that really sucks! But I'm glad we kept Hilliard on the team. plus maybe Ginn will get more chances to take it to the house in the kick return game. I hope the best for Cobbs. Get well soon buddy!

Well, Lex Hilliard is an "i'll do whatever it takes" kind of guy, so we'll see if he gets on the field. Also, maybe Pat White sees more time now.

good call on the kick returning! I can't believe it's gonna take an injury for the coaching staff to have Ginn return kicks...

Actually it might be a blessing as messed up as it sounds. Cobbs has looked super bad on KR and we saw when Ginn came in the difference. Also if Ginn is the one on that turn around he does not get tackle. Now maybe we see what Ginn can do in the Wildcat and remember he has played QB.

It still sucks Cobbs is gone I love the little guy.

Devastating blow to the offense and special teams.

I seriously doubt Lex Hilliard can fill the void.

That sucks. I love Patrick Cobbs. He's become a do it all type of player for us.

Going to miss his speed in the Wild Cat, so hopefully we can get Teddy into the mix there.

The 2009 Wildcat is primarily a power running formation, that removes all the QBs & WRs, and replaces them with power blockers. It has been successful this year because it has big maulers like 270 lb Joey Haynos wearing down on 190 lb DBs.

I would rather see Lex Hilliard take Cobbs' spot in the Wildcat. Lex would add to the power blocking, while Ginn would not.

    Not good news. :(

His role is pretty much unreplaceable right now. I think this changes our Wildcat playbook by a tad.

It has been interesting seeing the four running back Wildcat formation (Ronnie, Ricky, Cobbs and Polite). Not sure if Hilliard can play the passing back that Cobbs is/was. But perhaps someone like Bess can take that role as he isa similar type player.

Good to hear about Ricky (never thought I would say that...)

You think that 240 lb Lex Hilliard is worse at blocking than 205 lb Patrick Cobbs?

I agree, but I still think it's being set up for a big play down the field eventually. Probably a toss back to the QB or something.

Well, since Cobbs is probably gone for the year, are there any good RBs we can pick up from free agency?

With Hilliard, you get another back similar to Ronnie/Ricky.

With Cobbs, you lose that speedy, change-of-pace type back. He brings different elements to the package and the game in general.

Remember last year when we were struggling to throw after some injuries at WR? Cobbs stepped into the slot role and started catching passes over the middle.

He's just a do-it-all kind of player. Do not understate his importance to the team.

Perhaps Allen Rossum is in the cards now.

The 2009 Wildcat generally does not have a QB on the field.

Ideally, I wish we could get someone like 225 lb Michael Robinson to take Cobbs' spot.

    - He played QB in college (Penn State), so we know he can throw.

    - He plays RB/FB for the SF 49ers, so we know he's fairly durable, and can run & block.

    - He's a backup, so we could probably get him for cheap.

The 2008 Wildcat is completely different than the 2009 Wildcat.

The 2008 Wildcat has Pennington & WRs on the field.

The 2009 Wildcat generally removes all QBs & WRs, and replaces them with big maulers like Joey Haynos.

Cobbs' role in the 2009 "Mauling Wildcat" formation has been primarily as a run blocker. Of all the Wildcat plays this year, I think Cobbs only touched the ball twice.

This is disheartening. I really like Cobbs.

What Hilliard will give us as a replacement is a style more like our starters, Ronnie and Ricky.

What we lose with Hilliard is change-of-pace.

It might be a blessing to finally have Ginn on KR where he belongs. But i don't think people seem to realize how crucial Cobbs is for the Wildcat. I'm hoping maybe Hilliard can take his spot, but we shall see. Maybe White or Thigpen on the field with Ronnie taking the snap? IDK, could be interesting though.

There is no one player or even any group of players that can replace Pat Cobbs and bring the things he brings to the game.

while i think Cobbs was very important to the offense as a change of pace, 3d down and long, coming out of the backfield type RB (which we have no backup plan for) ... i don't view his effect on the WC at all. We have options to take over his blocking responsibilities there to include Nalbone, Hilliard, etc ...

i will not be surprised to see us sign someone fairly quickly this week ... but he will not be easily replaced.

Hilliard will bring more of a punishing aspect to the game.
    Sorry to see Cobbs out.
noticed both Ricky & Ronnie took some big shots last night
that caused them to limp away quietly off the field
good that we have the by-week coming up

Cobbs was Mister everything. He could play the RB, FB, Slot Reciever, KR and he was one of our key ST players. He will defitnetly be missed on Speacial Teams.

Still, for Cobbs, its a real tough break. Hopefully, he's good to go next year!

Hope we hear good news. Sporano gushes about this guy, and we see why every week. He's a gamer, and puts it on the line for this team. It would be a shame to lose him even for only a few games, let alone the season

Yeah, I agree. I think Cobbs would have been able to step in and mend the damage some, but with him out now we need to be extra careful with our RBs, our depth just got seriously cut :(

Well, when a team plays a tougher, more physical schedule, players tend to get hurt because they are playing on the edge of their athletic potential.

PCobbs was and is a class act, I'd suspect a full recovery.

As for who could replace him, well, as much as I like Rossum and Justin Miller, we still need a 3rd runningback as well.

yea I think they will go out and get a playmaker to take Cobbs spot. Hilliard wont be able to run the end around on the wildcat like Cobbs and Im not sure his hands are where Cobbs were either.

Sucks to see him go down though.
