Around the league, some of the teams have been blacked out. All these teams have more wins than the Dolphins. How is that? When I watch the games on TV, the stadium looks bare. When I have gone to games, it has been similar. How does it work, exactly?
Well, I know that sometimes it is worth it to the local television stations to purchase the remaining seats needed to lift the blackout, because they stand to make more money than the cost of the seasts in their local advertising during the game. I don't know what kind of discount that they recieve or anything, I just know that it's happened before. Keep in mind that the entire lower bowl is always sold out due to season ticket holders. If anyone else knows anything more, feel free.....
Do they try and move these tickets at a lower price or anything? You have to sell out a couple days before the game, so there would still be people looking to buy.
Individual tickets stay the same price. Behind closed doors, there is probably a monster discount on the bulk seats sold to the TV station. I think they can place any price on the seats that they would like. It's the teams money that is being lost if they are not sold. I wouldn't see a reason why the NFL would stop the teams from selling tickets cheap. The gate receipt goes to the owner. The TV contract is shared money.
