ugh, wtf is wrong with Perry? "Holiday" home? This is American pal. Quit hanging with Madonna. You got "a place in New Hampshire". Not a place you go on holiday, or "summering".

Thread title needs to be changed to "One of about a trillion reasons no one takes Peta seriously".

The current one makes it sound like this type of stupidity is an isolated incident.

I'm no fan of PETA but I wonder why the opposite side of them isn't held to the same standards.

Signs, like the People Eating Tasty Animals and people like Ted Nugent are just as classless and ridiculous.

I wish the debate could actually be about animal welfare instead of all this crap.

What pisses me off is that because of the way they portray the issue, no-one takes the cause seriously. I was a vegetarian for a pretty long while, nothing to do with PETA.

The truth is we are overdependant on animal products. We could all stand to drop a lot of the meat from our diets. Become extreme vegetarians? No. Even I eat meat now. But the point is there are some benefits to eating less at the very least.

No-one wants to see that however because of these Looney Toons that run PETA.

Sure. You'll be surprised, just how balanced it is though. If you take the time to look around, you'll see just as many web sites and blogs, etc, being against PETA as there is for it.

The main difference is PETA is an entity so they get more exposure.

Again, both sides are increasingly stupid with how they get their messages out there.

The discussion should be about should we treat animals more humanely.

The discussion isn't about who started it. The discussion is about why aren't those people held to the same standards as everyone holds PETA up too? In fact, people like this are the first ones to call PETA out. They're hypocrites.

I'd like to get to the point that we can see that both sides are being stupid, so then we can actually get to the real issues.

Exactly. I GUARANTEE that the rednecks who took those pictures has virtually no clue as to what PETA is really about. The only thing they probably know is that "PETA don't like huntin'".

Even if they do know what PETA is trying to do, and failing to do properly, the disregard for animal life is kind of disgusting. Hunting for food is one thing, hunting to spell PETA Sucks is another.

I don't see how, considering hunting is important to controlling wild animal population in many areas. It is much "sicker" to arrange the animals into words. However, no animals were hurt during the arrangement, and it might be no worse than just throwing them nonchalantly in the back of the truck, since some effort and care did have to go into arranging them.

From the pictures I saw in this thread where animals were arranged into words it looks like they were killed for that specific purpose because I don't think it was spur of the moment to make those signs. It seems premeditated to me and that more than likely the hunters killed the animals after a certain number for that specific purpose. Think about it do you really think those guys really needed to kill what seems like 100 animals just to eat among them? You would think if they were hunting for food or even for sport that maybe 2 to 3 rabbits or whatever would have been enough per person not 20-25. These pics were set up on purpose to piss of PETA and they knew that the more animals in the pic would make it worse. Essentially I am saying that animals were hurt to make that sign as many of them were killed for that specific reason and not for food or animal control but for spite of PETA. So yes animals were hurt in this process and I would bet no normal hunt would ever result in that many animals being killed, it was done as an act of spite.

With all that said I don't have a real problem with hunting. I don't necessarily get the point of it but I understand why others do. People should be allowed to hunt if they want but what the guys did in these pics was premeditated and the exact opposite of what "noble" hunting is supposed to be about; so I think they should be condemned for what they did. I also want to add that PETA is absolutely ridiculous and have done more to set back animal rights than help it (as shown in the pics). PETA for me is as annoying as the Truth campaign. I agree with other posters that have said both sides take it to far.

That does raise an interesting question...do PETA members eat eggs for breakfast? Since eating a chicken egg is denying the chickens right to life before it gets a chance to live therefore they are killing an animal. Which raises another question, does the "Pro-Life" crowd eat eggs or do their beliefs only apply to human eggs/fetuses not chicken or is it an all around right to life thing? I think my brain is about to explode. :D

Vegans don't generally eat eggs. Some will if they are collected before the incubation process begins. For the most part, they don't though.

Here we go again. There are people that are constantly trying to remove themselves from PETA, and they will tell you what a farce PETA actually is. However, when something is said regarding PETA, those same people are right there defending the very organization that they were just bad mouthing. It seems to me that there is a wolf in sheep's clothing in the mix.

Well I am not really familiar with the intricacies of what it takes to be a PETA member but are all of them vegans or are a large majority of them celebrities and/or people who want to act like they are fighting the good fight, while really doing nothing?

The reason I ask is that although PETA is a good idea in nature, I have yet to see the real positives of what they do. When you hear anything about PETA it isn't something they have done for the well being of animals it is usually some outlandish thing they have done or said. Now of course that could be the work of how the media covers PETA but most of the stupid things covered are directly from PETA (like the stupid comments made in this thread about Joe Perry or billboards they hang up that causes controversy). PETA seems like media seekers who are more about image/creating controversy then actually doing anything of merit. Good idea in nature because I am all for the well treatment of animals but it is poorly executed.

Also double standards exist everywhere. Like the question AZ raised about fetuses. Are all PETA members also Pro-Lifers since both a human and chicken are both animals so both eggs/fetuses should be protected? Then on the flip side if someone is a Pro-Lifer believing in the protection of life how can they accept eating the egg/fetus of a chicken which if it had never been tampered with could have lived just as is the argument with a human egg/fetus. Now I'm not saying which side of that argument I agree with since I am largely using broad exaggerated terms and being sort of sarcastic at the same time, but double standards exist on both side of this debate.
