Also, in addition to his 18 passing TD's last season, he also had 3 rushing TD's and one receiving TD. Thats 22 TD's in 11 games on a very bad Chiefs offense with one of the worst OL's in the league. Pretty impressive.

Who does he remind you guys of? How strong is his arm? Pocket presence? Leadership ability? Accuracy?

I admit I didn't pay much attention to the guy, but the little bit of observation I had led me to conclude he didn't have much pocket awareness. Could be very wrong.

[EDITED TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:] NEVERMIND - I was thinking of Brodie Croyle.

Initial gutshot reactions after watching 10-15 minutes of highlights:

His throwing motion is a cross between Shaun Hill and Matt Schaub. Not a rocket arm by any stretch of the imagination, but the ball gets finds its way there. His deep balls are almost always underthrown. He is nimble in and around the pocket and can throw the ball well on the run. Doesnt need to set his feet to make plays.

Every highlight video shows him against us and deja vu with Akin,Bell and the secondary as Tyler torched them

This guy has a strong arm, doesn't key on just one receiver, has great mobility and footwork...it's just a matter of time before he gets to meet Jake Grove's rear end

we need 3 QB's on the roster. the trade was out of necessity, we weren't looking to upgrade the roster's playmakers. :wink2:

thigpen is about as good as we could have gotten. don't forget he put up those numbers on a very bad Chiefs team, with no o-line to speak of. this doesn't turn things around for us, but it puts the QB situation to bed for awhile.

From what I understand we were already getting an undisclosed pick for the trades earlier in the year. This just cancels that pick out.

So in essence got rid of Ndukwe and... forget who else... for some depth at QB.

How is this a bad thing? Did the chiefs have some WRs we wanted to poach or something instead?

If we gave up a ANOTHER second round pick for a backup QB, which it doesn't seem to be the case, but IF we did...I will literally **** a brick.

I guessed yesterday that he might be one we'd sign. I like the Thigpen trade better TBH. He's younger, cheaper, and has alot more upside.

In the link on the post at the front page called "A case for Tyler Thigpen" it goes on to mention that as of august the Chiefs were shopping for a 5th round pick. I would be VERY surprised if we gave them better than that, especially considering they have him 3rd string, and have already played a few games into the season.

I guess it's possible though, but if they were shopping for a 5th, I think it's pretty safe to say we did not give them a 2nd :)

The only good thing about Garcia at this point is that we can look at naked pics of his wife. We're 0-3, not 3-0. Lets get some young QBs in there and be taken care of for a long time.

Yeah I remember that. I just can't recall for certain from where. Was it Best Damn Sports Show?

As to Thigpen......I just had a very humorous thought.
Thigpen was a 7th rd draft pick. How funny would it be if he ended up lighting up the league and being the one to bring us back to prominence?

i don't see why anyone is calling thigpen mediocre

watch his old games, the guy is good (i'm a chargers fan, there's no bias here...seriously, go watch his highlights)

this reminds me of the time sd traded for billy volek as an insurance policy

I really like him. I was wondering why in the pre season no team that was in need for a QB would trade for him. He put up good numbers last season for being on a team like the Chiefs. If Henne doesnt get it done, I think Thigpen could be our guy.

when i first heard of this news earlier today i was pissed! But the more i think about it, the more i'm ok with it. i just hate that we gave up a pick. If henne goes down we're in trouble with Pat White.

yeah because teams are SOOO willing to trade their good WR's and DB's.

Thigpen is a good backup QB. he's perfect for what we need him to be, and could grow into having a permanent spot on the team.

Considering we spent a 3rd ad 4th on Turner and Hartline, I'm ok with it...

Besides, we're trading for, at worst, a quality backup. However there is big upside with Thigpen, IMO. At least we know what we're getting.

In some ways, Thigpen is getting off light, he missed all the fun and games and vomitting of the offseason workouts...

If Thigpen is starting by week 8, then expect those "we should have drafted Matt Ryan" threads to explode on every fins forum on the internet. And they'll be right....

Thigpen taking the starting job from Henne would be a disaster for this team.

The only thing that could be worse is them penciling him in long term and not pursuing another QB prospect in the off season.

Keep your fingers crossed Henne works out....otherwise the current FO may be joining their predecessors within a couple years.

Great pickup. We needed a QB. He did have Tony Gonzales and Dwayne Bowe last season to help him, but that was a bad Chiefs team last season, especially their O-Line.

    Next up...trade for Brandon Marshall.

I for one, am as happy as heck that Tyler is now on a real team. Some of you might remember me from last year just prior to the KC game. I watched Thiggy through 5 years at Coastal and I believe in him.
I am also very happy that I now can visit (daily) a forum that has a lot of class and gracious posters.
I think it will take at least a couple of weeks for Thigpen to really learn the playbook, and then he will be ready, if needed, to come in and help the team.

ok, i don't understand the optimism. this guy got traded for an undisclosed pick because he was beat out by brodie croyle. he's 1-10 as a starter. i'm a homer too, but let's not blow our load about this guy.
