This is a fairly simple question, so I'm going to make a poll about it to see where everyone is at. What are your expectations for him this season? Do you give him a fairly short leash knowing we have an experienced but young backup in Tyler Thigpen?

We have two games vs the Bills and Jets here at home and then the bye week. So if he doesn't prove his worth by X (see poll) should he be replaced?

I have an answer, which I'll post later today but I want to get the pulse before I do and don't want my opinion to sway anyone elses... :shifty:

Here's the rest of our schedule this season:
    4 vs Bills
    5 vs Jets
    Bye
    6 vs Saints
    7 at Jets
    8 at Pats
    9 vs Bucs
    10 at Panthers
    11 at Bills
    12 vs Pats
    13 at Jags
    14 at Titans
    15 vs Texans
    16 vs Steelers

I believe he deserves the rest of the season. Unless he is so bad and we see no upside, but he needs to get a real chance, we can't pull a Beck on him.

Unless he totally falls apart and does horrible, which I can not see happening, I say give him at least 4 games to get settled in and see the positives and negatives of his game to evaluate. That gives him some fair and some good defenses to test his play against.

Rest of the season. It's very important to come to a clean conclusion about Henne by the end of the season.

alot of teams we play after the bye are very beatable.

If he sucks for 9 or 10 games then I expect Thigpen to take over.

Apparently this is a landslide, and I agree as well. We have to learn what we actually have in him. The next 13 games will decide if he is our future everyone has been excited for, or if we should start preparing to go get McCoy, Bradford, Snead, or Tebow.

He's waited a year and a half for this (not necessarily Pennington's Injury, but for the opportunity).

He deserves the chance to go out there and prove his fans right, and his skeptics wrong. We wouldn't get a good idea of Thigpen even if we played him this year. If Henne bombs and plays like garbage, then we draft a QB high next year and let him compete with Thigpen for the start.

But to allow Henne anything less than a full season to get in and adjust is not fair to him, and wouldn't help the team in the long run.

Did you have to say Tebow? can you imagine having Pat White, Tim Tebow, and Tyler Thigpen (in no particular order). We would have to run the spread or wildcat 100% of the time.

IMO, there are a good many variables that may come into play. His play of course being the most important. Team success being another (W/L record). Having said that, if I'm Coach Sparano, I want to give him a long hard look, as well as give him every chance to succeed. But...if by the last 4-5 games of the season he just isn't getting it done, then I would feel compelled to plug in Pigpen to see what he can do. By, then he should have a firm enough grasp of the playbook to give him a fair shot.

    JMHO...

the easy part was winning the position
    now
Henne has to earn the position

this will be his year to swim or sink

positives: eight year starter (HS/Univ) strong arm & a year plus to learn under Pennington
negatives: not too many, maybe his score on the wonderlic was a bit low for QB's @21, the average was 24
Qb's have to develop on the playing field. he will need this season to sort things out & answer the big questions. can only hope he steps up big time. liked the acquisition of Thigpen, a different kind of QB with a different set of skills & an excellent arm. we also have Pat White & the development of the WildCat, this has to be an important developmental year for Miami.

can't wait to see how we play against Buffalo

I say we give Henne 4 weeks, if he doesn't light it up we give 4 to Thigpen and if he doesn't light it up give 4 to White. That still gives us 1 game to try a free agent or maybe Ronnie Brown. :huh1:

Sorry, no offense intended Paul 13, :knucks: but we have gone through weeks of debates about replacing Pennington with Henne and now that Pennington is gone we are already discussing how much time to give Henne before we yank him for the next option.

You HAVE to give him the rest of the season to see if he's our guy for the future or not. He's got all the tools, now let's see if he can translate them into success. I'm so excited for this game on Sunday!

    Nice...

Give him the rest of the season... you need to know who he is and what you need for next year (RECEIVERS!!!!).

It isn't mathematically impossible to make the playoffs, but pretty darn close, so might as well see what you got.

He wins a few games, shows the coaches/fans some good things and everyone is happy/happy next year... from one Chad to another.

I think it's a credit to the level-headedness of this forum that the rest of the year (which I believe to be the right answer) is running away with this pole.

You really can't learn too much about a player in 2, 5, or even 9 games. Heck, my rule of thumb is 3 years for draft picks.

I'd give him till after his fifth game, the Pats game. If he's showing promise and looking mostly good, keep him in. If he's stinking the joint up, give Thigpen a shot.

I think it goes without saying though is if he is awful, and not progressing at all from week to week that the rest of the season thing doesn't apply.

I don't think anyone with a logical point of view on things is going to expect the guy to move mountains. Some people are expecting him to be Pennington with a rocket arm, which he definitely is not yet.

I'd be happy to see, over the 13 game span, him gradually progress into a confident quarterback. He's got plenty of time to build himself into the gun slinger all star QB (if that's something he will become).

Hopefully what Sparano said is true, and they let him play his game of football. Let him take what Pennington equipped him with, combine it with his physical skills, and crank up the offensive dial. I seriously get chills thinking about how things could be in 2-3 years with Ronnie in the backfield, and Henne throwing bombs to Wide Receive X that we draft next year... But I'm getting ahead of myself...

I Agree, the rest of the season, but technically, since we'll be playing in the Super Bowl, he can't go to the Pro-Bowl, as it's being played the week BEFORE the Super Bowl. So Henne, the other Pro-Bowl players on our team & the Pro-Bowl players from whichever lame NFC team we're going to beat will not be playing in that game...

The fact that Henne has never started one game in the NFL, yet someone has thought it appropriate to create a poll asking about how many games he'll start before being pulled...well that doesn't seem to show much faith in the Dolphins front office and its ability to draft well.

Its like he's expected to fail.
Me? I'm hoping for the best. Hell, none of us were sure about Marino either when he was drafted. Thats why he fell so far in the draft. Lets let the kid play and get used to the team.

I only hope he can become the leader. To own the offense, not just be part of it.

I honestly do expect him to fail. I'm not sold that he has anything that makes him an NFL starter beyond a strong arm. Which is why I said nine games.

If he still doesn't have any feel for pressure, throws into tight spots routinely, locks onto his receivers and sometimes throws without even looking after nine weeks it is never going to change.

I hope I'm very, very wrong, but I don't see much from Henne, and I don't think our WR's will help him much either. So, I think it's Thigpen after the bye.

Just so we're not ready to jump off a cliff after watching Henne stink it up for 6 weeks straight, know this:

Eli Manning was a disaster his first year with the Giants. They were something like 5-2 when Warner got injured. He came in and I think got 1 win finishing the season 6-10.

...........the rest is history. It worked out pretty well for the G-Men.
