I read some stats on CC last year (it might have come from CK) and CC does a pretty good job of hitting the right gap. IMO he doesn't get there early like ZT used to or bring great ferocity but he usually made the right decision and brought the player down. If anybody is calling him out for hitting the wrong gap then that criticism is misplaced.

And when you add in his pretty good coverage ability then IMO he would be worth 2/3 of what Scott got. However, looking at the contract numbers posted in this thread it seems that we got CC at a bargain price.

I do agree that Torbor's contract seems high, though.

Last year it was depth at NT and ILB that was an unresolved problem. The starters played pretty well.

Let's hope both Soliai and Tobor step up and play to their potential.

Channing Crowder will please big time in 2009. he will step up his play. he's comfortable in 3-4 & has totally bought into the system. he likes where he plays & wants to be in Miami.
would like to see Matt Roth get a shot @ the other ILB position

Torbor was a disappointment, in that game and pretty much the whole season

I'm basing my opinion on what I've been seeing from him, you see it differently.....

I didn't make up the fact that the knocks on Crowder have long been that he seldom makes a stand out play and that he has often been out of position....

If you want to view him as the second coming of Ray Lewis, that's fine;]

Not sure how Crowder can be explosive if he has always had knee issues. Don't know if he has peaked or not if those knee issue still persist.

As for Torbor, he moved from DE in college to 4-3 OLB with the Giants and now a 3-4 ILB for us. we should give him some time.

CC is a solid if unspectacular player. He's young, solid starter and team leader. I was on a KC board during free agency and they were drooling at the chance to get him. Zach spoiled us. Zach is a guy who played at a perennial pro bowl level. CC isn't Zach and can't fill his shoes. However he's a solid starter and a good run stopper.

CC isn't a future HoF'er but he's decent, young and wants to be a dolphin. I think he'll be fine for this season.

There's a whole hell of alot wrong with you pinning that game on Torbor, the primary of which being is he was not on the field much at all. The Chiefs were running a spread offense at that point, and Torbor didn't play in nickel or dime packages.

Me, our front office, every scouting service which does individual player ratings, most of this forum...

And you can tell the difference between an assigned run blitz and simply attacking the wrong gap on his own accord how?

I've said pretty clearly what I thought about him.

Torbor was a major disappointment for me personally after seeing him with the Giants over the years.

Crowder has also been a disappointment for me, but I keep comparing him to Zach which is not fair. But Crowder has to take the next step and get better.

A third round pick that has been a good starter is a disappointment?

I don't understand the outrageous standards some of you guys put on these players...

He has been average at best, he over runs plays, and does not make big plays.

But like I said, I watched Zach for many years, so maybe I'm expecting to much.

But I feel he needs to take it up a notch this year.

The defense realy suffered when he was out last yerar.Sparano even commented on that recently. He does a lot of things that go unnoticed.

Actually he is a decent blitzer too but he has had a lot of calls go against him in that respect so he may have backed off somewhat..

Maybe he needs to take acting lessons.:wink2:

Could it be because he talks trash to much?

Honest question, he has not proven himself as a star like Porter, so does his trash talking hurt him in that regard?

And he needs to cut that hair so he doesn't get held by the hair and whomped on again like he was by the fricking Patriot. That was embarrassing, sure the flag flew and he bounced off smiling, but he took a couple shots to the face.

I made the post mostly in jest.

However, It shows that Light still got the better end of the fight. If I had just gotten punched in the head I would try to play it off and smile as well.

Being skilled at taking a punch to the face is the biggest highlight of his career lol

Go to youtube and put in "Channing Crowder" and the only video you'll find with him on the field is being punched in the head.

Well in Crowder's case, there's actually good reason for it. He wasn't just your average third rounder. Many were saying that he was a possible first rounder but slid due to some bar room stuff, I believe it was.

The guy was viewed at the time as one of the possible steals of the draft. Most fans, including myself were thrilled with the pick. And it was during an era where we seldom had that feeling on draft day.

In Crowder's rookie year, all he did was give us even more reason to expect a lot from him. He looked great for a rookie and seemed poised to take his game to a high level.....we could finally line some real talent up next to Thomas, no more Morlon Greenwoods. Solid players, but don't expect much more than that types.

Problem is Crowder started to level off in his second year and over the years he just hasn't developed into the player we assumed that we had.....and it's been disappointing. Maybe that's not fair to him, but it is what it is.

I had thought that the contracts of Crowder and Scott were a little closer than they actually are. I think I confused the two with a comparison of Grove and that C from Baltimore..lol..... but anyways, the difference in those contracts shows u that Crowder is considered a guy with a few flaws in his game. The things that have held him back from developing into the guy that was supposed to make us not miss Zach when he retired. And these are things that were noticeable and brought up by the media on occasion. It wasn't beat to death, because it wasn't like he was killing us or anything.

Mainly being out of position at times and not generating TO's were the knocks on him.

Crowder hasn't had a poor career, just not the one that was expected of him.....so far. And again, I hope this coaching staff can finally get him back on track this year. He's a guy that's easy to root for.....

I truly believe that Crowder purposly didn't fight back. He got out of his grip and that was it. CHanning made him mad, and I think thats what he wanted to do.

Light only got the better of it because Crowder didn't retaliate, which is what they're told to do. Unfortunately the league is up the Patriots *** and they got equal punishment despite Crowder not throwing a punch. Can't recall another player not getting suspended after throwing three punches to a helmetless player.

I was at the game. And Crowder was waiting for him in the tunnel.

Why would expect or assume anyone would replace a 10 time pro-bowler and not make you miss him, let alone a 3rd rd pick with injury concerns.

I guess Lamar Gordon was supposed to make us not miss Ricky after he abruptly retired.

I was also thrilled with the pick. What dropped him was the concern over his knees.

I don't think he's under performed most people's expectations. He has become a very good starter for us. Everybody would like him to make more game changing plays but if you're disappointed that any 3rd round pick doesn't become a near HOF player than I would argue that your expectations may be unreasonable.

And I would also argue that one of his strengths is that he is rarely out of position. His football intelligence is what is often lauded by the coaches. I don't know how you can claim to know whether or not his job on any given play was to run blitz or fill a specific lane. Without that knowledge I don't understand how you can say he is in the wrong gap.

Maybe he just wanted to show light he didn't care, or wasn't afraid of him.

IMO, players trying to fight with all the pads etc., is stupid. They just try to show their men. But, to me the real men are the ones that just go on and do their jobs.

Crowder is a clown, but I like him. Maybe he's not a hof, but he's ours, so I'll support him and hope he steps it up some. If coach doesn't have a problem with his playing, why should I?

Channing is still a young ish player, but at the moment he is not and should not be mentioned in the same breath as Bounoconti, Duhe, Offerdahl, Cox and Zach Thomas.

In that sense Channing has been a disappointment, we have a history of All Pro ILB's, Channing has never sniffed the pro bowl even as an alternate.

I just don't think it's reasonable to expect that from a 3rd round pick. Especially in the defenses he's been in. They have focused on getting pressure from the OLB positions. That's why CC looked more impressive as a rookie when he played OLB. Since then his position and duties have changed. People are saying he plateaued but IMO he's doing what his position demands. Sparano even mentioned that sacks from the ILB in this defense are like gravy. So sure I'd like him to make some more game changing plays but with his current role in the defense it probably wouldn't be possible for even Bounoconti, Duhe, Offerdahl, Cox or Zach Thomas to sniff the probowl either. It does sound like this year we will be using more blitzes from a variety of places though.

I don't care if Mel Kiper thought that Crowder was a 1-2 round pick... you can't say "well this player was really drafted in the 3rd round, but some people put a 1st round grade on him soooo he has the same expectations as a 1st round selection." It doesn't work like that...

It goes both ways too, Darius Heyward-Bey has much higher expectations after being drafted 7th overall, even though he was an expected mid-late first round pick.

Soliai is a bit of a reach considering he has three career tackles and goose eggs across the rest of his stat line.

His lack of discipline, the same that has gotten him suspended for a couple of games makes him more likely a cut than a strong contributor in my opinion.

Maybe u should read the post again...

I also added that during his first season, he gave ppl reason to believe the hype and he looked like he was on his way to being a great player. That's why to many fans and football ppl, his career has been disappointing so far. Whether you think that's fair or not has no bearing on the reality of the situation.......this is something that's been talked about for years. Maybe some of you missed those articles/conversations.

Sparano himself has made it clear he's looking to get more out of Crowder, wanting him to step up, so I guess maybe he thinks Crowder could do more too.
