Shannon is going to conservative, they should be taking a shot at putting a dagger in GT's heart.

Would have liked to keep them at 10 but can't complain.

Well, #14 lost to #20 clearly, where does Miami end up in the polls?

    #12 maybe with the win?

Somewhere between #11 and #16 depending on what happens with everyone else IMO.

I thought Benji was a Sophomore?

Everyone obviously watched the game and there were a lot of things that stood out. For me, it was specific players. Here's some of them.

Olivier Vernon - This kid, I call him a kid because he's a freshman, is lights out. Really explosive off the line and has great athleticism. Georgia Tech is known for their shoulder blocks down below the knees and he really avoided them all night. I can't say enough about Vernon and his quick maturity.

Vaughn Telemaque - This is a guy that has had so many through the roof reviews from coaches and this is the first time I've seen him play. His reviews were just absolutely ridiculous since he came to UM. To say the least, he's damn impressive and a very good in the box safety. He's so disciplined and he has sound tackling technique.

Jacory Harris - He has to stand out for everyone in my opinion. Incredibly calm and even through in a grin/smile that we see with Ronnie Brown. His arm looked good tonight, he was the leader in the huddle once again and his accuracy was pinpoint.

LaRon Byrd - Prior to the game, I said that if Georgia Tech was going to leave their players on an island - as Alex suggested they may - they were going to pay with Byrd. Byrd's hands and route running showed up tonight. He looked outstanding. One thing I noticed with him which he has to correct, is that he gives away his routes. Watch him on that skinny post that he ran in which he caught the ball over the middle of the field. He runs it like he's running a go route and then starts going toward the middle before planting and cutting. He can't do that. If Georgia Tech DB's did their homework, they would have noticed that IMO.

Allen Bailey - I laugh everytime I see this guy because he's such a specimen. You dont' see guys like this walking around and looking so explosive. Great job staying disciplined tonight and getting into the backfield.

Brandon Harris - His potential is very high, IMO. He's by far our best cornerback and he's a very sound tackler. Willing to stick his head in run support. Also, like he did against FSU, he showed his maturity as a defensive back. Again, batting the ball out of a taller wideouts hands was very impressive. He got beat a couple times by Demaryius Thomas but that's alright, we were facing a run heavy team so I can understand why a sophomore would get caught cheating in the backfield. Overall, very good player and if he continues to develop, watch out. 5'11", 195 pounds and a physical player. Really deserved that interception that he got but Stephen Wesley wiped that out with a roughing, which I thought was a stupid call despite it being an unnecessary hit.

Graig Cooper and Javarris James - We needed a run game to win this game, in my opinion, and we got just that. Both of these guys ran hard tonight. Cooper looks electric out there, with quick cuts, showing improved vision - doesn't run into his blockers anymore - and he's shown another gear. Javarris James I was very proud of. He played his best game as a Miami Hurricane tonight. Really showed some toughness for the first time in his college career. Lowered his shoulder, wanted to take on defenders and ran hard tonight. Showed some wiggle as well.

Pipho, our RT - I can't remember his first name so forgive me but this guy matched up with Derrick Morgan and came away very impressive. Had one penalty in the first quarter and that was it. I was really impressed with him.

The intensity - These guys simply wanted it more and they kept their intensity high from quarters one to three. In the fourth, they started to let up defensively and I got a bit frustrated watching that but they quickly came back with two straight sacks and an interception that was negated, as noted earlier.

Great game overall by the guys. Jacory Harris once again is the man on the offensive side of the ball, Brandon Harris on the defensive side of the ball. Oh and big ups to Jordan Futch tonight. He hasn't seen a lot of playing time since he came to UM but tonight he saw some action at the MIKE spot, I actually believe he started the game there, and threw some great blocks on special teams. Loved it.

One last question: where's Arthur Brown? He needs to get his head into the playbook. Top linebacker coming out of Kansas and still hasn't hit the field other than ST's. Its embarrassing.

    I almost forgot one more.

Patrick Hill - That man puts his cap on every linebacker on every running play. Helluva lead blocker and has to be the biggest small man I've ever seen. He's like 5'9", 255? He's jacked.

I'm sorry I missed posting here with you guys during the game, but I watched it on DVR about an hour and a half behind real time.

We have a good rain coming tomorrow and I had some work to do in the yard before dark.

What a game! It reminded me how it used to feel to be a 'Canes fan.

Oklahoma used to come down to the Orange bowl ranked #1 or #2 after destroying some Big Ten team and Miami used to whip'em and run up the score like USC has been doing to Ohio State in recent years.

If we can make it past Oklahoma we are headed for a great season.

Another solid performance by the Canes, congrats guys. Wow, GT had no business being ranked that high with a defense like that. Next two games should be very good.

Going to be honest here, I think we could very well beat Oklahoma. I'm not sure yet about Virginia Tech but I'm pretty confident about facing Oklahoma, Bradford or not. He would be rusty, their defense I still find to be shaky because they tend to get undisciplined and then I think our speed will stand out in the game, both defensively and offensively. Marcus Robinson and Olivier Vernon are explosive players off the snap and that really causes trouble for the Oklahoma OT's, especially Trent Williams. Trent Williams has something in common with Branden Albert and it's that they both are very slow off the snap at LT and they both rely on their arm length to redirect pass rushers. They both also struggle with speed rushers, which is basically all we have at Miami right now. Our pass rushers are young and are still learning so they're raw and often just pin their ears back. I also think we'll be able to establish a run game there but it may be more with zone stretches that we saw last night than directly up the middle. DeMarcus Granger and Gerald McCoy, two very talented DT's, sit in the middle of Oklahoma's line and they get penetration well. McCoy is light on his feet so I would imagine they would run away from him.

Again, I don't get this. OSU has only played USC two times since 2002 (both being this and last year). USC definitely didn't run up the score this year, and I have a hard time saying they ran up the score last year since they didn't score after the 3rd QTR. I just don't see 35-3 as running it up. Running it up would be like Miami (FL) vs Oklahoma circa 2007 (51-13, 3 passing TDs by OK in the 4th).

Alen, I think you're right about OK's D, in all respects.

If the 'Canes can use some misdirection early to use their overpursuit to our advantage, they will gas the D like they did Tech's last night; then we'd have a chance to use our speed as a hammer.

    Agreed.

We're also probably good to get at least one, maybe two, undisciplined penalties. Over the last couple years, I've noticed that they tend to get stupid penalties like late hits or talking trash. Brian Jackson, their senior zone cornerback, is one of those types of players IIRC. Also, a guy I really like in their secondary and I think will be a top 64 pick when he decides to come out is Dominique Franks. He's very talented but he tends to cheat up a bit and you can get behind him. Travis Benjamin could take advantage of that. I could see LaRon Byrd also having success against him. Byrd's height once again comes into play and whilst Franks is a bigger cornerback too, 6'0", his tendency of cheating up a bit, specifically in the red zone, tends to have him beat and he can't swat the ball away because he didn't have enough depth in coverage.

Since Draft Scout went to hell it's hard to find good info.

Yeah, I hate what happened with NFLDS. I'd be surprised if he was faster than the 4.6-4.7 range though. The only reason I say that is because he's so thick in his lower body that I would imagine he would have a hard time changing directions with fluidity. I know that's an issue with Brian Orakpo, who put on roughly 50 pounds of muscle (I believe it was that number) at the University of Texas when he was there. Even in straight line running, I'd be surprised if he was faster than a 4.6.

    EDIT: Here you go Nabo.

I don't know the whole story, but it looks like CBS bought the site; it's crap now, with barely adequate top 10s and a format so bad it's hard to even tell what school a player is from.

Pretty sad...from best to worst in a few months.
