Hey everyone!! I am curious on what would be a good coach for Miami to have in the future if there was an opening for coaching. Should we pursue Dan Marino since he has all the history and all the passing records or should we get Chad Pennington who pretty much mentored the quarterbacks that are here? I want yout thoughts on this. Let me know what you are thinking.
Pennington no question. The great ones are always ****ty coaches. (See: Wayne Gretzky, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Alan Trammel, etc)
dont think marino would be a good qb coach. he would probably tell henne. hey there was a guy double covered thirty yards downfield. Why didnt you throw it in between the two defenders? answer: because I'm not marino
Marino as OC: Dan: Ok Chad, on this play you're going to pump fake one way, then fire it 65 yards down the other sideline, hitting the guy in stride. Henne: Are you ****ing serious?! Dan: JUST DO IT!!!! Henne: OK!... Jeez.
Exactly, when asked by Bill Walsh about how he goes through his progressions, Marino replied with "I just throw it to the open guy." One of the reasons Bill Walsh thinks he was the best QB of his time and why I think he would not make a good quarterback coach.
Yeah, besides...Dan ain't leaving his TV gig anytime soon IMO. The camera likes him, and he's probably making a s**tload of money doing it. Didn't he renege on a coaching position right after he retired (once he realized what he was committing to)?
He was Senior Vice President of Football Operations for the Dolphins for about a month in 2004 but decided it wasn't the job for him and quit.
I doubt Pennington coaches here in the near future. I would assume it would be at the HS level in WV.
Love Marino as the greatest player ever in Dolphins history but I think I would take Pennington as a coach. Marino had an amazing arm and definitly made the most of his talent but Pennington was smart enough to blend in with the talent on hand and make the most of his talent and limited arm. I just don't think Marino wants to be a coach.
I personally would like to see Pennington as QB Coach. I don't know if it would happen but I would like to see it.
Dan Marino would be the worst QB coach ever. Ever! I think it was Damon Huard, who said he once asked Dan for advice. Dan told him, "find your guy and let her rip"
It would be like having Barry Sanders coach a runningback. He would have a running back getting tackled for 50 yard losses. Marino was just too talented to try and coach someone who would never come close to his talent.
def. pennington, he is familiar with the quarterbacks we currently have on the roster and knows their strengths/weaknesses
I would really like having Pennington as our QB coach and hey who knows. Maybe he could be a future OC. Pennington is the guy everyone wants to root for and he would be great to have stay in South Florida.
