http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/content/sports/epaper/2009/08/20/0820dolphins_williams.html Interesting that they watched C Williams the same way they watched D Bess, they knew (or thought) he would be a UDFA and they outhustled 3 other teams for his services. Williams, believe it or not, is not just a returner, he led the nation in receptions and yards in 2006, I bet we see a slant to him this preseason to see if he can take a pass to the house..
We picked this guy up in April ?? where have I been, I don't remember him being mentioned all thru the preseason, up to and including TC up to last Monday ?? I couldn't believe how smooth he was in the return game...
He's been mentioned in OTAs and in TC. He has gotten behind a few DBs for some long TDs. Although he was seen as such a long shot that nobody got excited by it. Up until recently the thought was that at best he might make the practice squad. I think there was also some discussion about how his speed compared to Ginn's.
I'd love to see him in an end around in the Panther's game, also want to see him get thrown a few passes, see what he does with them. What's not to like about this young kid. He's damn near as short as I am, apparently he has a huge heart though.
I was very, very impressed with him in the Jax game. His speed was obvious, but that wasn't what was most impressive to me. It was how quickly he was off and running upfield once he had found a seam. He caught the ball... slight hesitation... finds an opening... and (insert John Madden 'BOOM')... he's rocketing upfield. Very, very impressive for someone who was obviously jittery in his first NFL action. I cant wait to see him when he calms down. I'm fairly confident that kid will take one to the house this preseason, and by doing so, he'll become an overnight sensation as a returner to us fans. If he continues to do what he did last Monday night... there's no way we keep less than 6 WRs, and there's no way he's not one of them.
@ 5'8" 175lbs, better be really fast to survive the NFL hope to see him get some time @ WR in today's game this year's Devonne Bess? I like it. seeing some life out of Hilliard & Jason Allen this year
I love this kid and how fluent he was in the return game.....reminds me MUCHO of a kid the Cheifs gave a chance to about a decade ago Many of us have been mentioning during the off-season that the FO is shoring up the Special Teams in. Big way, and I think this kid fits that bill So what if he is nothing more than a return specialist, I honestly think he would pay huge dividens in field position and how other teams prepare for our special teams unit... BTW: Rio Rancho is a small suburb to the North-West of Albuquerque, and last time I was in the know, was I believe a 3-a school. If you aren't big enough to make a 3a high school team in New Mexico, you are REALLY small
Let's not get too stoked up with Williams yet, remember he did make a boneheaded play placing Miami on the one yard line. I am not so sure Miami will keep 6 Wide receivers but isn't amazing Miami has some great talent in this position and chances are so good players will be cut. I am pulling for Williams now the rest is up to him.
Tonight is huge for Chris Williams, if he picks up where he left off on Monday he will have a great chance to make the team, Sparano sort of lied to the media when he said he would not keep a Special Teams only player, but C Williams has said point blank that Sparano was going to give him a shot returning kicks first and foremost. Sparano himself said if Williams excels he will keep him. A good night for Williams and then they will put him into the 2nd half offense and chances for London and Armstrong will shrink.
He high jumped 6' 11" ?!?!?!?!?!? Holy Crap! This guy can obviously play way bigger than 5-7 170, which I think is his true measures.
So he F'd up... he's a rookie. Pre-season is for learning. He may not make the team, but that stuff happens to a lot of returners. He was caught looking at the defender. I hope they give him another chance.
He did get rocked on a couple of returns tonight... He's a lot like Lorenzo Booker, when he makes someone miss it's great.. but when he runs into a brick wall, he's going to hurt himself.
Doctor checked him out and noticed he had two ***-es... the one he started the game with and another one Sparano tore him after that facemask vs football incident.
I really don't like this kid as a punt returner. His misques scare the living crap out of me. I almost guarantee he will cost us a game we should win if he stays on punts. On the other hand I love his kick return skills. Is a roster spot worth a kick returner though?
If it meant a Devin Hester or Josh Cribbs, without question. Heck even if he does what he did last week, minus the bad plays. If you consistently start around the 40 and maybe break a couple, no doubt about it.
Very true, but the question has to be is he that good? I'm not sure I see that type of explosion in him.
They should make everything he does come from the punt position. Meaning when they break for lunch, his food should be launched into the air ala a punt and he only eats what he catches. When he gets dressed in the morning, launched into the air and he can only wear what he catches. And when he has to poop...well, maybe we'll let him do the traditional thing for that, but you get my point.
We have to figure out a way to keep Hilliard...period. I'd sacrifice one of the WR spots for him if we had to...try to put Williams on the practice squad and let London walk if necessary. I like London but I'd rather keep Hilliard.
