Ive been rooting for Henne to do great thing. I wasn't happy when we drafted him well wasn't thrilled but now I want him to be that guy. I know he can do great things for us and I fully believe he can make Ginn a legitimate #1 WR that playmaker this team so desperately needs on the outside.
me too other than i was glad he was still available when we got him. he was 50/50 to me on whether he would be successful but seeing him last year, i now put it at 75%. i'm kinda surprisaed to hear he's struggling since he was great last year and it seemed he was great in the mini camps. hopefully he's just pressing or some other thing. i dont think he's got the makeup of someone who will fall apart
Exactly I was pumped how well he did his rookie year I was confident if god forbid CP went down Henne could fill the spot no problem. I hope its not the dreaded Sophomore Slump.
Thats a hell of a statement from an OSU fan... Henne's going to be fine I think, its the second week of training camp. He's only in his second year, he's still learning. Im not really looking too much into these reports right now, some say he's doing well, making great throws, making plays, some say he's struggling... Who knows what to believe. I'll wait until August 17 against Jacksonville and start to form an opinion then, clearly he's going to get alot of playing time then
they said he continued to struggle in 2 minute drills. hes not struggling anywhere else. hes going to be fine.
I don't think it's anything to worry about at this point. If you read the article, you'll notice that (per the article) Henne is doing fine with making the throws and play action. The area that he's been struggling with is the two minute drill. To me that just says the game still hasn't entirely slowed down for him yet. No surprise. This is only his second year - and it's just now starting. Typically there's that 3 year learning curve. IMO fans who want to push Pennington out the door so soon are just being impatient. We need to give Henne time to develop. And hope that Pennington can stay healthy until then.
Henne being the 'quarterback of the future' is a little bit of a reach to me at this stage. The chances of him being a Pro Bowl QB are still slim, regardless how good or bad he looks in camp. The fact of the matter is, finding a great QB is not an easy task. I sure hope he turns out to be a franchise QB, but I would still put it as a 75-25 proposition.
JMO but I think its quite revealing that this thread is also about our rookie 5th rd. pick doing well yet everyone seems to think the thread was geared towards Henne not doing good. Yet at the end I stated "If True" concerning his preformance. BTW I truly believe Chris Clemons will be our Stand out Rook this year (as OL Thomas almost was last year) and be a starter before the season is half over. Thoughts?
over who? i just dont see it with the amount of money the FO gave those 2 guys that Clemons will be able to leap frog them unless of injury and serious bad play from them.
Seems to me Tony's line of "The best guy plays" doesn't say anything about money otherwise the bust WR we gave a bundle to last year (which means we still can't cut him without a BIG hit) would have started all 16 games and have 8 or 9 TD's, right? I would hope that Tony cares more about winning than making Jeff feel better even though he knows he blew it on that one! See BAD PLAY
I don't think we can expect bad play from Wilson or Bell this year. Definitely nothing that will let Clemons leapfrog them on the depth chart. I'm sure we will some formations with 3 safetys though...
really like Clemons said from his draft day until now: the guy is going to be a serious addition & special edition Wilson & Bell have competion from day one with this rookie. we are very solid in the defensive backfield going into 2009
I agree with that. He looks good even before the article. There is a chance he could be really special.
Chris Clemons could be a really good player for us. He knows our defenese, Quarters, because he played it in college, so he should have a pretty good grasp of the playbook. He should fit in just right with Miami.
the guy has tremendous speed, excellent hands & hits on par with Bell & Wilson he is the total package, lacking only NFL experience I predict big things in the near future for this kid
One thing I love is speed. When you have both speed with being a football player, you have a good player on your hands.
Actually, Quarters merely a coverage shell. Clemson rolls with a four man front, so what Clemons has to watch for is going to be just slightly different from what he's used to. Combine that with the hyper-speed that the game appears to be from a rookie's perspective and I think we're going to have to wait a year before he really shows what he's made of. That said, he's been exceptional this off-season and I can't wait for more.
This guy has worked hard and had it hard his whole life. I thought when we drafted him that he will be a starter in 2 years and i still think so. And As I've said so many times that people are getting sick of it, he was "free' due the the balls of our front office. By trading back with the Colts, we still got Sean Smith and then Clemons on the 5th they gave us to move up five spots to take Fili Moala (DT). There is no way I could have done that. I'm sure we knew who the Colts wanted, but we had to sit though the Ravens, Patriots, Panthers and Giants before we could take Sean Smith. These teams are fairly good at this draft thing. I can't believe that done of them were looking at Sean Smith. OK, the Ravens take Paul Kruger. Fair enough on that choice. Let's see who the other three take. The Patriots take a "intriguing developmental prospect" in a German TE turned OL named Sebastian Vollmer. His HS was Quirinus Gymnasium...... The Giants.. The former Husky surprisingly falls to the Giants in the second round. Though the team doesn't have an immediate need at the position, William Beatty gives the Giants a young, athletic offensive tackle prospect to develop for the future. Well, maybe done of these teams had a need for a tall, fast Corner/Safety.... The Panthers take Sherrod Martin (S) The Panthers nab a safety with corner-like size and skills. Martin is a tough, hard-nosed player with the movement skills to excel outside in the right scheme. With the Panthers looking for a big corner(6'1") to add to their sub-package, Martin should get on the field early and often as a rookie. The other amazing part of this too me is that Chris Clemons lasts until very late in the 5th round. Not only is he the fastest Safety at the combine But he averaged over a 100 tackles a year for 3 years at Clemson. And this is the same draft where the Raiders reach in the 2nd round for Safety Mike Mitchell (The Raiders continue to place a premium on speed and athleticism over production. Although Mitchell was regarded as a second day pick in most war rooms, the Raiders nab the workout warrior with their second-round choice). Are we good or is everyone else just slow compared to us? I like to think that our front office is good.

How again was it a reach when it has been shown that the Bears were looking to draft him with their 2nd rd pick? And he averaged 60+ tackles over the past three seasons. So it's not like he wasn't productive, just not as productive. CFB production isn't everything either, btw. Lots of CBs drafted after Sean Smith were "more productive" than he was during their college careers.
