matchup. We basically have the two teams that surprised everyone last year matching up against each other this year. Questions abound which will determine the outcome of this game. Will Atl be able to get pressure on the Pennington? Will the Dolphins be able to establish the line of scrimmage and run the ball effectively? Will Ryan show that last year wasn't a fluke and avoid the sophomore jinx? Will one of the two teams continue on the momentum they established last year? Will one of them fall back into the chasm of the "below average" in the NFL? Needless to say, this is one of the games that I'm really looking forward to this year.

 

I haven't heard about that. How do you see them working the 3-4? Personally, I'm having trouble seeing it.

 

That's part of what I was getting to.The Fins might not even run the WC in the 1st game.As long as the other team is guessing and using there practice time on it(to try and defend it).The more effective it will be.

Yes, I see you lost Brookings(good player there). How are are other LB's doing?
Are they ready to stop the run which has been a problem last year? I feel you have a good team on the rise also.It should be a very good game.

Falcons offense will be a handful with Gonzo adding to it.

Sidbury and Jerry could help the pass-rsuh, but I don;t see the interior of the Falcons line being stout against the run. Jerry is not a tree-stump, and also DT's take years to mature at the NFL level. Look at Glenn Dorsey in KC... he has been so-so at best.

The Falcons also shored up their secondary depth with William Moore at Safety, Chris Owens and William Middleton at CB. I think if we establish a strong inside running game, then our playaction will become a real probelm for the Falcons. A couple deep passes against a young secondary who'll bite on playaction.

Our key is running inside.

Defensively, Our LB corps has to step up. The OLB's must get to Ryan and contain Turner. The ILB's must cover Gonzalez and meet Turner in the hole.

 

This has historically been a problem with the Dolphins.Not just covering the likes of Gonzo,but TE's in general.
I feel,as you mentioned,we need to contain Turner.That should be our #1 priority.
The one that scares me is Roddy White.He finally came into his own last year and needs to NOT get past the DB's.This is a must.......

He dominated younger and better pass rushers last year, I'm not worried about Abraham.

 

I see on your roster a 1 technique nose tackle in Peria Jerry, who I worry about playing there. And then you have Kindal Moorehead and Johnathan Babineaux to play end, which I'm not sure can do the job.

 

I think it will be a hell of a game. Both teams have good running games and passing games. Good defenses too. It could be a shootout, or it could be a defensive slugfest. I'm not going to make a prediction because I don't want to jinx the Phins. lol I will say that it won't be a blowout.

Also, if you're there, look over at section 103. I'll be there with a group of 100+ Phins fans.

You're right, I forgot about Anderson. I figured he was going to be a strong side linebacker.

Yeah, as a 4-3 down linemen. I don't know about him playing nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme.

That's how I honestly see it and not because we are that much better than the Falcons - we are not - but because they are the unfortunate team that will have to open up against us. I just get this soooo strong hunch we are going to come out flying and hitting for this game and a lot of this is because this team is STILL getting dissed by the "experts".

If people think our chip on our shoulder was big last year....

 

My thoughts are it's going to be a tough game. ATL has a ton of fire power. The deciding factor will be TOS. Miami plays a tough, grinding, ball control game. It's going to be TOS who decides who wins. Who's defense shows up to play will be the deciding factor.

 

I'll be in the club level 50 yrd line row 3. I'm hoping to have a good time in your town. If you can give us any tips on some local fun spots down town, it would be appreciated. I can't wait to visit the Georgia dome for the first time. It is too early for predictions. Both teams had a great season.

 

My prediction: Atlanta wins 34-13

Too much offense. Michael the burner Turner, Matty Ice, Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, Jerious Norwood, Tony Gonzalez, and a great OLine. Too many weapons.

my predictions are usually wrong. Therefore i predict the falcons will beat the dolphins.

 

Offensively - your DL is solid, but I think our OL will handle them. They are big, strong, athletic guys. Abraham is the one to watch. If we can control his pressures, we will have our way on offense. I can see Ronnie starting out the season with a solid game, while Pennington will be all the place (in a good way) with our WR corps.
We dont have that 1 WR that you need to focus on, but the depth is solid. Our 2-4 are very good and full of capable guys. I am most interested for Ted Ginn this year. Year 3, the year WRs generally break out. If the light goes off and he lives up to his potential he will be a probowler. Otherwise he will just a specialist really.

Defensively, we will have our hands full, no doubt. Your OL is pretty solid overall. You will get a good test from a solid passrush. The development of our youth will be a big tell for us in this game. If we can get some pressure on Ryan from guys like Langford and Merling, it will be a tough game for you. If your OL handles our DL you guys will really put up some points.
Our young secondary will also be tested with the likes of Gonzo and Roddy White on the deep ball. Our safties will be busy both helping on those 2 guys and providing run support against the Burner.

Unlike many, I was a Ryan supporter in the draft, the kid had a good aura and I never got all the hate he was given. I am, however, interested to see how he comes out in year 2. Many second year guys hit the "sophmore slump" and if Ryan does, it will hurt you guys badly. If he comes out better than last year, you guys are on your way to the playoffs barring a horrible defense.

Bottom line? I think its a fairly high scoring game. 27-24 Miami due to my bias, but I could definitely see it going either way.

 

I think it'll be interesting to see Chris Clemons thoughts on Matt Ryan because Clemons faced Ryan the last three years and they ran the Quarters defense at Clemson. Here's Ryan's numbers against Clemson the last three years, by the way.

2005 - 24/42, 221 yards, 57 completion %, 0 TD's / 2 INT's
2006 - 22/38, 212 yards, 57.9 completion %, 1 TD / 0 INT's
2007 - 31/47, 312 yards, 66% completion &, 1 TD / 1 INT

As you can see, he's gotten better each time he's faced it.

EDIT: Also, I also recall USC running the Quarters quite often so Sam Baker has seen it. Now its a matter of figuring out if he identifies any things that look similar to him when he sees it again week one.

 

I agree. I'm just pointing out Matt Ryan's career against the Quarters .

 

I think it had to do more with Ryan's development over the years.

Miami wins 28-10. Yes, the Falcons have alot of firepower. But a good defense beats a good offense anyday.

They have a better than good offense. I'm not so impressed with Miami's secondary. Young. Question marks. Inexperience. Matt Ryan and Turner will have a field day.

I'm sure you have predictions about the Jets that will anger me, so I guess we're even.
