I am in the process of building a PC that will be used primarily for video editing, special effects, and possibly some 3D work... So programs like Premiere Pro, After Effects, and possibly Blender... of course Photoshop will be involved too. I'd love to get some input from the PC gurus... and if someone tells me to buy a Mac... I swear..... Anyways, here it is.. I didn't add a few things (mouse, keyboard, etc.) that I didn't felt were necessary to go over: Tower Case (COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068 2 Internal Harddrives (SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181 Motherboard (ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398 Graphics Card (EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339 Power Supply (CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 DVD Drive/Burner (SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223B) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151187 2 LCD Monitors (Acer X193W+BD Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009127 Memory (G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253 CPU (AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HDX945FBGIBOX) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103675
Hey I already told you what I can tell you about the power supply.. and it looks to me like everything else fits in with each other. You will also need to put into account which OS you want to run. Since it's for editing I'd say Windows, so you have to add that, too. And, unfortunately, the money that goes along with it.
Luckily I can get Windows 7 for $30 for being a college student... so I should be OK as far as the OS goes.
I have the same case for my desktop, I love it. The CPU is the only thing I'm not a fan of. I prefer an Intel Quad over AMD. Which of course means a different mobo, but ASUS is a great choice.
Is there a reason for you picking Intel over AMD or is it a classic case of the AMD/Intel war? ie. is performance better?
No, it's actually a case of Intel CPU's performing better than AMD's. http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts/Adobe-Photoshop-CS-4,1387.html http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CS4,1404.html Two adobe programs you mentioned you will be running.
You're right, but as a college student... AMD is a better option. Intel is completely overpriced, IMO.
im looking at your motherboard and your graphics card seems your graphics card is sli capable but your motherboard is crossfire capable. Might want to check into getting a crossfire graphics card or a sli capable motherboard so later on you can add another graphics card and run two in parallel.
Might want to check the power supply 12V rail to the video card to make sure that there's enough amperage. I think eVGA has the required current on their website. Not having sufficient power can make the video card run at a lower bus speed, and thus you won't get the full performance out of the card.
+1 If your going into a career in graphics/video, thats the way to go. Not trying to be a SA, I have a degree in Graphic Design and I'm close to getting a 2nd degree in Computer Support/Networking. Obviously its your preference though, the parts you have picked out look like a solid start in addition to what everyone else mentioned.
It's personal preference. I've heard everyone give their two cents as far as the Mac/PC debate.... whether you're into networking, graphic design, computer science, film, etc.
