    lot of meaningless banter here

Our WildCat is in the initial stage of development
Phase Two w/Pat White just might be unleashed Sunday
Remember the Patriot experience in NE last year.
    anyway you look @ it
we have the #1 running game in the NFL

I agree. The point is when you say "The Saints give up 6.3 yards per wildcat" those are the plays you are talking about.

Right, I was of the opinion that the stat you quoted is very misleading.

I think the Dolphins will be successful running the WC against the Saints as long as they stick with it. The Saint's D is built similar to the Falcons in terms of size and speed. In that game the Dolphins ran successfully but not often. The Dolphins only ran 22 rushing plays in that game. Since then they have averaged 40 rushes per game. I think that was a lesson learned and the team will stick with the running game regardless.

The other lesson I hope was learned came from the Indy game. The team made two big mistakes in that one. One was the just the poor coverage by the safeties. That has improved each game since so hopefully that has been corrected. The other lesson though was that they weren't aggressive enough on offense. In that game the WC produced yards but not points. I have no doubt that the Fins can gain yards against the Saints, but if they are going to win they have to produce points as well.

To do that, I expect that we'll have to trust Henne to threaten the deeper parts of the field more often than CP did against the Colts. And we may have to go for it on a few 4th downs or at least make a real attempt on some 3rd and longs instead of settling for FGs.

I think that by shortening the game we can keep the Saint's offense under 30 points, but that still means that our offense has to be able to score about 30 or so to win.

I expect and hope that we'll see many early throws on first down. These will be short, quick, ball control type passes. Then we'll run the ball a lot on 2nd and 3rd down depending on down, distance and field position. These will attempt to limit NO's blitz package and draw the safeties up. Their LBs like to run, so we have to force them to stack and shed instead. Run right at them. Early on they may have success running around some blocks, but later in the game that should be tougher if we stick with the run. I want to end up running at least 55% of the time. We can't let Sharper roam. We need him having to worry about the run first. Henne will have to take advantage of that and make a few plays like he did against the Jets. Overall we need to score points. I don't expect to sack Brees much as he gets rid of the ball too quickly. But if we can be physical against their receivers maybe we can disrupt their timing and get a coverage sack or two. Or at least force him to throw some away.

That would be how I would approach this game.

    Friend Rafael:
    you're right on the money.
the only thing I would add
    is that the Orca-5
    hadn't come into their own
    when that game was played.

this is a much different team
    w/the OL devouring the trenches.

We are definitely gelling more on the OL but I worry that this type of DL is the sort that gives us trouble. We have a bunch of maulers that would love nothing more than to play their opponents in a phone booth. Their DL is made up of quick types that try to shoot gaps. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend Con's excellent discussion of this in his keys to the game posted on the home page.

No offenses to Reggie, but Brown vision of the field is superior which gives him a huge advantage...

I saw that game and the Saints only played with 7 in the box when the Eagles had a wildcat set.

I am sure that Greg Williams their DC will have a different game plan. So you can't just go by what happened against Philly.. Although I think the Dolphins will definitely get their yards.. No one understands the wildcat, and how to block effectively in it, with all the misdirections and angles, than the Dolphins.

Your right. The whole basis for the Wildcat was to put the ball in the best players hands and to get as many good ball players on the field as you can at the same time. The Saints don't have a shortage of good offensive ball players. And with Brees being probably their best, it would be dumb to take it out of his hands. I don't see the Saints doing to much of any type of Wildcat for that reason alone.
