Perhaps MS could create "XBOX 7" kinda like what they did to Windows Vista.

As a huge fan of the 360 I wish I could say those numbers are way off..... But I cant. On the upside you have a 3 year RROD warranty direct from MS so at least you are protected.

If it didn't have such great games it would be the worst console of the 3.

I've lost one system to the dreaded RROD earlier this year ... I too thought I was immune from it. Apparently that is not the case.

Very true that means a lot, but I've known people where MS will try everything in their power to say your problem isn't RROD and want you to pay. Still in the end they have always fixed the problem since it was in warranty and as a result the 3 year warranty is great.

Sony I believe this report said had around a 10% failure rate and that's probably about right as I know about 3 people on here have had their PS3 fail on them. However the old 60GB and 20GB models I have read on the PlayStation forums are starting to be frequently getting the YLOD and Sony is basically ignoring the problem. So kudos to MS for addressing the problem and giving a warranty a lot better than the 1 year that Sony offers.

i loved my XBox before mine failed. repeatally. it froze so many times i couldnt even begin to think about how many times really. then the RROD came..i NEVER had problems even close to that with my ps2(was always a playstation guy), sold my xbox after it got back from warranty, bought a ps3, its froze less then 10 times and ive had it for a long time now. no problems what so ever. Xbox failure rate is ridiculous. after i bought mine, before i was having problems, i convinced a friend to buy one, when we turned it on, it was already the RROD(bought brand new from best buy), we take it back. after only a day another RROD. he went through 3 xboxs before he got out of his return policy with best buy. then he went through another one after that. then he did exactly what i did, sold the POS and bought a ps3. since he had so many problems back to back to back, thats exactly what convinced me, first sign of trouble im gone. to much **** to put up with.

That's a terrible failure rate. I hope my Xbox doesn't fail because my PS3 already did. Sucks because I had a 60GB with all the good backwards compatibility and everything. The new one is a lot quieter though and the hard drive is huge so it worked out alright. It was covered by a warranty I bought too. Good thing.

you guys think the backwards compatability is faulty and perhaps why Sony has phased it out?

I bought a Jasper MB console and it has run very, very cool compared to my old one (which have now dubbed the 'crapbox' and its the one I use for testing out games or just screwing around for a few hours).

The 'crapbox' has been repaired once but has been running OK ever since and still going strong after what must be now well over 100 hours of play (since I send my kids to play on that one and not my main).

If it didn't have the RROD problem, Sony would have already closed it's playstation division.

I don't know Pete he might be on to something because it seems like the YLOD affects mostly the first models, the 60GB and 20GB. I know the Playstation Forums has two threads on people who are YLOD victims and an overwhelming amount are 60GB and 20GB owners with a few 80GB BC mixed in and just a couple newer 40GB.

I just found it weird that when he said that it sort of does make sense.

Ah ha here is that YLOD victim thread on the Playstation forums:
    http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=3629439

Nah I just think he likes to stir things up to get a fanboy war started, which he can set back and watch. :wink2:

Although I admit I prefer the PS3 and support it over the 360. I own both and just prefer the PS3, both are great systems but the PS3 gets my vote.

Also with everyone who had a PS3 fail what happened? My laser died on me.

The 360 is winning this generation, if judged by console sales and software attachment rate...yes or no? Especially up to this point it has been. The slim is a good start in making up ground because of the price point.

The 360 has done a ton of damage to sony's PS division while carrying a 54% failure rate...

    Is that a lie?

Imagine how many more 360's they would have sold if people didn't have the RROD to fear them into buying a ps3?

If it's easier to call me a fanboy, then fine...but I own and use all 3 consoles.

I think they have, at least largley. The ones that were failing badly were the early ones, and they failed at much higher then a 54% would be my guess. The newer ones have a much lower rate I would think.

You are basically sayng that the RROD "feared" people in buying a PS3 and if M$ did not put out a crappy product then PS3 would have been dead. I totally disagree.

Is M$ winning this generation? Well, they are a healthy 2nd. They got the jump and they had a lower entry price. The mistake that Sony made from the start was not having a stripped down, cheap entry model. The price arguement was always bunk for me anyway. The game library and system exclusives are pretty much even now.

Doesn't matter to me, I'm a Sony fan boy...LOL! M$ is not getting anymore of my money and I hate the XBOX controller.

    What!?

Aside from the d-pad, the 360 controller is the best one I have ever put my hands on.

agreed. I have sizable hands (i can palm a basket ball with ease) and the PS3/2/1 controller have long gone outdated. The Dual analogs in the moddle makes for horrible hand posture. The d-pad on the 360 controller really is a bummer. Besides that, it's perfect imo

I can palm a basketball, but not with ease (If I try moving it around I lose it). I even liked the "big" original xbox controllers (how they felt, functionally the 360 ones are much better).

I agree. It just feels weird being so light. I have both and I hate using the sixaxis now. We tend to equate more weight with higher quality I guess. The rumble is better so I guess it's not crazy.

I must be one of the lucky ones then. I have an "original" 360, bought it when it first came out over here in the UK, well as soon as I could get my hands on one.
Granted it doesn't get much usage, maybe that's why it hasn't RROD on me. :)
To illustrate how little usage it gets, my gamer points are at 5690 and I've had the console for over 3.5 years. I went over 2 years without getting a single gamer point, that's pretty impressive. :)
