If you were the Raiders, how would you beat the Jets?

Well, on Sunday the Jets travel out to the West Coast to play the wildly inconsistent Oakland Raiders, a trip that normally is not successful for the Jets but the Raiders have been a down franchise for years now.

If I were Tom Cable, he could sucker punch Rex Ryan before the game breaking his jaw, which is sort of a mixed thing as the more Ryan talks, the worse the Jets play:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...rex_ryans_talk_show_is_not_helping_with_.html

The Jets are banged up with Lito Shepherd still nursing a quad injury and Cotchery still suffering with the Hammy injury, so If I were the Raiders I'd stick Ashmougha on Edwards taking away Sanchez's favorite target.

McFadden has been a dissapointment however Fargas and Bush both are having decent years running the ball, that should continue against a Jets Defense that finds itself without run stopper Kris Jenkins, anything to keep the ball out of JeMarcus Russel's hands would work, they probably should run the WC even though they typically don't run it just to keep Russel off the field, or heck, Russel is up around 300 pds, he could play Third Tackle on WC plays but he would probably still be sacked.

The Jets are a wounded team, losers of 3 in a row and traveling to the west coast, if Ellis and Seymour can apply pressure to Sanchez, if he tries to force the ball to Edwards Ashmougha will make them pay, leaving the running game, but I'm of the opinion that Thomas Jones at 31 will not be fully recovered from his 200 yd performance against the Bills, this means to me there is another upset in the making.

If the Jets cannot run the ball, and have no real passing offense, and their run defense is lessened with Jenkins out, the Raiders would be wise to limit Russel's chances to turn the ball over, if Russel has 1 turnover, or none, the Raiders can win this game.

I agree. This game is setting up nicely, and is exactly why I picked the Raiders to win yesterday in our weekly Pickem's contest at work. Especially when you tally everything up.

Let Ashmougha blanket Braylon all game, and let Seymour and the rest of that line bullrush just as they did against Philly. Put pressure on Sanchez and force him into throws he doesn't want to make. If Sanchez forces balls to Braylon like he did against the Bills...the Jets are in trouble with Ashmougha there. He will take one back to the invisible pool.

And like you said, Jets lost all of their west coast games last year, Oakland being one of those. Niners being another, and Seattle being another. All were bad teams last year.

And Richard Seymour said yesterday... "The Raiders are going to the Playoffs!!!". Oakland is flying high right now, and the Jets are on the plane ride west listening to "freefallin", watching Rex Ryan lypsinc.

If I were the Raiders, I would do what I said above, and like you said...try to limit what Russell does and put him in good positions to succeed. Run the ball with Fargas, and see if the Jets can stop the run now that Kris Jenkins is out! Move the chains, and keep Zach Miller involved in that offense. If the Raiders can do all this, I think they have a great shot at beating the Jets......

and winning me a lot of money!

The other factor going against the Jets is their lack of a passrush, even while blitzing, the Bills makeshift line held them to no sacks against Fitzpatrick.

Losing Jenkins means their passrush also is degraded, unless they bring corner blitzes, which is possible as Russel reads the field slowly, their front 7 is very pedestrian.

Wasn't Rex's brother the D Coord for Raiders and was passed up for Cable for the HC job? I hope the Jets perish on the west coast trip and fall even further!

Rob Ryan was Lane Kiffin's Def Cord and he was canned in the middle of the season iirc, he now works for the Browns.

Momentum is a funny thing. Before last Sunday most would have agreed that the Jets would not be slipping up in Oakland like they have previously because they are a more complete team on offense and defense. On top of that the Raiders were taking a pounding and very low on confidence.

It's amazing how things can change so quickly in the space of a couple of days. This now seems like a real trap game for a Jets team in free-fall and a Raiders team riding high after beating a good Eagles side.

For me, the Raiders need to run straight at the Jets with Bush and Fargas, who I fell are better equipped to beat the Jets than McFadden. In the process, not asking Russel to win the game.

Another really odd reason why the Raiders can win on Sunday:

Nothing to really comment on about that one, except maybe CA sunshine effects people differently...

It's easy, shut down the run and force Sanchez to try to throw near Asomougha or whatever his name is.

I think you game plan to get to Sanchez early and often.
Honestly, his confidence has to be pretty fragile right now. Get right after him and even if you don't sack him right away make sure you hit him. Get him mumbling to himself on the sidelines.

You win by benching Ja-Off-The-Marcus Russell (greatest nickname ever from a fox article) and putting ANYONE else in the game. I'm pretty sure I'd rather have Ronnie Brown at QB.

Won't matter unless we win, we face three tough games back to back to back.

Jets believe the Raiders are going to come out in man to man and put 8 men in the box to stop the run.

The Raiders beat the Jets by letting the Jets beat themselves.

The Raiders don't have the offense to put up a lot of points and the Jets defense is pretty good, so you have to play a very opportunistic game of football. Get short fields, take points when you can and make Mark Sanchez beat you. He is a rookie, on the road, coming off a HORRIBLE game. If things start going against him, it could get ugly.

Don't let Sanchez have early success, if the Raiders get down by 10 or 14 the Jets are just going to run the ball like they should have last week.

    Jets: 13 - Raiders: 12

With all due respect, the Jest defense is NOT that great, and without Jenkins got MUCH worse instantly.
That being said, the Raiders offense is terrible. Russell and McFattone are without a doubt the two biggest liabilities Alice Davis has aquired. Interestingly enough, I think they can still run on the Jests, just with Fargas and Bush instead.
Whoever wins the turnover battle wins this game, and I really think Dirty Sanchez struggles, Asoumughuiah gets a pick sic and Sext Rexy loses his girtle on the sidelines.

If I was betting, I would take the Jets to win big. The only thing that would scare me with this pick is the Jets are historically bad on the West Coast!

I'd take the Raiders in this one NJ, Asmougha on Edwards and the rest of the Wr corps banged up and Dustin Keller not really being a factor.

I just can't see the Raiders playing two good games in a row.

But like I said, the Jets always seem to lay an egg on the west coast.

But boy if they lose this game, talk radio will explode here in NJ!

Well, I've actually thought about this, Ashmougha on Edwards effectively closes down the down the field passing game, the Raiders did "okay" last season against the Jets with a healthy Favre at Qb so somehow, without L Coles and with Keller more or less a non factor, were is the Jets offense going to go?

Raiders like to run the ball, the Jets lost their best run defender in Jenkins, so they put more men in the box but Russel may be a poor Qb, his arm still works just fine, Lito Shepherd will be out of the game and the Jets Lb's on Zach Miller heavily favors Miller.

Really? I would have put him at left tackle, he has prototype size at close to 300 pds...

    Anywho:

Cotchery, Shepherd and Smith are all out for the game and they simplified Sanchez's offensive package, this game is shaping up to be interesting.

I'm thinking the Raiders will pull off the upset.

Seriously, even when Lito sheppard comes back, I am not sure he is an upgrade.
He has always been the guy that made it on ability alone and actually has very poor technique.
Well, I think much of his ability is gone. He looked absolutely terribly in pre-season.

Dangit AZ, u just ruined my insightful foreshadowing of why we will beat the Jets after we play the team from NO...

    :tongue2:

If there has been one thing that has stood out about the Jets so far, it is paper thin depth, D Lowery is a decent Cb, after him though, they really do not have anyone, ditto NT, they may end up playing the 4-3 with B Thomas playing DE, and he did not generate a passrush as a standing up OLB as DE things will only be even slower...

The Eagles are a better team than the Jest. I'd run the ball right down the Jest throats. I'd also have Wildcat plays planned, they obviously have issues stopping it. I think teams gave the Jest and Sanchez too much respect to start the season. Harass Sanchez and treat the Jest defense like....well...the Jest defense's of old and you'll beat them. They are a 3-0 team headed for 7-9, they aren't a good team. After we beat them you could tell Ryan was scared in the post game press conferences, he knew his team/defense weren't going to be able to do squat against good teams with good coaching.
