I've been thinking about this for a very long time, and I've come to the conclusion that we should go our separate ways. I thought I loved you and it would last forever, but I was so very wrong.

I know that our relationship has lasted 50 years and that we should fight to stay together, but you've changed so much that, frankly, I don't know who you are anymore! When we first met, I was young and rather naive, and I loved you unconditionally. I spent years running with abandon across your sandy beaches in the bright sunshine, playing in your beautiful parks and attending your top-rated schools, which were a national model for the other states. For 18 years or so, I can honestly say that I was truly in love with you, but then came your first major transgression: Proposition 13.

This lady hit the nail on the head

Oh Cali, you have always been the hot Silicon injected Mistress to me.

Loads of fun, and always new conquests to be had. Loved every single time I have been there except for that one terrible year I actually lived there :pity:

right on! i moved from california 3 1/2 years ago. i lived there for 59 years and when i started paying $700 a year for the tags on my truck i started thinking getting out. the tags on my truck here in arkansas were $23.75 and unless you get out in the rural areas, the roads are better. i got sick of california and what you had to pay to live there. the natives were ok, but the transplants all came out there expecting california to support them. the illegal problem is 10 times greater there than what it is here. didn't know where we wanted to move to, but when my son moved out here, because of his wife, it was a logical choice, the wife wanted to be around her grandkids. i have to deal with poison oak and ticks out here but i treat them pretty much the same way i did with the morons out there, i avoid them. good luck and tell me where you moved to!

well some of the mexicans i talked to out there said they thought that california should be given back to mexico, well as long as i lived there, they had done such a fine job governing tiajuana, i wanted them to wait a little longer. now i'm gone, california is having financial problems, let the president of mexico have the headaches.

I understand the cost of living difference out there but I'd invite her to come down to the south with me and let her walk outside and within 10 seconds start sweating her *** off from the humidity only to find that there is no ocean to go cool off in before she makes any final decisions. Oh, and when you stop sweating for a few weeks you freeze your *** off in the winter. We get the best of both worlds in TN.

we don't have an ocean here but we have a lake about a half mile away, and guess what, you don't have to worry about sharks. as far as freezing in the winter, i think its great. it makes it seem like the holidays. electricity is cheaper out here so running the A/C is no problem. plus in the winter you don't have to mow the yard all the time and that is a lot of work. never had more than a quarter acre in california, here i have 3 acres.

even better, i'm retired so if the weather doesn't agree with me, i don't have to go out in it.

Yard work is against my religion. So I'm fine with not having land. Shark attacks are pretty rare. I don't mind taking my chances. But I envy your retirement. Being able to choose what to do is definitely the best way to go about it. Enjoy it.

Btw, I'm from and live in Memphis. Do you live close?

California's economy is in the absolute crapper. Other than that I really don't have any other complaints. The nice thing about hot weather in the summer is all the hotties come out wearing practically nothing.

the prettiest sunsets i have ever seen were in hawaii. the lack of smog there lets all the color come thru. its a beautiful place to visit but i sure as hell wouldn't live there. the cost of living is a killer, you pay for those friggin sunsets.

We have spectacular sunsets, and Dungeness and King crab...and believe it or not, a local outfit called Shoofly Pie a few blocks from my house, and they make authentic key lime pie. Damn good, too.

I do love the Keys, though. One of the few things I do still miss after 14 years...and stone crab. :shifty: There's simply nothing like it.

i lived on the beach, in ventura. i hated it. the friggin sand got everywhere, it would stick to your feet and at night when you go to bed it was like sleeping on emery cloth. in the winters, you always had the fog, a real wet fog.

one thing i do miss is getting together with a bunch and head to the beach at night and go "grunion" hunting. to explain to everybody what that is, its a fish that only lays its eggs in so cal. they come up at high tide and lay their eggs in the sand and go out with the ebbtide. most people don't believe it. they kinda figure its like "snipe" hunting" my wife is from indiana and she never believed it until i caught one, you can only use your hands.

The good ole grunion run. Aint nothing better then living in Cali. The beach, the mountains, the woman, the nightlife, the weather, the taxes. Wouldnt want it any other way. I would be bored to death anywhere else. Been to florida cant stand the humidity and rain, been to Seattle it rains every freakin day, been to New York and well to me its to dirty to live there , anywhere else is land locked. I love my cali. born and raised. It way over crowded anyways so the more that leave the better IMO.

I'll deal with a Earthquake once every 5yrs then deal with a Hurricane or Tornado 5x a year every freakin year. I grew up with Earthquakes so im not scared of them and I react pretty quick. I had a co worker scared to sh!t when he felt a earthquake for the first time. He went back to Philly shortly after.

never had a tornado come through rogers arkansas. besides you have time, with a weather radio, to seek shelter, where do you hide from an earthquake, i put up with earthquakes a lot longer than you have, i was born in california and lived there til i was 60, never was at peace with the big ones. and mark my words, another big one is comin. had one in south america last month, had one in mexico this month. they work their way north.

I have been here since 1982. I would say I more worried about the damage the politicians have done, and will continue to do to this state, then the damage mother nature has and could cause.

The best sunsets I've ever seen are in South Carolina's low country and the Savannah GA area. All the rivers that open into the ocean reflect the sunset, and gives it a gorgeous deep red. Now, I live in Tennessee, and haven't seen one that compared yet.

    -I miss South Carolina.

I totally agree with you. With the condition our state is in politically, mother nature can only do us a favor. Yes we have wildfires and the occasional earthquake, but we have bad politicians everyday. The way this state is being run has alot to do with the reason businesses and native Californians are moving to other states and countries. I myself have been self employed in the state of California for many years, and the taxes in this state are absolutlely ridiculous. It cost $700.00 a year to tag a new pickup in this state, and I can go to other states and tag it for 2 years for less than $75.00!! and that is just the beginning...
