Zach Thomas has been cut by the Chiefs.
I would like to see Miami bring him back for one game, then do the decent thing & retire his jersey.
Maybe the guy could be incorporated into the the defensive coaching staff as an assistant coach in-training.

    any thoughts on the subject?

Are you kidding why would they release such a talented player :pity:

Do we even have room for him to play one last season here ?

He's probably going to hold out hope that another team needs a LB at some point. So it might not happen this year and especially early on. But what you said should not even be a thought to Parcells and Co. They may not have coached him but they surely game planned against him for years.

Zach should be a first ballot ring of honoree....

I think someone is going to sign him anyway. If you're a team looking to strengthen the middle he's worth signing for a reasonable amount.
Dallas runs a 3/4. KC is going to be doing the same. He's too small to be effective in a 3/4. He needs those 2 big DTs up front.

While that would be appropriate, all accounts haave him wanting to play another season or two... Hope he stands by his words and not play for the Patsies, if they are the only team to call.

He has already said he wants to still play.

Zach will not play for the Pats, he has already made that clear. Besides they run the 3-4 also, so he wouldn't fit their schemes. HOnestly I really wish Zach would retire, I really worry about him getting another concussion and the long term effects on his health.

Zach will make an outstanding LB coach, maybe eventually a DC as well. If I had my way we would sign him to a 1 day contract, he would retire as a player, he would go on the Ring of Honor at Landshark next season, and then we would employ him as an assistant LB coach. Eventually his coaching skills would develop and he would have another great career as a coach in the NFL. But that's just my wishes. I respect his, no matter if they match mine or not.

    1) We aren't going to sign Zach Thomas. I love the guy, he's one of my favorite all-time Dolphins, but it isn't going to happen.

    2) If Zach wants to retire a Dolphin (I think there would be a very good chance that he does), the NFL has a special rule where players can sign for one day for their former team. They do not count against the 53-man roster, and they are not eligible to play, however, they do get to retire as members of the team.

All of Zach's career data, including statistics, would show him as a retired member of the Miami Dolphins.

    Love that man.
For what he stands for: team player, good guy, loyal and one of the best the Dolphins defense ever had.
I'm rooting for him what ever he decides.
I'll always miss seeing him hit the field with our team.
If he's not in the ring of honor and the hall of fame, something is terribly wrong with the system.

My favourite football player ever. With his football smarts and attention to detail I believe he'd be a great asset to our coaching staff, in what ever role.

If he wants to move into coaching I'm sure as hell he'll be a great success.

he has had too many head injuries, time to hang up the shoes
come home Zach, retire your jersey w/ dignity, then help out the coaching cadre
personally, I don't want to see him injured or humiliated

I'd hate to see him injured also.
But humiliated? Don't think that's possible.
If he should play somewhere, he'd do the best he could and there would be no humiliation in that IMO.

I really hope this is sarcasm. Zach is beloved here, but he's way past his prime and would be an awful fit in our scheme. I hope he retires this year.

Don't laugh, but AdamCaplan is chasing down a Zach to the Philly rumor.

ZT would make sense there, not sure if they want him though.

It would sure up their MLB situation. I know they grabbed that guy from SD Wilheilm but with their starter out you can never be too sure.

I'd love for Zach to land in Philly or some place where he has a shot to go to the dance.

No question he and JT will land in the Ring of Honor.

I think Zach's time in the NFL is pretty much done... It sad. I wish it wasnt. I loved watching him play. I just think he's had enough, just doesnt want to realize it yet. That being said... if he can get another year in, good for him. I hope its a great one and it gives him a shot at the post season. Otherwise, I'd like to see him sign a one day deal, and go out as a phin as he deserves

IMO, the sentimental side of it is that it's a sad time for football when some one loves the game the way Zach always has. There's so many that don't really care about their team and only want a paycheck or fame.
Zach is to me the ultimate player, who made watching football and rooting for the Dolphins a pleasure.
To have watched him grow and succeed as a player was a gift. Plus, him being such a super guy was just icing on the cake.
He and JT were the face of the team during some of the hardest seasons we've ever had. And they still made it fun to watch them.
Maybe I'm a homer, but Zach (and JT) are TRUE Miami Dolphins. The same as Don Shula,Dan Marino and some of the older guys.

I'm sure being cut is not the way Zach wants to end his career but I really wish he'd just hang it up for safety's sake.

When your doctors are telling you that you need to retire and you get cut by KC......it's time to quit

Zach has been to the pro bowl seven times. Except for the years he was injured and the year in Dallas, he hovered around the 150 tackle mark. Every opposing player ever interviewed about him agrees that he was everywhere on the field. He was undersized. He did what he did by being in the best shape he could be, endless preparation and sacrificing his body. He was also one of the smartest linebackers ever to play the game. His leadership was unquestioned. His family has money; he did what he did for love of the game. The guy is a role model. The Ring of Honor is a given. Why are we not discussing the Hall of Fame?
