My husband and I are Season Ticket holders, native Miamian’s since 1955 and 1957 respectively, and supporters of the Dolphins from day one! We feel what Mr. Ross is doing with the team is ridiculous. The fans go to the games to cheer on and support the TEAM and most are disgruntled with the onslaught of a sudden need for all this glitz and glamour by bringing on celebrities as limited partners. Is that really necessary?!? The Dolphins never have, and never will, need "Star Power" to attract fans. It appears, this horrendous transition occurring at the hands of Donald Ross, is only to cater to the “Rich, Famous, and Affluent” crowd, not to attract a younger crowd as was recently mentioned. The "TRUE DOLPHIN FAN" doesn’t care what celebrity is being brought on board, and what “perks” are going to be available to those who can afford Club Level seats or suites. The “TRUE DOLPHIN FAN” is there for the TEAM, no matter what, parked outside the stadium waiting for the gates to open so they can start tailgating and basking in the electrified atmosphere prior to kick off; then anxiously entering the stadium to sit in the blazing sun in the middle of a hot afternoon, or in the pouring rain, to cheer on the Dolphins like nobody’s business!! Bring back the old Dolphin song, as corny as it may be, and quit force feeding us Jimmy Buffet's song. At the first 2009 pre-season game, the rap version of the Dolphin song was played a couple times, and after the echo of BOO's died down, the Buffet song played relentlessly!!! It was absolute torture, Sorry, but “Fins to the left and fins to the right,” sounds even cornier than the original song. Don’t get me wrong, I truly like Jimmy Buffet’s songs, but, in my opinion, they’re just not suitable for the football game. Please, please, bring back the mix of music we enjoyed last season…both old & new rock and hip-hop, peppered with some new stuff, so the FANS can be truly be able to bask in the glory of a touchdown, a field goal, a great run, a great sack, and/or a GREAT WIN!! That’s all we need….no more, no less.

I have to admit this preseason game I went to against Carolina was much more of an "experience" than either of the two previous games I had attended and one was a playoff matchup. I have no problem with him making gameday more enjoyable, and these celebs get 1% if that of the franchise. It's really a non issue to me but I can understand why some people won't like it.

even though us normal folks cant enjoy or afford the new perks....and dont care for these celebs being brought onboard.....we do have to realize the people that can afford it.......if they are spending money.....it makes the dolphins more money....and it ultimatley will help the team on the field.....and as a fan....you gotta be happy for that imo

Caw, a week ago I agreed with you. Today I don't.

Ross paid ONE BILLION dollars to own this franchise. Wayne wanted to dump the team and Ross put up the cash to buy the franchise.

As long as our players are in camp on time and he kisses Parcells ***, I don't care if Toonces the Flying Cat is singing the Dolphin theme song.

We forget the fact that the guy put up big money to purchase the team. The sky isn't falling and we will still get to enjoy games at JRS. Maybe it attracts more star power or opens up this wonderful game to people that haven't been to engaged to the product. Who know??

    Live from the Internet.
    exactly.
he can bring in a millions owners.
as long as they dont touch the football aspect of it, and if he wants to do that, good for him. the 'owners' get 1%< so its okay in my book, now with the song, he was just trying to come up with something new, just like in the interview he said, people used to ***** and moan about the old song, UNtIL the tpain version came out, now everybody loves it. like he said, its the preseason. i was at both games, and i enjoyed the game and 'experience'

I don't see how celebrity ownership is a bad thing. I do agree that those new songs suck though. I'm sure Ross will make adjustments as things progress. Keep in mind that this is his first season owning the team, lets give him a year or two before passing judgment.

    Welcome aboard CAW!!

JRS will ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS be JRS to me.
As much as Robbie annoyed the hell out of me with the extended camp holdouts, the man built JRS and his name will always be attached the stadium.

don't get me wrong, i absolutely love the game day experience, with the exception of the perception, at least for me, of being force fed Jimmy Buffet's song, that played relentlessly, and I too was at both games, till the last second clicked off the clock. Guess I'm just a little tired of hearing about a new celeb coming on board every time I turn around, cuz I could really care less. It's a bit of a drastic change for me...I guess I'm just old school, about some things.

It's all good CAW. I was deeply upset about these changes as well, but then again I'm also old school and use the past as my guide towards the future.

Sometimes you have to accept these things about yourself and realize that old way isn't the only way. At the end of the day does it really matter if Venus Wiliams and Marc Anthony own a percentage of the team? Does it matter any more or less than a non high profile individual that owns part of the team?

As long as they don't turn in the Miami Heat DJ show, I think the product on the field will remain enjoyable. Heck we have the Wildcat, the Wildpat and an innovative and successful, cutting edge coaching staff that has had a transformative effect on this franchise not felt since Marino was a young gunslinger.. Why not rattle things up at the stadium? BTW, all of us in here have complained about the lack of energy at JRS.. What's the worse thing that could happen? A little more energy at the expense of a some silly songs?

If we fill the stadium with more of our fans than Jets fans and Parcells stays as VP, Stepen Ross can do whatever he pleases with the team.

From what I have heard from Ross....they are trying things out in the Pre Season. What they are trying to do...is start some new traditions...like a particular song played between Qtr 3 and Qtr 4. The songs you have heard arent set in stone..and they even mentioned having some other variations of the Phins fight song.

These guys are really sharp...they put the right people in place to try and test these things to get an accurate idea of how to enrich the overall experience of the game, and to sell seats. Thats the bottom line, the more butts in the seats, the more succesful the franchise.

It will take some time..but we have to be careful about being to comfortable about relying on the past...hell we may even have new unis sometime after 2010. Be patient, I think this organization is working on putting together a first class football operation in every sense of the word.

#1...he is hands off in regards to the product on the field. He is letting the people that KNOW football handle football decisions. THAT IS A GREAT THING.

#2...the changes he is making in terms of the stadium, fans interaction, new website, and (sadly) the entertainment aspect in terms of celebrity are being done to enhance the overall product (both during the game and away from the game) that takes place off the field. Do I agree with all the changes? NO. I mean come on...all the ownership stuff is a joke. However, it might bring a little more attention from the latino fans, the female demo, or the urban market in terms of attendance and product sales. So, in terms of the bottom line it might help...as far as them being "owners", please.

Overall I would give him a "B" for the changes. Sure the songs are bad, and I am a Parrotthead, but so were a lot of the songs they played at the games. Here is hoping he also gets rid of that stupid "DAY-O" chant. I am sure that just gets the team fired up everytime they hear the crowd go all Harry Belefonte screaming DAY-O! LMAO!

Definately! Big change in music selection from last season. I hope Parcell's stays around for a while longer and doesn't take off anytime soon. He and Sparano are some of the best changes the Dolphins have had in quite a while...by the way, female here, and an avid sports fan. Husband is very happy about that!!

I have no real complaints about the new ownership. My main criteria is that he stay away from the football side and that he not be cheap when asked to shell out signing bonuses and such by Parcells and Ireland.

My next issue is that they figure out a way to get the fans closer once the Marlins are gone and he is reportedly doing that.

The celebrity owners don't bother me.

I'm not a fan of the T-pain song version. The Buffet song has been played for years so that really isn't anything new. Maybe they're playing it more often now but for at least a few years while WH was the owner (before I moved away) it was played at least once per game.

    Man...I gotta tell you...

I went to the Pats Phins game two years ago...when the team enters the field to ...Crazy Train....by Ozzy Osborne...it really gets you pumped. Personally, I like heavy hard loud rock...or even something like this....but its been done so much...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czd60_7sMYQ"]YouTube - TROY - Carmina Burana[/ame]

At the pats game...they also use this line at the beginning...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZeYVIWz99I"]YouTube - 300 - this is sparta[/ame]

To me...football is the modern equivalent to the Gladiators....(I would love it if they used the "Are you not entertained") line. Its violent, its loud, and the sights and sounds should amplify those things. I would love to feel the music as our Aqua Demons storm the field...but I also recognize some may not like that....

More then anything though...what they have to do is generate excitement at an emotional level, something that gets fans blood flowing as we start the 3rd Qtr...that fills the stadium with excitement, and energy which can and does filter down to the field.

My wife is a football season widow. She will go to UGA games with me, and will watch game on tv with me (just to spend time with me). However, she doesn't really enjoy it. She is getting better though in actually understanding the game. So that is a plus.

I like to borrow from my old friend Hank, when he referred to the stadium as the "stadium formerly known as Joe Robbie". It'll always be Joe Robbie to me...

At any rate, I was a season ticket holder for 20 some years until we left the area in 2001. I have been back for a couple of games since then when it has worked out, but obviously not this season. I don't have too much of a problem with the hip-hop version of the song, nor do I have issues with Buffets' remake however, as was said in another thread, they kept playing the same song over and over again, from what I understand. Now, most of us go there to cheer on our beloved Fins, and the music, cheerleaders, other fans, or the ambiance of the stadium mean little, but there is something to be said for traditions. All to often, the idea of revamping the experience (anywhere for that matter) just isn't as good as the way it was. Revamping just to be revamping doesn't make sense. Ticket sales, as I understand it, have been good. But even after the 1-15 season they were pretty good ?? What does that tell you ?? It tells me that seeing the product on the field is the reason for ticket sales and not the revamped ambiance of the stadium...

Welcome to thephins. This is a great place to be. Great mods, admins and posters. I hope you stay around and enjoy.

As for the changes. I just don't know yet. I've loved this team for so long and have never got to see a game in person. (except one exhibition in Atlanta) But I do know that if I did get to go, I'd be so into the team that I don't know if I'd pay attention to anything else.

Rather anyone wants to admit it or not we DO have wonderful traditions and history with this team and I'd hate to see all of them fall by the way side. Because all that, so-called "old" stuff is what makes them the Miami Dolphins.

You say the die hard fans dont care about celebrity influence, and will be at the games no matter what. Thats exactly why the changes were not directed at the die hard fans. The celebrities all have their own fan bases. We now have ownership that represents whites, blacks, and latinos. This could be something that draws a casual fan towards the Dolphins as opposed to the Buccaneers for example. It's just good business to want to broaden your fan base. Catering 100% to the fans (customers/clients) that you already have will limit further expansion. Adding celebrity influence does not change how I feel about the Dolphins. And I cant think of a reason why anyone should view this as a negative thing.

As far as the song. This is catered to the younger crowd which prefers dancing over clapping. Old people get Jimmy Buffet, young people get T-Pain. Sure, we might not all be fans of their individual work; but it's all in the spirit of celebration. Embrace it, and celebrate your Dolphins.

WORD! I don't call it anything other than JRS. The man built that stadium with his blood, sweat, tears, and love of the Dolphins (and south Florida). When down there for games, my first stop is always to his statue to just give it a little tap for appreciation and thanks.

Yeh...Carmen Burana really hits the right emotional nerve....which is why Im kind of suprised they dont just hire a great score composer like John Williams...(Brave Heart)...to orchestrate something moving and fully powerful for the Phins....

Man..if they gave me the keys to the house....

At the end of the 3rd Quarter....Id incorporate a whole theme based on some nautical land under attack ...with a raging Neptune or Poseidon raising all kinds of hell and unleashing his storied Dolphin army to wreak havoc unto the enemy...with an obnoxiously loud and powerful score complete with fire, lasers, and thunder.....especially at night...Id dim the lights....have a howling wind...a hauting blue glow blowing torn and tattered banners from all of our opponents....Lasers making a triangle...calling on all the powers of the ocean....

I guess I tend to like the dramatic....lol.

I like it and it wouldn't even have to be that pricey. They could use the ribbon around the stadium to display waves. You could have the Neptune figure on one of the big screens with him unleashing the Dolphins. The sound system could replicate the sounds of thunder and howling winds. I think with the lights dimmed and the right score the mood would be set. Once the battle is engaged they could be displaying highlight hits that correspond to the music. That wouldn't have the lasers but the rest is doable with the existing equipment.

I don't mind what Ross has done with letting his limited owners in. I think it's not a bad idea. The NFL is a male dominated industry and I don't think there is anything wrong with letting the Willliams sisters, JLo, etc in on it. To also have minorities own some part of the franchise can't hurt. I think it can only help our image and what we also stand for. Critics have always said that the NFL have black players, now black head coaches but no black owners. I think this is at least a small step in the right direction.

At the risk of sounding like the movie soundtrack nerd that I am... John Williams is a great composer but he didn't score Braveheart. That would be James Horner.
