We started at the 15 yard line more times than i care to acknowledge. we cant cover anything. they return kicks past the 30, they return punts 15-20 yards. i dont know what bonamego is doing, but we're gonna lose close games solely because of specials. im not too down about today's loss. we had 4 or 5 turnovers on the road, against a good team. i think guys like jake long and fasano will bounce back. our defense played very well. this will be, outside of maybe the Pats, the toughest our safeties will get tested. and they did ok, not great. but we killed ourselves, and still fought for 4 quarters. but this game would've been closer if we could return a damn kickoff past the 20. i mean, NO TEAM only gets to the 14 yd line on kick returns. we've seen OCs get canned in the pre-season, someone has to hold meat-head bonamego to the fire. if our specials were better, maybe we still would've had a shot in the 4th...despite the 4 turn-overs. oh, and for gods sake, OPEN UP THE OFFENSE! ps. i cant count elam botching chip shots and xps as good team play on specials.
We're still lacking a real return man IMO. I don't want to count on a starting WR. I wouldn't be surprised....now that we're past the first week in the season (i.e. new contracts aren't guaranteed).....if we pickup Justin Miller on Monday. However, the blocking has been subpar since last season. At least the coverage units were ok. Last year they were horrible until Erik Walden was signed.
I've never seen the last set of blockers let all 2 to 3 guys go through untouched to tackle the returnman at the 10-15 yard line. You gotta make those blocks, it's that simple.
I don't really think the returners are to blame at all here. The blocking was just terrible, 3 guys at least were through each time. Neither Ginn or Cobbs had anywhere to go. Just a disappointing game. Our special teams continues to be awful. We did have some bright spots though, specifically our rush defense and Merling.
And this happened 3-4 times today. Not once. I couldn't believe it. I'm still all for bringing in Justin Miller, though.
the issue with cobbs, was raw speed getting us out to the 20. i dont know, desean had a 85rd punt return for philly. no doubt he's their guy at wr too. i'd like to see us commit to teddy back on kick-offs.
bad ST but you can't take credit from ATL they have a really good special teams group.....our offense just played horrible today guys, we can bounce back, we just made way to many mistakes........
SpecialTeams is a big problem however the offensive line is a much bigger problem the real question is: can we resolve both problems by game four? we need both to be viable to win games
segway? (portuguese verb seguir, to proceed or SegwayTransporter) got me on that one however you're welcome to use it if you want to open another thread
I wonder if Parcells watched the game and if he threw anything before the game was over? I also bet there is a long talk among the three amigos the first part of the week cause it sure looks like the team took a step backward.
Lets get Usain Bolt for our return man haha. But seriously our blocking was pitiful, so I dont know if we can blame the returners for poor field position.
I've never wished for the Phins to kneel on the ball in the endzone until today... horrible blocking, but also horrible returning too. Clearly, something needs to happen and fast... Justin Miller will be wearing #22 by Tuesday for the Phins...
