I'm really torn on this one. Chris is more gifted (I think) as a player, but the o-line needs the help more, and in a way the o-line can make the d-line better by keeping them off the field and being able to run the ball effectively for long sustained drives. But I think at this place in the draft you go for bpa, so I voted for CL.

I gotta go with Chris Long on this one. Don't get me wrong, Jake is a good talent, but there is a lot of O line talent in this draft.

Great thread, had to vote Jake, though Chris is fine with me, I just worry so much about our OL. Chris is probably the better player long term, but our OL is just so decimated. I'm all a twitter, what to do, what to do . . . I know, let Parcells and Ireland decide! That works!

Definitely Chris if we stick with the #1 overall pick, however, if we trade down and Chris is no longer on the board then I wouldn't mind Jake. If it means we gained an additional first day pick. :wink2:

My vote went to Chris Long for 2 reasons.
First I keep reading that Chris Long is the safest pick. If we want to see a quick turn around then we can't afford any Eddie Moore / Jamar Fletcher picks. We really need to see results out of (at least) our 1st day picks.
Secondly, although I read that Jake Long is the best tackle in the draft, I also read alot of experts' opinions that he's going to be best suited to RT. If Jake Long is going to be a RT, then we don't want to pick him #1 overall. This draft is full of talent at the OT spot. We should be able to find a quality RT at the #32 spot.

i would take either one and will be happy with either one, but i would go with chris long just because A he is a beast on d and will help fortify it for years to come and B we can find good Oline man in the second round like we found satele

thats such a tough call. but i had to vote chris long. i just think he is the safer pick at #1. we desperatly need help on the o-line... and jake would fit in very well, but i just dont know if he is worth the cash that a number 1 pick would get. chris long ont he other hand... when you throw him into the mix with JT (assuming he stays) instantly makes our secondary better becuase we'll be gettin to the QB alot faster, which means it takes pressure off our DB;s.. so for those reasons, i think i would lean towards chris long... but its a tough call

OLB is the most important position in a two gap 3-4. It's the playmaker. JT is not here for long, 2-3 years at the most. If you have the chance to grab a Chris Long for that position you take it.

My vote is for Chris Long. This is a deep year for OT, so I think we can still get a good one at 32.

Chris is more of a sure-fire, can't miss prospect. He is considered versatile enough to play DE in a 4-3 or OLB in a 3-4. He has the pedigree, full time, non-stop motor you look for at this level and even tho he's not considered a 'natural' athlete, he's got the game film that shows that he dominated at the collegiate level and can play at the next.

Jake is a mauler who is considered the best of the OTs in a deep draft, but there isn't the separation between Jake and Clady, Williams and Otah that you might think. He's considered by most scouts as a tremendous RT at this level, but unsure of how good a LT he'll make because of his lack of ideal footwork at that position in the pros. Now, history is full of guys that made scouts look bad on draft day, but the things going against him is that he is not considered a sure-fire, can't miss prospect at LT and teams in general are not going to pay #1 overall money to a RT.

So, although I'd not be too disappointed at either selection, I'd put my money on Chris being selected before Jake...(at least by the Fins)

Tough choice, but I went with Chris because, like others have stated, this draft is pretty deep with OL... and while that is a huge need, there will be plenty of good talent later.

This is a deep OT draft, and Chris Long is a better player. The real choice is between C. Long and Dorsey. If we end up taking J. Long or Ryan in this draft, I'm going to be major-league pissed.

Many "experts" believe that Jake Long is a RT and not a LT I know this isn't news to any of you, but IMO if that's true there is no way that you can take a RT with the #1 pick in the draft.

Chris Long is the pick as long as we stay at #1 overall. There's just so many reasons you take him - good pedigree, great motor, coaching ties ... it just makes sense. Jake Long is a good prospect in his own right, but I think Chris will end up being the pick.

Ok, I hope I don't get beat up for this... But.. I think Jake Long would be a better pick IMO. Reasons behind it..

Jake - played against for the most part better teams week in and week out, he also appears to still be able to learn the position and grow into being a special player. While consensus he is not as polished as Joe Thomas i think but equal to Staley. So with his size and athlecticism he can be better than what has been out there for years on our team.

Chris- Played against more of a lighter schedule in the ACC. He had 4 sacks and as a lot of reports from specialist out there state he might not have as good of an upside.

I think that there are always going to be pretty good defensive players out there year in and year out not so much of OT that are versitile for each side. this is IMO

I think I said Chris Long only because is fun to watch a rookie DE, and not as fun to watch a LT. So for the team I would be happy with either pick

This is a rough one. You are talking about 1a and 1b here. We do need offensive line help in the worst way, but I think we would be better off taking Chris Long with the first pick and then addressing the offensive line with the second round pick.
