This thread is for rational discussion. How can anyone blame this loss on anything other than the defense?
In a word? NO!!! They were horrible. And only played 15 minutes. CAn you imagine how ugly this game would have been if our offense didn't do what they did, even if they failed on the last drive? And all the reasons they did fail. My god, would have been a blow out!!
Defense sucked. So did Ginn. But remember, Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning. I dunno what that means. I started drinking a lot of vodka in the 4th qtr. Still drinking..................
I'm sorry, they put up 300 yards in less than a quarter. Think about it like this, if by the time the first quarter was over, and the other team put up 300 yards, you'd call for everyone's head on defense, regardless of what the offense did.
Yes he did While that last one in the endzone should have been defensive PI, the guys hand was under Ginns shoulder pad. But Ginn should have caught it, agreed. Manning threw for over 300 yards and was only on the field for 15 minutes...look NO FURTHER as to why we lost this game. LBs, stunk! Secondary, we knew was a big question mark and for as good as we are up front on run plays, we got very little meaningful pressure on Manning. I hate Ginn now, done with him as a potential #1, he is a wimp. Reminds me of Chris Chambers!! But he did catch 11 for over 100 yards. DEFENSE cost us this game!
Peyton didn't break the tackles. Peyton is great, but our defense missed multiple tackles on on every Colts score.
I know, I know... the defense was terrible tonight. Gave up big chunks of yardage, and TD's way to easily. Fact of the matter still is, our offense still got in position to win the game, the pass was in the hands, and dropped. You can't blame the D for that. We had 3 minutes and change to score, playcalling was horrendous, and the drop by Ginn was the dagger. Gibril Wilson needs to go. Needs to learn how to tackle... something. Anything. I finally now know why everyone really is on Crowder, he was horrendous on that pass to Clark. I dont think you can blame the run D. Its the Pass D when you want to talk about the defense being at fault. We still had a chance to win the game though. Ball in receivers hands, you have to catch it. Simple as that.
Few are arguing that Ginn should of caught that ball. But if 1 missed catch for a TD equals 1 missed tackle to stop a TD, then the defense screwed the pooch 30 times more than Ginn did.
we tried to blitz. we tried to do what the Jets did to New England. the difference? A game Peyton vs. a rusty Brady. Peyton made us pay. our safeties and ILBs are bad. and there was plenty to blame the O on. Penny missed a slew of opportunities today. Ted didn't catch the balls he needed to. we settled for field goals too often, like right before half, when Peyton killed us in 30 seconds and they got the field goal. i hate to say it, but we almost playes scared. not wanstache scared, but pretty scared. at least specials tightened up.
yea so did anthony fasano and carpenter missed a FG and our Defense gave up 27 points in under 15 min's if i defense makes one stop or if fasano makes the catch if ginn makes the catch or if carpenter makes that fg we only need 1 more fg this loss isnt all on ginn it is mainly on the defense
I blame the defense due to the lack of the 4 man rush and the coaches for not having the outside linebackers smack Dallas Clark in the face when he was going out for a pass
I'm really happy for you, and I'ma let you finish, but that two minute drill was one of the worst I've ever seen in my life. Worst I've seen in my whole life! So I do believe, our coaching was to blame. Playcalling was suspect as well, so add more to that. Coaching and Defense. 1A and 1B to blame. Way way below is Penny, Ginn, and the rest of our WR corps (seriously 53 yards to WRs other than Ginn)
Gibril shouldnt even be able to touch the RB as a FS he is like 10 to 15 yards off the ball and if the RB gets to him that means more then one person on the team missed tackles
I don't know who is the worst starter on this team right now; Gibril Wilson or Anthony Fasano. Tonight I'll go with Wilson. Fasano only ****ed up once this week.
Frumundahs' post is the most logical post on here. Gibril Wilson IS THE RESAON we lost. WTF happened to the good tackler I heard about. He sucks. Parcells & Co. should be embarrassed that we signed his sorry non tackling glutes. He got ran the f**k over and burnt time after time.
Defense sucked. Ginn cost us with the drop, but I blame the playcalling just as much. 3rd and 7 and you call a run straight up the middle? Nice call after we were 13-17 on 3rd downs with many of those being passes. And then after Indy scores and we have to go 80 yds in 3 minutes, 1st down was a run w/ no hurry-up...2nd down was a run w/ no hurry-up?? Wasted valuable time right there. I am so disgusted with this game I couldn't even sleep last night.
I went to bed thinking how weak we were up the middle. Crowder is nothing more then a shadow to a ball carrier. Wilson couldn't of been the best free agent out there. The Defense lost the game hands down. That was a shame too. The offense did so well for most of the night. Penny and Ronnie were stars.
I blame it on the defense, and particularly Gibril Wilson. Yes Ginn could have and should have won the game with the two TDs that went right through his hands. BUT....there's a reason everyone in the football world was flabbergasted that the Dolphins lost a game in which it had a 3 to 1 TOP ratio, no turnovers (hail mary passes don't count), over two hundred yards rushing and 13 of 18 on third downs....there's a REASON for it!...because when you give your opponent only a handful of plays with which to match your scores, 99% of the time they just can't. An offense, any offense, Peyton Manning or no Peyton Manning shouldn't be able to score 3 TDs on three drives totalling 9 plays (1 play; 5 play; 3 play)....9 PLAYS!!!! It's not suppose to be THAT easy in the NFL to score. And WHY did they score so easily? Missed tackles I say. The first TD by Clark should have been over at the 40 but Wilson just plain missed a tackle he should have made. The second TD (run) likely would have happened anyway, but once again Wilson did his best impression of a matador by trying to tackle a running back with a full head of steam by grabbing him by the shouders and tried riding him to the ground instead of going low and sticking him with some shoulder pads...that was PATHETIC. The third TD was part timing (we were in a blitz) but also, once again, our friend Wilson had a chance to keep it to a 20 yard gain like a good safety should but instead of turning the receiver to the inside where he had support, he runs backwards, turns the receiver to the sideline and makes a horrid attempt at an arm tackle once again. If Wilson plays like a real safety should on those three plays, I think that at the very least the Colts burn up more time to score and in the endgame, would not have had enough time to score enough points to win. And who knows, maybe they don't score at all or only 3, but the fact remains that our tackling was HORRENDOUS and it probably cost us the game. Not Ted Ginn. Steve Yound said something very interesting in the post game wrap up. He said that if the Dolphins continue to play like the did tonight for the rest of the year, they'll win most of their games, and if the Colts continue to play like they did tonight, they'll lose most of their games. Food for thought.
Crowder looked like a chump covering Clark, but maybe he shouldn't have such huge responsibility? Some D scheme work is in order because they can't continue to match Crowder up with a competent tight end.
I don't blame Chowder so much for the opening pass as I do for everything else he DIDN'T do. He looked like a feeble little old man chasing kids out there. Girbil Wilson is simply Terrible. Put Jason Allen back there, at least he can cover against the pass to some degree.
St.LouisFinFan has it completely right in his last paragraph....if we play like this in the rest of our games, we will win most of them. I too heard that from Steve Young on Sportscenter last night and it helped alleviate some of the disappointment from this loss. I posted recently how I am not looking forward to seeing the Saints come marching into Miami on Oct. 25th, but then are we going to be playing against someone of the caliber of Peyton and Brees. I really feel that this is going to get turned around. There is no possible way that they can stink it up like this each and every week. I think Sean Smith has tremendous upside and talent. Even though Reggie Wayne burned us for a clutch catch or two (and you know he is going to get his catches), I think Smith did a nice job of covering him. Gives me some hope. As for Gibril and Channing, gentlemen, its high time to shape it up. This is NOT the Gibril Wilson we thought we were getting. As for Channing, time to put on the big boy pants and start playing like you deserve to fill God's spot. I mean, COME ON, EA Sports ran simulations of this season and predicted YOU as Defensive Player of the Year. Don't let me down... Anyways, run defense is stellar. We just need to send our boys to a tackling academy or something. Wildcat, fad, for real, whatever. It knocked the Colts on their *** all night. Dwight Freeney and Co. looked whupped. Ronnie and Ricky looked great. Good to see Ronnie gaining his form back from the 2007 season. And Ricky....jesus that man is HOSSIN dudes around. All in all, breathe Dolfans. There are 14 more games to go. Each one is as unpredictable as the next. These guys WILL get it turned around on D. No doubt in my mind
Yes, I know that the defense did screw us for the entire game, that was to be expected against a pass heavy team like the colts, and peyton manning. Fact of the matter still remains, we had a chance to win the game, we went to Ginn, and for the second time in a game he drops a catchable pass in the endzone. He needs to make that catch. I know, he was valuable throughout the game for us on 3rd downs, and i hope we see more of that from him. He's paid to catch the ball. He dropped 2 TD's last night. One that could have gotten us the win. You just can't do that. I hope he can continue to improve, because after last nights game, there's no doubt he looks like he has improved his game.
Too upset about this loss to blame it on any one part or person, Ginn, Wilson, Crowder, Fasano, Carpenter and Dan Henning all equally share in this loss IMHO.
I wouldn't mind seeing Jason Allen back there, to be honest. He makes plays when he's in the game, always has.
