What is new with the Ronnie Brown extension talks, if anything?

I think it is important that we resign Ronnie Brown before the season. First if we sign him before the season it is just one less thing for Ronnie Brown and the staff to worry about. Second if we dont sign him before the season and he has a probowl year he is going to be the number 1 free agent out there and he is going to want more money and I dont think Bill Parcells is going to out bid a lot of people. Third he is great at running the wildcat you cant just toss any running back in there and they will pick it up. Lastly if we dont give him an extension before seasons end I have a feeling that it is going to bite us in the butt. Like maybe the Pats throwing a bunch of money at him. ( I hope that does not happen).

    So any updates?

    Extention talks?

    A) Front Office knows & is current on everything Ronnie Brown. Obviously, they are not convinced he is that Franchise Back worth the big contract @ this point. Ronnie has to finally have the complete, elite season if he wants to be respected as one of the top five elite RB's in the NFL & be compensated accordingly.
    B) the next draft:

    1 Andre Anderson TUL
    2 James Starks BUFF
    3 Jahvid Best CAL
    4 LeGarrette Blount ORE
    5 Jacquizz Rodgers ORST
    6 Eugene Jarvis KENT
    7 Kendall Hunter OKST
    8 Bryce Beall HOU
    9 Damion Fletcher SMISS
    10 John Clay WIS

& free agency (in-house dispute/problems between Al Davis & McFadden) could possibly shake him lose for the Dolphins. we've already capitalized on two of their unhappy but very talented players. [/I]

through the Draft or FreeAgency we might replace a very good, over priced RB with a much better over-all deal

    C) I wonder how Ricky Williams is coming along & what his performance will be this year? This could impact Browns contract too. If Ricky returns to form, he is the man. If he's lost a step & just does very well, he can still carry the team. as a Tandem Williams & Brown are amongst the best in the NFL today & will carry our running game to opponents throughout the NFL this year. no problems in our RB stable in 2009.
    E) the WildCat/SingleWing offense is based on the run. any good RB will flourish in the system. the same cannot be said about QB's, that's why we drafted Pat White.

anything can happen, I'm focusing on the 2009 season & the RB stable is one of the best in the NFL today. should have a great year running behind the reconstructed & much improved Orca-5.

maybe its a good thing that he doesn't get signed before the season. Then he will be in a contract year, and he may give 200% and light up the league instead of the usual 100% and 600 yards.

The Pats would never over pay for him,Guess our front office is seeing something else in our other Rb's you just never know.

They also dont have a good running back. Laurence Maroney is always hurt and struggles some. So if Ronnie Brown comes off an other Probowl year this year and decides to test the market dont be suprised if the Pats pick him up. Think they would have the rb that made the wildcat a big deal in the NFL they could run it with no problem. They might not over pay him but they might out bid us.

1)the Patriots won't pay big money for a RB, would be totally out of character
but another Franchise might step up, if they really need one & he proves himself a top five (elite) RB.
    2) the WildCat/SingleWing is essentially a system of play created to extract the best out of the running game. any good RB will excel in it. the problem is with the QB, that's why we picked up White. to use the system to its greatest advantage you need a QB that is a running back. You have to throw & run @ QB to keep the defense honest, only then does it become a legitimate system in the NFL & cease to be a gadget play.
I wish Ronnie well & know that the Tandem will be a powerhouse running behind the Orca-5 this year.

i kept my answer short because i didnt wanna start another debate on how i feel towards ronnie brown, the last one had 300 posts of frustrating and fun debate. you should go thru it if you havent read it..

Anyways , yes i think they will sign him, because he is an elite talent where all the variables set up for him to have an mvp type season and he just fits perfectly for what it is were trying to do here.

And noone can run the wildcat from a power running formation like ronnie brown, ive studied every run and i seee things in his game that seem like he was born to play that position.

I think we need him. Ricky has 2 years left according to him, and Cobbs isnt a 1st string back in the NFL with what he's shown so far.

Ronnie is a proven #1 back though and he fits great with our system..........But he wasnt drafted by Parcells so.........

    Love Ronnie Brown!!!!!!!!

For the good of the team I would trade him for Brandon Marshall and let Cobbs and Ricky have the back field

Because Ricky and Cobbs can handle the load. A trade for Marshall who is a proven receiver just made the up and coming receiving corp that much better. Marshall on this team with just last years guys would be a huge improvement. Ginn a good #2 would improve, Bess and Camirillo would also be instantly up graded.

I love Ronnie but, he has not proven he is worthy of another 5 or 6 year contract at the money he is gonna want. I love Ronnie and would hate to see him go but I want to win a super bowl not just the division!!!!!

Im pretty sure I made my point. My emotions don't come into play for this hypothetical instance. There is just no way I would trade RB for Marshall and leave the backfield solely in the hands of Ricky (who gets hurt alot) and Cobbs. Besides, Marshall has troubles of his own.

your point was I am not Jeff Ireland?????

That is obvious. Dude what are you talking about???? Every single post on here is hypothetical and someone's opinion???? That's fair...you wouldn't trade Ronnie for Brandon Marshall. Your reason is because Ricky gets hurt a lot....when has this happened.....surely you cant be referring to the broken arm and torn pec muscle..........you really don't expect him to play that way do you???

Sometimes a change of scenery will do a player good......and I can assure you Marshall wouldn't come here and Buck up on the Tuna!!!!

Brandon Marshall would make this team an instant contender!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darrren McFadden? I dont think Darren McFadden is all that good.

Darren McFadden played in 13 games last year and had.

    Darren McFadden

    CAR 113 YDS 499 AVG 4.4 TDS 4

    That is not that good.

Jonathan Stewart played 16 games last year and had

    CAR 184 YDS 836 AVG 4.5 TDS 10

    Both rookies

    Ronnie Brown 214 carries 916 yards 4.3 avg 10 TD's

Pretty much on the same level as Stewart. In fact if Stewart would have had the same # of carries he would have gained more:wink2:

I can't see this FO paying the big money for Brown or any RB...

These days that position is just too easily fielded...

Brown has never quite made it to the top tier of RB's to this point and has a had a few injuries.

Hope him and his agent keep that in mind when they are negotiating that new contract

I want to tell you some thing about wide recivers sure there are great ones out there but you can find a good wide reciver any where. Greg Camarillo no one had ever heard of him and now he is a number 2 wr. I think if he did not get hurt last year I think he would have been a probowler or close to being one.

Brandon Marshall? Did you just miss the big fued between him and Joey Porter last year? That would be a distraction in it self for a young team. Plus that is not counting the times Brandon Marshall has been arested.

Who ever said Ronnie Brown wanted big money? No one ever said he wanted to be the highest paid runningback in the NFL. He just is not that type of guy. Patrick Cobbs and Ricky Williams? I love them both but they could not carry the load. Patrick Cobbs from what he had shown us he is not an everydown back and he just does not have that kind of talent. Ricky Williams is old. I dont care if you say he was out of the game for 2 years his body is getting old and his body just is not going to be able to take the beating the way it use to.

If you remeber last year they were kind of just easing Ronnie Brown into the NFL. He was not getting a lot of carries a game and he shared the load with two other backs. I think this year he will get more carries.

I don't know. It really depends on what they do with the wildcat. I think Ronnie is better off splitting the load....it keeps him fresher thru out the season. I wonder what his numbers would be like if he was a featured back. He hasn't really had that opportunity except the year he got hurt and I believe he was on pace for about 1500.

I think Sparano and Co. will keep the defenses guesssing with the cat and will even take things further then they did with different personal packages and some play's we haven't seen. Either way Ronnie is our back and I am happy for the time being having him here. Ronnie definately makes us a better team. Weather or not Sparano and Co. is gonna pay him what he will want next year is another story.

    For now .....GOOOOOOOOO Ronnie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I didn't miss the trash talking....part of the game. bet you money if Joey saw him out they'd do a shot and be buddies. Cobb's doesn't have to be an every down back, he'd split the load. Ricky has still got it......I think he could carry us....for how long is another story. RB's are a dime a dozen now a days. Ronnie will command top 5 salary. If Sparano and Co. give it to them they should have their heads examined. Ronnie's good but, he is still unproven, and not worthy of that type of money. I am not saying that this is necessarily his fault, just happens to be the case due to current circumstances and past seasons developments. I don't think Ronnie will stick around for long if he can't get "paid" now at this point in his career. It's now or never for him.

I have a good feeling about Ronnie this year. Not only has our line been upgraded, they have also had an extra year of experience together. You can especially tell with Jake and Justin (from training camp). Aside from our better O-line, Ronnie is still young, and his career carries are just over 700.

If things don't work out with Ronnie, like any other player/position on our team, our FO will fix it. Like someone pointed out, Parcells likes to get quality out of running backs in later draft round picks.

Ronnie is in his prime. Players are in their prime between the ages of 27-29. Ronnie will be 28 in December. This is his opportunity to get paid what he will surely believe he is due. He is outside the 18 month knee surgery/recovery window so the knee will not play a factor.

I am not reading this anywhere it is my opinion....he gets paid or he will go elsewhere....guarantee their are a lot of teams in the NFL that could use a back as talented as Ronnie Brown

Let's just hope Sparano and Co feel the same way

How do you know how much money he is going to want? He seems like a team player to me, he got his first contract cause of where he was drafted. We already know rookies make too much money coming into the league unproven. That's not his fault. I don't feel he is going to want top dollar to stay here.

I love Ronnie Brown, my favorite player on this team. But he has yet to step out and prove in a 16 game season that he is the elite back we all think he is. I will put my trust in Ireland and Parcells to do the right thing about his contract. If he stays GREAT, if they let him walk, they will have a plan and it will likely work. I would miss him, but IMO the running game is more to do with the OL than it is with the "elite" running back. Don't get me wrong, the RB is important, I just feel the OL is MORE important.

Just for reference despite Brown holding out his rookie year his contract was considered subpar for his slot. However, he will go for the team that shows the money......this is a business after all. My money is on a high draft pick at RB next year, franchise Brown and regardless of what happens Ricky is most likely gone. Only way I see Brown getting his extension is on a injury free year and he tears it up.

I doubt they pick a RB high in the draft next year. Parcells isn't known for taking running backs high, in fact I think it was mentioned before that he likes to get mid to late round running backs that work for him and his system. Or in this case Sparano's system.

I think our high draft picks will be spent on Linebackers next year.
