I would be an interested reader of anything you could tell me about that Lucky.. Opie, my apologies for taking your thread off topic bro.. I just can't stop myself when it gets into pioneer history
I'm not a violent person, but if someone ever hurt my dogs, I would have no problem bashing their face in with a tire iron.
Most of this is hearsay from my dad, I will ask my uncle though. He has done alot of our family tree. The really sad thing is my moms history is almost completely unknown.
Mostly.. Uncle Charlie finished his 690 page memoir 1934, and refused to let Theodore Pratt read it. After he died his son allowed Pratt to read it and on page 502 he read the words "barefoot route" which is what the pioneers called it. He then extrapolated "Barefoot mailmen" and a new term was born. The first attempt was from New Smyrna by Caleb Brayton 1850. His subcontractor hit the beach probably at Jupiter (before the lighthouse was built), had no support whatsoever, AND had to worry about Indians.. there was a still another war yet to be fought. The mail carriers of the 1880's never had further than 25 miles to walk before they had shelter at Orange Grove, or Ft. Lauderdale House of Refuge.
Not my lima bean. She's not a barker. Once in a while when the giant boxer, Monster, that lives down the street from us walks by Bean lets lose. Monster just walks up to her, snorts, and walks away. Doesn't bark at all at night. This kills me as the owner of a beautiful Chihuahua. Thank goodness we don't live in Florida. I let my Bean stay out on the front porch every day for many hours because she just loves to lay in the sun.
