Makes sense, Fergie has access to friends in the music business whom she could invite to the games to sit in the luxury box and appear on the orange carpet before the games.

Smart move, you can tell Ross takes his marketing seriously.

I really wonder if all of this is necessary?

I totally understand about the atmosphere, etc., but what are their say in boardroom meetings? I wonder how much of the business side will be influenced?

I understand Ross is trying to make Miami the LA Lakers of football, and he might just be onto something, but I just wonder how much this will affect "everything"?

I would not know the first thing about running a business, but maybe some of y'all can kind of elaborate if you are in "the know".....

It's all about AIS: Asses in seats.

    And merchandising.

    And advertising.

Simply put, it's about making money. But it's also about creating an atmosphere and an aura around the team. We're all hardcore fans here, but what hardcore fan DOESN'T want the games to be as electric as possible? What hardcore fan wouldn't want Dolphin games to be considered 'the place to be'?

We're all prideful about this team. And we want them to be the best in every way. We may not all like Jerry Jones, but you gotta respect what he's done with the Cowboys. They are truly an iconic franchise. They're always playing in primetime. Ross wants to get the Dolphins there too. And he has the uncommon advantage of being in South Florida.

Granted, the team has to be competitive first and foremost. No amount of marketing can overcome that. Just like the game itself; it all starts in the trenches. Fortunately that aspect of the team is well on its way. ;)

Anyway, none of the business side will be influenced. These are minority partners. Ross will maintain majority stake. He will call the shots.

And I totally get his reasoning in the "AIS" dept. (nice acronym, btw), but I am just a little curious as to how/if that will affect some of the "business" decisions?

I recently saw the documentary of Gretzky's trade to the LA Kings and how that affected the environment (AIS). Big time players in the movie biz were flocking to Kings games naming them their new darling. And, albeit, I think Ross is up to something (what better atmosphere than Miami?), I just wonder if these people will have any say?

It makes sense on Ross' part to bring in high-profile names to partner with him, and it seems to be working, but I hope this is a long-standing trend (AIS again) rather than a fad.

Any "new" Miami fan could look at this and think, "Wow, Fergie is an owner? I am going to purchase a Dolphins jersey!", and that helps with marketing. Also, having a good Latino base makes perfect sense given the locale.

This could be a great thing, even for the fans of pop culture whom inevitably becomes fans of the team because of the owners. We'll see....

I think its great personally! I mean last nights game was the loudest ive seen it in a long time, and there were a lot more dolphin fans then Jets, so i think its great! You got to give credit where credit is due, and Ross has done a hell of a job staying out of Parcells way and just worrying about the entertainment factor!

I honestly can't say because I wasn't physically at either game.

But as someone who was debating going to both of them (the drive ultimately did me in), I have to admit it didn't hurt. And I'm not a celebrity person. It just added to the buzz of this game. Kinda like when they show celebs ringside before a big fight. It gives the impression that these busy people who could be anywhere else in the world tonight, chose to be here. Creates sort of a gravitas.

Alonzo Mourning was one of my favorite athletes. If he were in the building on Monday night, I'd want to be too. If after Henne made that throw to Camarillo and they showed Zo on the jumbotron reacting, that would get me fired up.

I think it helps much more when you're winning than anything else. Everybody loves a winner. And having these personalities in the mix adds to the hype.

'AIS' is from an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, which explains why it was good.

Anyway, the new owners have little/no actual say. These are very small percentages of ownership. One area where some do have a voice is in other deals between them or their interests and the team (like Fergie).
