according to what iam hearing from sparano....... omar kellys twitter: omar kelly: On carrying four TEs, Sparano said "it could last 3 days, could last a week, could last 2 weeks." who we trading? we cutting someone? this doesnt look like its lasting long.....maybe cut one for a KR'er ?
I think that may be the case chris. If we do claim a kr/pr guy we may cut one of the TE's for him. my guess is they may like the guy they just picked up more than one of the guys on the team.
I think it means that they are still exploring their options and are leaving no rocks unturned, as it was said in the past by Ireland. If a guy comes through the waiver wire that they feel can do a better job at the spot than one of the players they currently have, they would/could let go the player that's currently on the roster. This could also mean they want to see what they have from their tight end rotation. Davon Drew received high praise from Ozzie Newsome in the past but he was cut, so you wonder what's going on there. If he fails to show anything in the next three days, week or two weeks, then he's unlikely to be here long.
Well, Joey Haynos is our new #2 Te replacing DMart, which is intriguing and frightening at the same time, the guy is 6'7 and a lean 270. But Haynos cannot catch 40 yd passes down the seam like Dmart could, but if he develops he is a third offensive tackle out on the field.
Let's be real tho, most of our passing plays don't call for Haynos to run 40 yards. He'll be running 5-10 yard routes most of the game...this is a pennington offense after all.
I just listened to Sparano's presser and they had planned to move Dmart out all along, Haynos only took 10 days off this offseason and worked with the staff since January. As for 40yd passes, Penny consistently targeted Dmart for long passes Citizensnips, DMart down the seam was our big play passing offense and pretty much won the Seattle game for us last season, DMart was a bigger deep threat for us than Teddy Ginn was last season. FWIW, I think Haynos is a great prospect 6'7 270 and he can move for a big guy is tough to find in the NFL, but I think his blocking is a work in progress. If Haynos can block that is like having a 3rd offensive Tackle in the formation.
The average weight of the secondary in our first two games hovers somewhere around 190 lbs. I think we are in for at least two smashmouth running games to start the season that features alot of two TE sets. I don't think it's a bad idea in an attempt to keep Manning off the field.
Here's what I think: there's a chess game going on between Sparano/Ireland and another team - at least one other team - with Nalbone as the key piece. I believe that somehow Miami got wind of someone waiting for Nalbone to be waived with an eye toward signing him to the Practice Squad; maybe someone made a trade overture before cutdown day, maybe the word came through a conversation with Nalbone himself. Until that other team(s) offers up a pick, the game will continue.
I hate to see D-Mart go, but I think we were headed in that direction long term anyway so might as well make the move now. I do want to see what Haynos has got, he has had at least 1 TC/offseason in our strength & conditioning program, 2 I think, so he should be a mean 6'7" 270. Let's just hope he can catch and has learned to block this TC.
Apparently it only lasted a few days; it seems Davon Drew was waived today. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Wilson-Dolphins-waive-rookie-tight-end-Davon-Drew.html
That lasted long. What about guys like Garrett Mills or Leonard Pope? I thought they both would be descent and one is out of a job and one is chilling on the Vikings p-squad.
I'd love to sign Justin Miller or another swing tackle with experience. I thought Yamon Figurs got claimed by Detroit?
