A different look at the Dolphins Saints game.

The Saints are 5-0 while we are 2-3, based on that fact alone we should lose, right? Not so fast, let’s take a look at the games we both have played against common foes. The Jets and the Bills, with the Saints next game against the Falcons, but more on that later.

The Saints beat the Bills 27-7 and we beat the Bills 38-10; the Saints beat the Jets 24-10 and we beat the Jets 31-27. Notice in both games we scored more points against these two common opponents. A small note concerning the scores, some here are separating the offensive points from the defensive points scored by us yet are not doing the same concerning the Saints. If you take away the two defensive scores against the Jets by NO then you have a 10 – 10 tie yet taking away the one defensive score we had against the Bills would still leave the score 31-10. What I’m saying here is that if you compare these two games we win by a greater score difference of a + 4 offensive points yet you add in the defensive scores and the difference becomes a – 3 points. Going by points alone we out scored the Saints by 18 points against these two common foes.

This all points to several things imho:

    1. We have a good chance to win this game if we play our type of FB.
    2. We must play error free and it would help if we get one or two turnovers.
    3. We have to keep everything in front of us against the Saints passing game.
    4. And we win the TOP

Just a side note concerning the Saints Jets game.

    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2009100409/2009/REG4/jets@saints

We can not let this happen or we will surely lose this game. Also take note that the Jets held the Saints to only 3 points in the first quarter, we must score first and it must be a TD in the first quarter.

I think we have a great chance to beat the Saints as long as we stay focused, don’t turn the ball over, and play our game.

** I wonder if the Saints aren’t looking ahead to the Falcons since they are the next team the Saints play after us.

We outscored them by 18 and we gave up 20 more points also.

Well, Sunday will also be humid with a chance of the infamous late afternoon monsoon hitting during the game.

I believe Sparano and the Staff hit their stride last week, or maybe against the Bills or Chargers.

HC Sparano will find a way to win this ballgame, and I really hope that monsoon hits as we are honoring the 1982 AFC Champion Dolphins this weekend, AJ Duhe can give JT some pointers on playing in the mud..

    Good post.

You have to hope that the Saints were more geared up for the Giants and will relax a bit after that big win.

That said, Brees apparently hasn;t forgotten that Miami has passed on him twice (once in the draft and again when he wanted to come here in Free Agency). He may prove to us that we made a mistake. I hope he isn't extremely highly motivated to beat us (well, more motivated than he ALREADY always is to win).

For us to win, imo, our pass rush has to get into his head and shake him up early. Very early. Like 1st Quarter we have to swarm him, hit him, smack him, tip balls and make him uncomfortable in the pocket.

That's an interesting breakdown. I haven't seen that yet. And I'm not going to try to counter with an alternate breakdown.

I've said here before that this game could go either way. You guys have a really good team and a couple of fantastic running backs.

That said, I'd like to make a couple of points:

*The Saints are not looking past the Dolphins. True Atlanta is the more meaningful game and a loss to the Phins has no bearing on tie-breaker scenarios. BUT, Sean Payton has come out publicly saying he thinks you guys will win the division and are a VERY tough opponent. Plus Atlanta is nipping at our heels in the division race. We can't afford to overlook anyone.

And that's a good for you, because if you guys win, you'll have earned it.

*I'm not sure this breakdown is all that meaningful frankly for three reasons: 1. I'd expect you to play your divisional oppenents with greater "point success" than us. Familiarity goes a long way. 2. The Saints have continually improved each week and are playing at a really high level. 3. Matchups. It's all about matchups. In this game, our defense versus the wildcat; our offense versus your safeties. And I feel good about both.

*The Giants win was not an "emotional" win. A big and important win, yes. But not emotional. The Saints will be up for the Phins.

As always, I respect your team and think it's going to be a great game. And probably closer than I'm comfortable with. :)

I feel comfortable with our offense, the wildcat in particular, against your D. BUT.......I am scared to death of your O. against ANY D. right now. Our D. hasnt figured it all out yet, BUT...........you never know.

    Mr.HolySmokes:

think of this not as a 100 meter race but a 400 meter relay:
    1) offense
    2) defense
    3) special teams
    4) game plan & coaching
& you have to participate in another country to run the race

    think about it

P.S. love the city of New Orleans, great food & endless entertainment; fun town, filled with friendly people.
    24/27-Miami  not so bad!

Um ok. You got me on that. I'm not sure what point you're making. If you're saying this is more than just wildcat and Drew Brees, I agree. Our special teams have been the most inconsistent phase of our team.

As far as game plan and coaching, I guarantee Sean Payton and Gregg Williams will be ready like Eisenhower and McArthur. Now player execution, that's another thing.

Land Shark will be a challenge, no question, though obviously we've been pretty good on the road.

Anyway, we'll see tomorrow won't we?

Eisenhower and McArthur were never on the same page
directing two completely different theaters of WW-II
fighting against different countries & enemies
requiring very different approaches to combat & winning
kind of like coaching two different teams in the NFL

you face a UnitedFront when you come to Miami
everyone is on the same page & very motivated

    your defense & special teams
have been weighed, measured & found wanting

you need 3 of the 4 to win & 3 of the 4 are suspect

just maybe that's your Achilles' heel  they're not on the same page

    we will see tomorrow.
I'm sure the game will live up to every expectation:

Ok. The Eisenhower/McArthur thing wasn't meant to be taken quite that literally. But whatever.

I won't talk smack on another team's board. So good luck tomorrow.

I agree that we need to get to Brees and disrupt his rithym...

but Brees is lifetime 0-3 against the Dolphins (when with SD) and has a 65% completion, 2 TDS, 5 INTS and a 5.4 YPA against them, can also add he has a career 65 QBR...

now I know he has the weapons that can hurt you, but I hope this Defense will keep them under control, and can get Brees with a new record out of here...that being 0-4...

    Well away from here
I say we just match our average of 81 yards per game rushing in the first half, and then let the chips fall where they may. If we get at half what the Saints give up for the game, then it will be an interesting game.

You know whats interesting? I saw the entire game last week between the Saints and the Giants. Brees has a big flaw, but I'm not going to mention it now. I'll come back after the game and let you know what it is. I have a feeling that I won't need to tell you after the game though.

    Everyone bleeds now.
