3:07 start time would suck. I work until 5, dont get home until almost 6. Us WCers would miss most of the game. At least a Thursday start seems more likely.

I havent watched a game in at least that long. Looking forward to meaning games once more

Game 1 is officially on Thursday at 9:37pm eastern time (6:37pm for all of those west coasters).

Game 2 is on Friday at 9:37pm eastern time.

Good luck to the Angels and their fans. Hopefully history keeps repeating itself, either way it should be a good series.

There's no way that Delcarmen makes the postseason roster, right?

They need a long-man in the pen. Byrd or Bowden, please.

I can't stomach the thought of a useless piece of trash like Manny eating up a post-season roster spot.

Also, I'd love to see Gathright added as the 5th outfielder and serve the Dave Roberts role of some speed off the bench.

The Sox will probably go with 10 or 11 pitchers in the first round and 11 in the next (if they get that far).

I'd be very surprised if Delcarmen got a spot on the roster. I think you'll see Paul Byrd get it which is fine because the only way he'd get into the game is if we're getting killed or its extra innings, if Delcarmen made the team he'd be doing the same. Neither guy would see any meaningful innings. I will say it's too bad Bowden never had a real shot at pitching out of the pen, he looked good the few times he was asked to go one inning.

Also because Saito never went on the DL and pitched in over 50 games, his option for next year automatically kicks in at 6 million (which was the only reason we could have signed him in the first place). I know we killed him a lot this year but he did finish the season strong and could be a real asset in October.

Lowrie will be on the post season roster. No word yet on anyone else like Baldelli, Delcarmen, Byrd, etc.

There seems to be some concern regarding the number of innings Buchholz has thrown between his time in Pawtucket and Boston. For the year, he's thrown 191 innings (99 in Pawtucket and 92 in Boston), which for a guy of his build, seems somewhat excessive (he's 25 and certainly hasn't filled out like Lester did).

There's some speculation that his last couple outings, which have been sub-par, might be a result of his workload this season.

I'm not saying I agree with the speculation, and this talk could simply be the Boston media trying to make a story out of nothing, but at the very least, its an interesting point of view.

We need Buchholz on his game because there's no other team in the league that can roll out a third starter with that kind of stuff.

People started talking about his inning limits back in August. Hey it's possible he could be hitting the wall a bit but he is getting a full weeks rest in between starts and I have confidence the Sox know what they're doing in regards to their young pitchers. But hopefully he's ready to go on Sunday.

Paul Byrd IS on the roster, Delcarmen is NOT. Also still no word if Rocco will be on the roster but Francona said 2 back up OFers will be on the roster (its down to Rocco if healthy and either Anderson or Gathright).

Delcarmen is such a disappointment. To bad we didn't trade him while he still had perceived value. Give me Gathright over Anderson for the aforementioned Dave Roberts role.

Hopefully like previous years, may the 1st round be a one sided beat down of the Angels. Go Sox.

I think Delcarmen still has 'some' value. Like I said before I can definitely see him going over to the NL and saving 40 games. If the Sox put him on the trading block teams will call them up, granted they probably won't get much.

And I agree with Gathright, he'll be on the roster either way. Anderson's only shot is if Rocco is still hurt.

I wonder if the Angels will be complaining about CB Bucknor tomorrow. I haven't seen an ump blow 2 calls like that in a game in a long time, he really should be taken off the ump crew if only for his own safety when they go back to Boston.

I'm giving up on this game, it's not looking good with 0 outs and the bases loaded. The Sox bats disappeared tonight and that one pitch from Lester sealed the deal. Hopefully Beckett will even up the series and bring it back to Boston.

The umpiring was absoutely BRUTAL last night. Not sure how there aren't consequences for sucking at such a high profile job. Look on the bright side, CB is behind the plate tonight.

Oh well, kudos to the Angels, Lackey shut the Sox down.

Tonight is the season. I feel pretty good with the best big game pitcher in baseball going for us tonight, lets hope he's healthy.

    Go Sox!

Hard to win a games if the offense is only going to score 1 run in 18 innings. Both Lester and Beckett pitched pretty well but the bats have definitely let this team down right now. Hopefully a trip back to Fenway will wake them up but it's looking more and more like it's not the Sox year.

I know the offense has been a team-wide problem through the first two games, but Ortiz in particular is looking like the useless sack of garbage that he was through May of this year. I distinctly remember a curveball from Weaver in the middle innings last night that Ortiz missed badly, which basically summed up his season.

I know everything is doom and gloom right now and I'm getting way ahead of myself but this team is going to have problems scoring runs next year too.

I think so big changes need to come next year. I don't know if we just look old at the plate or we are just tired. Seems like we are missing some type of fire in our bellies right now.

What a pathetic display all the way around in the DS.

They need to upgrade the offense in the worst way this offseason. Sell the farm for A-Gon.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thrilled that the series was ended on a Papelbon blown save.

Now we just need the Yankees and Phillies to lose and it'll be a successful postseason.

This comment would have meant a lot more if you didn't start showing up and posting in these threads since the playoffs started. I have a funny feeling you won't be back if the Yankees end up losing in the playoffs. It's ok though a lot of people come out of the wood work once their teams start doing well.

Hey every city has bandwagon fans once the team starts to win, it's just human nature to want to be linked to winners. Just look at Tampa Bay last year, and this year they barely had an attendance spike. When the Yankees were bad in the late 80s, early 90s there was no one at the games, now they draw over 3 million people each year, same with the Red Sox. It happens and is annoying to the real fans but whatever.

I know, no worries. I agree with the Sox and Yankees and also would include the Cubs and Cardinals. I would say the Dodgers too but they didn't even sell out Game 2 of the playoffs, that's a bad job by them.

  33. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

Dodgers, once again, led the majors in paid attendance this year. We are labeled as bad fans, but we really aren't. Is Boston's stadium was as big as L.A.'s they wouldn't have the amount of sellouts that they do. To fill Fenway, it takes less than 40,000 fans. To fill Chavez Ravine (the largest capacity park in the majors) is 56,000. And even more come playoff time.

Combine that with an afternoon game time during the work week and you are looking at a recipe for a non sellout. I believe they still had over 50,000 at the park for game two, so while not a sellout, the numbers were still pretty good.

Don't assume that the Red Sox wouldn't sell out a 50k plus seat stadium. Even with a park that holds less than 40k, they still draw well over 3 million which is impressive.

Anyway I never said that the Dodgers had bad fans all I said it I don't think you can group them as die hards because I'm sorry, and you can make all the excuses in the world, but not being able to sell out a playoff game is a poor job for any team. Especially for a team that has a long history like the Dodgers do. I could understand if the Rockies or Rays have problems selling out because people in those cities don't care about baseball but the Dodgers have no excuse.

ive been a fan of the Yanks since they were playing in Shea Stadium  I was just adding to the atmosphere. A Red Sox loss isnt complete until an obnoxious Yankees fan reminds them of the loss. It goes both ways. Ive had to hear it from Red Sox fans when you guys won it all. You have to admit that when it comes to our teams the next best thing to winning it all is seeing the other one lose. Comes wiith the territory. I think it was in paragraph five of the Yankees fans handbook they gave me when I was six. anyway, no hard feelings. you just need to retool the way we did. you'll be back

There's no hard feelings at all and I never said you weren't a real Yankee fan or whatever. All I was stating is that it's kind of hard for you to talk crap here when you were nowhere to be found all season or even last season when the Yankees didn't make the playoffs.

But hey if you want to rub it in you're allowed too, it comes with being fans of these teams, like you said.
