A study by an award-winning cancer expert shows that cell phone use could kill more people than smoking, it is reported.

According to the U.K.'s Independent newspaper, the study, headed by Dr. Vini Khurana, shows that there is a growing body of evidence that using handsets for 10 years or more can double the risk of brain cancer.

This is not surprising to me at all and it's something that has worried me quite a bit actually.

There have been times on calls of 30 minutes or more where I have actually felt a tingling and numbness in my head around my right ear where I hold my cell phone. Very disturbing.

In todays world, anyone in business can't afford to not use a cell phone.
It's a problem hopefully they can come up with some protection for us.

I checked into all the earpieces and headsets as a solution but from the information I gathered apparently, those carry the same level of radio waves right to your ear as the phone does.

From what I've read, there is no evidence to indicate an increased danger of cancer if you use Bluetooth but I think it is only because there is not enough data yet and that they will eventually find a link.

The safest thing to do now is speaker phone or a wired ear piece so that the phone itself stays away from you head.

    No joke!

Some will use that line as a denial of risks though.

Fact is that with increased technology comes side effects like this that the creators of such technology never considered.

It's not that people just want to push the panic button all the time, it's just that we are creating a number of new dangerous situations for ourselves as we develop technology.

I did all that investigating before blue tooth came out so maybe they incorporated something into it to address this danger.

Speaker phone would be the only way that you could guarantee safety but it's so damn annoying and impossible to use if you're not in a private place.

Wired earpieces actually have more radiation then the phone itself. Many Bluetooth headsets have less radiation the phone itself.

there was a study done on this in canada independent of any wireless companies research.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_Special_Interest_Group

Bluetooth uses the microwave radio frequency spectrum in the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz range. Maximum power output from a Bluetooth radio is 100 mW, 2.5 mW, and 1 mW for Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 devices respectively, which puts Class 1 at roughly the same level as mobile phones, and the other two classes much lower.[24] Accordingly, Class 2 and Class 3 Bluetooth devices are considered less of a potential hazard than mobile phones, and Class 1 may be comparable to that of mobile phones.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth

Anything with cell phones has radiation. Its still less then your microwave or Computer emits, bout the same as your TV, and less then an airplane.

While this does grab my attention because cell phone use is so common today, and in many case's is taking the place of a house phone, I would have to wait to see more tests. I can remember back several years ago when they said saceren(sp?) was suppose to cause cancer big time, then it was discovered in many of the studies they were injecting the rats at doses higher then a human would take in.... a month or something like that. Then is was red meat, then it was eggs. IMO they release these studies sometimes to soon before they have all the facts and then it causes a panic. But then again I am no scientist and I am probably way off base.

I would agree with you but sometimes things have an effect people can feel and at that point it becomes pretty obvious that something is wrong.

I've had that experience many times and I can attest that during long conversations I have felt troubling symptoms.

Feeling of heat around the area, tingling and numbness.
As far as I'm concerned this is a very real problem.

Well thats the thing with these studies, it is assumed there is a correlation between the frequent use of a cell phone and someone catching cancer. In other words there is no way to say that it was the cellphones that caused the cancer because well all they are looking for more then likely is their cell phone usage and maybe a couple of other cancer causing agents.
My question is though is it the radio waves coming in that cause the cancer or the electrical components which would emit a magnetic field, or a combination of both?

I would say hat could be most likely attributed to the pressure you are putting against your ear. The face inperticuler is loaded with capillaries and veins and when you are putting pressure on your ear while talking a long time you are cutting off the circulation to that area and we all know what it feels like when your leg falls asleep. And the warm feeling i would say could be caused from the lack of air flow from the phone on your ear and your skin does not have a chance to cool that area.

i think you're on the right track, as to what the cause of cancer would be from. all electronics emit energy, and these phones emit really high levels...but who knows.
