Perhaps. I was thinking more along the lines of SNL where the sketches used to be pretty simple premises and the talent went with it. Now the premises are fairly convoluted and overthought, rendering them unwatchable for the most part.
I've never watched SNL so I couldn't tell you. I've only seen one clip of one in which Peyton Manning was on it and I thought it was dumb.
This is the one issue that could turn us into Superman (me) and Lex Luthor (you). Former best friends torn apart because of one disagreement. As much as you like pop culture, I still don't understand how you cannot love that show. SOMETIMES I JUST DON'T GET YOU!
Its not a good "show" It is essentially a bunch of non sequiters thrown together. It almost feels like a bunch of 1-2 minute sketches slapped together. If I ever have to watch another show, where right in the middle of it they force you to watch COnway Twitty for four minutes, I will pull an Elvis on my television set. During its original run I loved it. The storylines were pretty linear and most of the jokes and gags worked within the context of said story. Now? its all flashbacks, rake bits (like the ones anlgp talked about) and forced bits that play to no one but the back of the room. Don't get me wrong, a little inside baseball can be great (I find Norm MacDonald to be hilarious when he does his routine NOT for the audience, but fo the other comedians in the club), but too much and it just falls flat. Most of their jokes these days have about as much subtlety as a sledge hammer to the forehead, which is unfortunate because the show used to be outstanding. I do find American Dad to be chuckle inducing though. Perhaps it is a case of the original writers jumping over to work on that show and thus, leaving Family Guy to mire in mediocrity? I don't know. Maybe I am a xenophobe when it comes to my cartoons as I tend to compare everything to The Simpsons. Hell, I still can't stand South Park for that matter either.
family guy is pretty bad now. The early years were very funny. The simpsons still bangs out classic episodes they just don't do it as often. Looks like south park is probably the most consistent out of the big 3. I still rank simpsons above south park though.
I love American Dad, Roger may be the best cartoon character on TV at the moment. I think the fact that Family Guy makes no sense is why I find it appealing, although that seems to be the main bone critics pick with it. I like watching it knowing half the people don't get the references I do. It makes me feel superior knowing I've wasted my life memorizing quotes from obscure films and shows they've probably never heard of.
lol @ Sam being Lex Luthor.....it kinda fits. Not even really interested in seeing Clevelands new show. Might check it out.
The Simpsons has become more than a bit stale. And South Park; jeez, what...a 9-episode season?! And I missed half of them because I never even know when new episodes are on anymore. Not like it's state of the art animation or anything.
the simpsons still bangs out classic episodes, something most shows do once or twice a year. and southpark is funny as ****. **** the animation.
i absolutely love king of the hill and this show is that shows replacement. and it doesn't even look that funny.
Agree on SP, just that they need to put out more than 9 freaking episodes a year! That's what I meant about the animation...that it's not like a lot of cartoons which take a long time to produce because of their complexity.
Technically its more like 18 episodes a year, first half is in the spring, second half is in the fall.
riddle for you guys.. Pete and Repete are in a boat, Pete falls out of the boat, who is in the boat now...
i never forgot about futurama, i just assumed we were talking about cartoons that wwere still being made.
it has two movies that are coming out/came out. i believe its in negotiations to be brought back as a series.
