I agree, the Home Plate umpire said that Posada's elbow was a cheap shot, but Carlson was in the wrong position, and he knew it. Carlson not stupid, he knew if he stayed at the position he was at, Posada would do something, and he did... Posada is just lucky that someone like A-rod, Damon, Cano did not get hurt...

Well Yankee Bob Watson strikes again, Posada gets only 4 games for the brawl and fined 3k (so did Carlson). To put it in perspective Kevin Youkilis and Rick Pocello got suspended 5 games each back in August for that 'brawl'. And last year Coco Crisp got 7 games for the Red Sox/Ray brawl. Just saying.

I'm not complaining (well I guess I am) but I know it will never happen with Bud as commiss but these suspensions have been very unbalanced and uneven for a long time now.

EDIT: Posada's suspension has been reduced to 3 games after he agreed not to appeal it. How the hell is that fair? And has that ever happened? Having a suspension reduced in exchange for agreeing not to appeal. Unreal.

Walk of win number 14, ironicly enough, by the man who replaced Posada, Cervelli

We been playing sloppy and the red sox have been on fire, but i will say i still think we hold off and win the division, and i am glad we got cold before playoffs start, i mean its better now then at the playoffs, i just hope they pick it back up now, because we need to find ways to beat the angles, and well, the red sox series could determine who wins the east, so imo Playoffs start early...

Ah I don't know, I think the division race is over. The Yankees are up what 5 games in the L column with less than 15 games left to go? That's a lot of ground to make up. I think the Red Sox are starting to back off their starters now, going with a 6 man rotation this week (depending on Wakefield, it might be until the end of the season). I do think it's important for the Yankees to play well this week especially against the Angels. Really all they need to do is win 1 game against the Sox.

If I were a Yankee fan I think you have to be really worried about the pitching rotation after Sabathia. Burnett is either great or bad. Pettite is a question mark now. And really there's no real reason why Joba should start a playoff game on this team right now, but the problem is the other options aren't much better (although Gaudin might not be a terrible option and the Yankees should at least let him have a shot at winning the job). Of course they might only need a 4th starter 2 times during the playoffs, during the LCS and WS if they get that far.

The playoff PEN will be fine with Joba moving there. Best record will give Yanks the ability to grab the extra day and go with 3 man rotation. I will be happy to roll CC, Burnett, and Pettitte as that 3 man and deep Pen with Joba and Hughes and Rivera.....

More important that the 3 man rotation is our hitters come playoff baseball. I just want our Bats to stay productive and continue to hit with RISP! without that, doesnt matter about our arms really.

Ok but that's just with round 1, you'll need a 4th starter in the next 2 rounds. And what makes you think moving Joba to the pen will automatically turn him into the pitcher he was in 2007? He hasn't been pitching well for 2 months and his velocity has been in the low 90s. I doubt Girardi will give him the ball in a big spot.

I am not worried about the Playoff Arms...they will be fine...its the Bats.....the last few Playoff exits have been Bats related....not Arms specifically. CC, Burnett, Pettitte have to do their job, no doubt, but the PEN is deep and will help.

Its the Bats....as long as they dont slumber and tank I will worry about round 2 when that arrives. At that point, we have options for 4th arm! The days off will keep us in the proper rest mode leading to that.

If Det is round 1 and our Bats produce we will be fine with rest heading to round 2 and rotation.

Yeah i am confident with our pitching, and worried about our hitting for the reasons mention above, last few playoffs games we were terrible with the bats. I just hope they start getting hot again, which i expect to happen during the red sox series, and once playoff time comes, im really pulling for the red sox to beat the Angles, we are terrible against the angles...

Congrats to the yankees on making it to the playoffs! I think its safe to say they will win the division with todays win, which was not pretty btw, and the red sox loss. I am glad we come back home after tomorrow, we need to start heating back up!

Yanks playing very solid ball once again.....need this momentum into and through the playoffs, we are facing and handling top notch pitching lately. Not getting ahead of ourselves, working counts, putting balls in play and set up counts to hammer mistakes. Our own staff is contributing and the pen is getting stronger.

Magic # is down to 1....following taking the 1st two games vs. Sox. Can clinch Div tomorrow.

    Keep the bat mojo going.......

It's all but official, the yanks look like they will take the division crown! CC has been LIGHTS OUT ever since the game back in boston where he threw 8 shutout innings, him pitching this well in the playoffs will be huge, i also hope he gets 20 wins!

Arod's bat means more that CC's arm.

It wont be slam dunk...but give me decent 6 innings out of CC, AJ, and AP and the Pen is shaping up nicely to be dominant for 3 inn. a game....and most importantly our Bats not tanking in the playoffs (*cough*AROD*cough*) and yes we can accomplish that 1st elusive title in the 21st Century!!!

Well, we have a great chance to chrisen the NEW Yankee Stadium this year.

After dropping the first 8 games vs. Sox to start the year.....then to rip off 9 out of the final 10 to end the h2h series at 9-9.....AMAZING.

And to Clinch the Division Crown with 3 game sweep of SOX!!!!!!!!!

Woot!!!!!!!!!!!.....100 wins....home field throughout the playoffs!!!

CONGRATS to the 2009 AL EAST Division Champions NEW YORK YANKEES

now focus on the playoffs and keep the momentum going......:hi5:

what A-rod did today was simply amazing, He needed 2 hr and 7 RBI's to keep his streak of 30 Home runs and 100 RBI's alive, and he did just that, in one inning, insane

He better (and I actually think he will for some reason) keep his Bat going in the playoffs, from opening round to WS....he and CC will step up this post-season, it all just feels different, and I see no reason to think otherwise with this team from Locker Room, Dugout, to the Diamond

this series is the series i am most worried about, because if a team wins game 1, they have huge momentum, wished it was a best of 7 games but i am glad we got the first game!

I'm surprised the Twins worry you. They don't have a single pitcher outside of Joe Nathan who can shot down the Yankee offense. If I were a Yankee fan I'd be doing back flips that you're facing the Twins.

tell me about it! This is a great way to start the playoffs, i mean we lose this game we are tied going in Minnesota and have a chance of coming home for good! now we are guaranteed to come home and play another game at the stadium! It can't get any better if you are a yankee fan! man i am so pumped right now! Base loaded and 0 outs and we get out of it without getting a double play, amazing... 3 MVP of this game, in this order, A-rod, Robinson and Tex, i mean without robinson getting us out of that inning we lose, no doubt about it

Wow the Twins gave that game away about 12 times tonight (not like it ultimately matters because there's no way the Yankees are going to lose this series anyway). My only question is what the hell was the LF ump looking at on Mauer's ball in the 11th or 12th. How did he miss that play? Why even have outfield line umps if they're going to screw that one up. Again it doesn't matter but the umping in these playoff games have been beyond awful.

Its a shame games at this level, at this point in the season have crap calls, etc.

Yanks up 2 is nice. Close it out and put the final dagger in. Then sit back and enjoy if its LAAOA or BRS. Either way one opponent you dont want to face is gone, and then reality sets in and you have to eliminate the other to get to the WS which is all that matters.

P.S. Very happy for AROD and need him to sustain throughout to get the monkey off his back.
