We are 1st in the NFL running for 183.5 yards per game at a 5.0 yards per carry average. We are 2nd at stopping the ball allowing only 61.0 yards per game at only a 2.9 yard per carry average.
And we're going to need to do both of those things very well in order to beat the jets . Henne will need all the help he can get.
The Fins are making progress, they just need to shore up a few positions on defense and WR, TE position on offense. The jury is still out of Henne as far as I am concerned.
Yeah, but Jaws just said on MNF that the Vikings are the #1 rushing offense and defense. Jaws always speaks the truth right? I mean, stats are misleading.. just because we're averaging the most yards gained and 2nd fewest given.... right?
yep. week 4 isn't complete yet. the vikes should have a pretty commanding lead after they get the week 4 game under their belts after MNF. But we're still pretty freaking good in this category.
Actually at game time, we had a 303 yard advantage on them We're the only team over 700 yds.........at 734 The Vikes started tonight at 431 yards....143.7 ypg
Going into tonights game the Vikes had given up more rushing yards then we have (244 to 276). We have given up the third most yards 244 behind AZ (239, in three games) and Baltimore (238). We are 2nd to Balt by 1.5 yards per game (.5 yards per game ahead of Pitt) On offense, we are 17 yards per game more than the Saints. Minnesota was 303 yards behind us going onto the game.
Really like the repetition our OL is getting, with effective run blocking week after week, improving chemistry, familiarity in dominating the LOS, and hopefully, the confidence to expect nothing less. Just how much of this recent production on the ground relates directly to DeGuglielmo, remains a mystery, but if his area of expertise, involved grooming the league's premier offensive line, perhaps we can assume his job will involve pinning their ears back, and taking them to the next level.
We might be 31st in pass defense but then we have played the #1 and #2 passing teams in the NFL. 1) Colts, 330.2 yards per game. 2) Chargers, 295.5yards per game.
Sunday was a sort of glimpse at the type of team they are trying to build, once the run is stopped their philosophy is to attack the passer but we really had not been doing that well. After all, as LUG points out, we faced the top two passing attacks in the NFL and I'd bet Atlanta is in the mix in the top 12 as welll. As for the Jets game, their passing offense is really quite poor, statistically almost as weak as ours at #27, their running offense is ranked #10, with Jones averaging less than 4 ypc, for all the negativity about our chances we really may fair quite well against the Jest on MNF, with the caveat being Henne must hang onto the ball and avoid those turnovers. A fumbling Henne is death to our chances against the Jest: http://www.advancednflstats.com/2008/11/value-of-sack.html
