Our offense has been TERRIBLE, we are relying on the pitching way to much, and quite frankly, if we did not have it, we would not be up 2-1. We also caught so many breaks... We need to do more then hit solo home runs, we need to score with runners in scoring position...We are also lucky that the angles have not been hitting either

one thing yankees have been great at all year is situational hitting... So far i have yet to seen it this series

If you leave California up 3-2 I will consider the remote possibility that we lose. Home field, Sabbathia in the next game up 2-1, I see no reason to be worried. The first games of road trips across the country should always be losses. Lets see how game 4 turns out

The Angels tried everything they could to give yesterday's game away. They've been playing like they're being sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds and Buttermaker is their manager all series. The series could easily be 3-0 Yankees or even 2-1 Angels. Today's game is key the Angels have to win if they want to have a chance. I don't see them or really any team beating the Yankees 3 straight.

any road trip across the country, the first game out is tougher due to the travel. You become acclimated by the 2nd game. Same thing happens in football. cross country road trips are alot tougher than 500 miles road trips

Sorry I just don't agree with that in this situation, nor have I ever seen a study that suggests a visiting team should always lose the first game in a cross country trip like you said in the post I originally questioned. Both teams had to travel to California and had a full day of rest. The Yankees were handed the game numerous times and couldn't close the door it had nothing to do with the travel, it was a mixture of not hitting with RISP and bad managing by Girardi.

gambling 101. never bet the road team on the first game of an east coast to west coast trip or vice versa. Agree on the hitting and bad managing but thats my point. we could have won this regardless of the travel. The travel tends to effect hitting in particular but there is no excuse for Girardi

Tonight was a slump-buster night.....wow!!!!!! Arms still dominate, and finally the bats joined the party with clutch hitting and putting constant pressure on the opposing arms and D.

    Nice to see.

Its a shame that hundreds of Angels fans were treated for burns at the game after being exposed to the blinding glare of awesomeness that is the Yankees.

Lol that people were actually worried about this series after our only loss of the playoffs in extra innings. Weve scored at least 4 runs every game in the playoffs and people are complaining that our bats are a concern. I agree. We should score at least 10 runs every game

i think we had a good reason to be worried, angles win today then it was 2-2...Like stated before it could easliy be 2-1 angles going into tonight, but im glad i was wrong... Yanks played great today! now if we win this series, who gets MVP? Without A-rod we lose game 2, but without CC game 1 and 4 are a different game... I would give the edge to A-rod but CC came through again! worth every penny!

CC as our number 1 is why I have no worries this year. Best pitcher in the playoffs period. All of our starters have under 3.00 ERAs in the playoffs and we havent scoredless than 4 runs in any game. This is going to be a cakewalk series run

 Now that we've transitioned successfully from the Joe Torre era we will make a run at five in a row. Would love to see ten in a row once in my lifetime berfore I die but I'll settle for five in a row Would love to cut the average down from one world series every 4 years to one world series every 3 years :tongue2:

Yeah that was pretty ******ed but why did Posada keep running to third? They both had a brainlock there. Think the leaving the bag early at thrid was a makeup call by the ump

well i thought the non tagging call was a makeup call for the pick off play at second... I mean i was not pissed the ump called Swisher out because he was out at second earlier...

 those are just the players that came from our farm, yeah we do spend a lot, but we proved many times, money does not buy you world series rings. This team has chemistry and thats why they are as good as they are... i honestly think Nick Swisher was one of the best pick ups just for that factor, he helped us in a big way for us becoming a team

BTW, its been over looked but Teixeira may not be hitting but his Glove is amazing... Imagine if we still had Giambi? He would not made half the plays Tex made... What an offseason for the Yankees had... CC lead up to expectations, Swisher exceeded them. AJ did what we brought him here for, Pettitte was great for us, and Tex, well Tex has an MVP season!

I know it didnt effect the outcome of the game but how bad was that umpiring last night? Swisher was picked off at 2nd they called him safe. Then he tags from 3rd and they say he left early and he didnt. Make up call... Then Napoli tags 2 guys clearly off third base and they dont give us the double play? It just frustrates me. Like I said it didnt effect who won or lost. I just think its terible they missed so many calls in such an important game. Angels definately have their work cut out for them now. Your line up is so good. Hope its a closer game tomorrow night.:hi5:

The umping has been absolutely beyond bad this post season. It's almost comical now. I mean there's no excuse to miss that Swisher play at 2nd. The 2nd base ump was right there watching the play. Or that fair/foul call on Joe Mauer's call in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Yankees? The two blown calls on the Red Sox in Game 1 against the Angels? Just pathetic, there's no excuse for those.

I'm not one for instant replay because the games take to long as it is but there definitely should be some changes next year whether its more umpire training, a change of who's in charge of the umps and even replacing the umps themselves.

Admittedly, I haven't watched much postseason baseball this year, but from what I've seen there's been more horrendous calls in this postseason than I can ever remember ('99 was pretty bad, too). CB Bucknor in the ALDS, and now last night. The Napoli play at 3rd base was an EASY call, ditto for the Swisher play at 2nd base. Didn't need replays in either instance, they were blatantly blown calls.

Its amazing how there's simply no consequences for sucking at such a high profile job. I understand the human element that goes into umpiring, but give me a break. I've seen amatuer umpires at little league games do a MUCH better job.

that call at third base where both runners should have been called out was quite possibly the worst call I have ever seen. Thank God it didnt effect the game

Yeah, looked bad from the get go, so wasnt expecting much, but to tie it and take the lead late, to only watch our normally trustworthy bullpen lose their control and throw meat-pitches while getting behind in the count to every batter, and to watch lack of clutch hitting in 8th and 9th that could have allowed us to end it in Anaheim makes this loss tough. How you throw a fat fastball to Vlad after his horrific curve ball hacks is beyond me.

None of us wants it to go 7. I agree Andy has to be on his game, and the Bats all need to work counts and level their swing for solid contact vs. Saunders.

Atleast maybe, just maybe, Tex is waking up!!!!

It wasn't so much that Hughes (who has been terrible this postseason) threw a fastball to Vlad it was that he missed his spot, instead of going up and in, he through one right down the center of the plate belt high. But I actually agreed with Tim McCarver he should have thrown him another curveball, especially since he was up on the count.

I also really don't understand Girardi's managing decisions at all in the past 2 or 3 games, although he's been overmanaging since the first game of the post season. In a tight spot in the 7th he's bringing in Marte over Coke? Why? Marte has been terrible all year but you're trusting him in the biggest spot of the season? Also why pitch Joba Chamberlain at all in a big spot too? He's been just as bad as Hughes has been the past 3 weeks and hasn't pitched well since July. Where's Robertson last night? He's been their 2nd best pitcher, don't you have to go to the hot hand in the bullpen, especially in October?

Don't even get me started on pinch running for Arod last night either, like I said in the Angel thread I was kind of rooting for the Yankees to tie the game up just to see Jerry Hairston playing 3rd base over Arod in the bottom of the 9th inning, because WFAN would be classic today (hell it still probably will be anyway). Right now Girardi looks and acts like a younger, skinner verison of Grady Little. He just seems lost in the dugout right now.

Yeah the umpiring has been horrible.....I think putting in "more experienced" umps is just putting a bandaid over the problem. They need to give each manager two challenges during a game where they can review any play other the balls and strike calls. I think this would be fair and would not delay the game too long. They could have a full-time ump whose only job would be to review these plays to make sure they got it correct. Good luck to the Angels/Yankees. My Phillies are ready. :shifty:

Yeah that or they could just hire people that don't suck at their job. I think it's more of an issue with the people they have and how well they do their job than using instant replays.

For the record I'm against the use of instant replays except for HR calls, using replays aren't as easy as people make it out to be, especially when their are runners on base for fair/foul calls or catch/no catch trap plays. I don't think you'll see replay expanded, I think we're going to see some umpire turnover this offseason.

Very good series (except for Umps).....going 6 was no easy task, as Anaheim always clawed and fought to stay in it.
