I think that he can, but I also think that if Ronnie Brown is re-signed, he will overtake both Csonka and Williams.

if Ricky decides to do it, he will do it
as things stand, we have the best RB
Tandem in the NFL, running behind
    the Orca-5

more important to win games

Oh no, not the Orca-5 again :pity:

    Just kidding Rio :tongue2:

IF Ricky hadn't had his life-fade era, he would have already killed every record Zonk had, however, remember that Zonk was really a Fullback.

Ricky is already (and has always been) a better back than Czonka.

Ronnie is much more talented than Larry, and can probably surpass most of the stats if he gets resigned.

IMO if Ricky hadn't had the burnout he could have been one of the greatest runningbacks of all time. According to his schedule Ricky only has this year and next to catch Zonk and as a complimentry back I don't think he can do it.
I hope Ronnie has a long career with the Dolphins and I think he can catch both Zonk and Ricky if he stays.

I think Czonka left his fame in Miami and probably his fortune too with the WFLs folding. If he had stayed with the supporting cast he had in Miami he could have probably doubled his fame and fortune and a couple more Super Bowls.
The fame he enjoys now is from his Dolphins career not his WFL career.

Once again, Larry was really a Fullback.

Ricky had a very good chance of breaking ALL the records, not just Zonk's, and perhaps couldve gone down as the best ever.

not over until the fat lady sings:
    1) see the 40 QB light up the game last night? Or how about the last SuperBowl?
    2) the new Ricky looks to have lost very little in the power & speed department.
    3) he's well rested & suffered no serious injuries in his career
    4) he is the RealDeal, a Once in a Decade RB, the Beast of the Second Half & Franchise RB.
    5) do not underestimate his come-back as a premier RB in the NFL

Run Ricky Run  & Ronnie too!
the Tandem from Hell will burn turf behind the blocking of the Orca-5. :taz:
It has been written & so shall it be.

By Ricky's 5th year in the league, he hit the 1,000 yards rushing mark 4 times! i believe he ran almost 1900 yrds in a season, 12th most in NFL HISTORY!

Wasn't it because he was making 30k per year and wanted a raise to 50k, Kenny? I really can't recall but those numbers sound correct. What ever the numbers were, I think Joe Robbie should have met them. It caused the collapse of our dynasty.

Miami is all about running the ball & doing it in tandem w/ outside help thrown into the mix

we have the best RB Stable in the NFL

& the Orca-05 will rate in the top 5 elite offensive line units by the end of the season

just a reminder: haven't even begun to exploit/develop the WildCat with Pat White.
maybe we'll see something Monday night, since the jet defense seems to think they have it figured out.

tremendous potential just now coming to the surface. remember, this is only year two of the re-building.

IMO RW can't be the best back in Dolphin history b/c I place a large value on team success. RW is more talented than Czonka and should eclipse him by a bit in total yards but you'd have to be a lot better to overcome the championships. Much like Marino did. Griese has the rings but Marino was far and away so much more productive that it makes Marino the best Dolphin QB ever.

RW doesn't have that. Despite all the talent he showed, RW really only had one great year and one good year. Other than that the most memorable part of his career here is his quitting. With Zonk the quitting is a footnote.

    Apples and Oranges, Folks...

When comparing the two, we have to remember that the football running game in the 70's was a world different than today. There were two running backs playing full time in the 70's, and most of the time in the Dolphins case, it was a very good RB - Mercury Morris or Jim Kiick. Csonka was a fullback, which means to the uninitiated (as in, not having seen fullback play other than a blocking/pass catcher) that Csonka was the running back whose primary duty was to run inside for the tough yards. Both backs were in for almost every play and ran and blocked almost equally - except most of the time the FB went between the tackles, and the RB when outside the tackles. They alternated that routine somewhat, but that was the norm. For Csonka, an outside run meant that he usually was going to just miss the outside hip of the tackle - and Heaven Help the next person he met. Oh, and Larry Csonka catching a screen pass was something else to behold.

It would be as if the Giants decided to have both Jacobs and Bradshaw on the field in 2/3 or the offensive plays, and only two wideouts - and concentrate on sending Jacobs up the middle and Bradshaw everywhere else - most of the time. Which do you prepare for - inside, outside, or a pass.

Today, Williams and Brown mostly alternate, and neither one of them is a fullback in the classic mold. They are both power runners, but they are not fullbacks. They will both look for a hole in the offensive line blocking. Csonka did not look for a hole - he run up the offensive lineman's backside if there was not one, and he did not dance in the backfield. That is fullback play. We don't have any real fullbacks in the league that I can think of at this time. 'Tis a pity.

Csonka didn't just run at you, he ran through you. One of the baddest, toughest SOB's to ever don a uniform and tote the rock. Y'all can talk about comparisons all you want. But, like RevRick points out...it was a different game back then. It really is an apples and oranges comparison.

Nonetheless, I'd take Csonka over Williams every day and twice on Sundays. Dude was a beast. And, he never quit!

Czonka punished people and left bodies in his wake. Czonka made his own holes he didn't wait for holes to open up. I am old enough that I actually saw Czonka play and it was a site to behold and you could hear the contact in the stands at the Orange Bowl.

Let's not confuse stats with greatness.

Those who know me know I've always said that if Ricky had kept his head on straight, he could have been one of the greatest RBs in history.

That said, Csonka was an integral part of three Super Bowl teams; Ricky has not accomplished anything close.

I think Ricky could, but if he does there will be an asterisk associated with it just because of his leave of absence. I know that was a crappy thing he did, but he did come back to us and is really helping. He could have hung it up forever, but instead he came to prove that wasnt him and I really like that out of him.

i think it's a bit ridiculous to compare the teams the two players were on. of course Ricky never had the team success Larry did, the talent around him isn't even close. unfair to compare them in that regard
