One of the things that I love about being a dolphins fan is we still manage to keep our heads up even when we have a bad loss, such as the Saints loss or the Colts loss.

Two stinging defeats, but just two losses, let's have some perspective on this:

-We lost Will Allen for the season, as much as I like Vontae Davis, he know will be thrown into the fray, two rookie Cb's who have to learn quickly.

-"yes" Gibril looked poor on that dance with Shockey, but overall he did have a decent enough game.

-JT looked great, keep in mind Brees had only been sacked 4 times all year and our defense sacked him multiple times.

-Ted Ginn the current goat, did have 100 yds in return yardage and was a clear upgrade over P Cobbs

-Ricky Williams is playing at a really high level right now, that long TD run was a thing of beauty.

-Chad Henne, what can be said, his learning curve is still there, he has thrown 3 pick 6's in four games, but there is no doubt he is the starting Qb.

-The teams we've lost to are a combined 16-4, and we were in every game until the final minutes.

-Jason Allen is playing at a pro bowl level on Special Teams.

-Most importantly, the team is not pointing fingers at each other, we still have two tough games upcoming, and we are averaging losing 1 key veteran per game, the fill ins have to come in and play at a high level to have a chance to win those games.

We've lost some tough games, the rest of the AFC East is playing cupcake games, "yes" we are in last place, and "yes" we must at least split the next two games to avoid going 2-6 and forcing the team to go on a long winning streak to have a hope of making the playoffs.

I was waay to harsh on Ted Ginn, I never should have just put the blame on him, we will need him moving forward and let's keep some perspective we are a really young team on offense, the defense seems to have turned the corner from a passrushing perspective.

all very good points Padre. The self destruct button needs to be destroyed. I cant believe how we continue to find ways to lose. I can excuse it first qtr of the season. Sometimes you have to work out the kinks. But week 7? I think we have to sweep the division now. I dont buy that we can split with the Patriots anymore. We have to sweep them. We're pretty much on the ropes right now. We know we should destroy the Jets next week. What we dont know is if we will find another way to lose the game

Had to say this but my head went down. I took that loss last night harder than any this season. We have played two undeafeted teams and let them off the hook.

    Good post Padre....

Hey...who knows...maybe theres a player who will read this thread.....

This team is a team that CAN play with any team ... ANY. And its not just that any given Sunday phrase....we wout played the Colts for 3.5 Qtrs...and we damn near beat the Saints. And yeh..we lost both games...but you know what?

Id much rather be frustrated that we didnt close out those games....than be frustrated because our organization sucks from the bottom up.

Henne's two pick sixes today....not even gonna bat an eye at them...neither of them were poor throws or decisions....the last one the receiver went in...he went out...that happens. Ginn should were the other pick 6 badge....

Im ecstatic....ECSTATIC....wanna hear it again.....ECSTATIC...that we have a QB like Chad Henne...because if theres one thing that has been shown in this league...is you dont become a Championship franchise without a upper echelon QB...you might get lucky here or there...but to stay a Championship franchise...you need a stud QB..and we have that....in my mind...NO DOUBT about it. If we had another reciever out there to match with Hartline and Camarillo and Bess....a true #1....I would have had no doubt Henne was going to march us down the field...none. Hell...if we had Olindo Mare...(because he was the best damn onsides kick guy Ive seen)...I would have wagered we would have still won that game....

I thought Vontae and Sean had great games.....and Gerbil...he played his best game yet this season....

Believe in this team....the only thing that keeps this team from 10 wins this season....is if they quit believing in themselves....

Honestly, we could or perhaps should be undefeated. Instead we are 2-4. Thats pathetic. This team has to learn how to finish opponents

Well, all they can do is what they can do, that sounds cavalier, but there is no magic formula for turning the season around.

The Saints and Colts are two of the elite franchises this season, our key will be beating the teams we should beat and at least staying in the game against the teams that are better than we are, the Pats and Steelers and Texans are all playing at a high level and the Jets coming off a blowout of the Raiders and at home is no easy game.

This offense has not been together very long and it is manned by players under 28 yrs old, most with 1 or 2 years of starting experience at Wr and Te, and Henne is start #3, it just takes time for an offense to become consistent.

If we look at the Chargers and Colts, they have been together for 4 or 5 years, the Saints for 4 years, the offense just takes time to develop no matter what "us" fans think.

The bottom line is this team is not built yet to beat playoff teams. This year 0-4 and I am not sure if the chargers are even going to be a playoff team.
We need one more productive draft to compete, needs a nose tackle,#1 receiver, playmaking ILBS,hopefully clemons will be the answer at free safety.
After watching henne even after yesterdays game I think he will be a good if not great qb in this league.(I forgot to mention Te fasno stinks)We just need to get him a #1 receiver in free agency or the draft.

i put it more on sparano and the coaches this season. next year we have to start the seasn with more discipline and urgency. i realize we have had an infusion of new blood but the slow starts two years in a row can no longer be tolerated going forward. next year we have to be ready to win from week one onwards

Well the defense appears to have turned the corner, that is a huge plus.

And Henne is clearly the Guy, this particular unit has been together since say 5 games into the 08 season when Bess and Polite began playing more and eventually became starters, that is 17 games, it just takes time for the offense to develop that sort of ESP along with the timing that great offenses have.

It is frustrating, like watching a child try to walk, they get to their feet take 4 or 5 steps, then !plop! right back down to the floor they go...

Agree with that, and I cannot explain the slow starts, not this season as the team is basically the same as it was in 08, but we are closer to needing a few pieces for next season than we are to leveling the Offense and starting over.

And it should be pointed out that Brian Hartline had a great game, he has some deceptive speed in him.

If Chad Henne had pulled off the 3 minute drill to win the game that would have been his second comeback win in three games...this from a guy with 3 career starts?

theres is no silver lining in this game imo. if anything, we have gotten even more exposed. We cant stop the run, cant defend the pass, cannot air it out, and dont have the common sense to run it with a Ricky Williams and instead air it out with a rookie qb. i mean, its only been 3 games and yet Henne is being hailed as the "chosen one". its one good game he had against the jets. i guess he's alright but we dont have a big time receiver. Ginn keeps getting this excuse about not being productive because Pennington cannot hit Ginn in stride. Well, Henne is hitting Ginn on the numbers and he is still dropping passes. And when he does make the reception, he avoids the contact at all costs.

I was very upset yesterday managed to break my sons $250 baseball bat(I guess I will be ordering a new one today).
I thought about it this morning and I guess it in the grand scheme of things it does not matter that they lost. What is the point of making the playoffs when you know your team is not good enought to really contend.Last season was a mirage because we beat a bunch of bad teams.Play the good teams in this league and you get 2-4.We make the right moves next year and we have a serious contender.Look at this year as getting the young players ready for a run in 2010.

I'm really optimistic about the team. Henne looks like a good player. There are holes on the roster. I don't believe in the "learn how to win" stuff. Once they get better players, they'll be an elite team. IF they get better players.

Honestly, both of Henne's interceptions were flukes. The first one was on a tip drill that never should of happened because Ginn had the ball hit him in his hands. The second was on 4th down with a guy on his face and he just threw it up. He didn't play a great game but I don't think he was as bad as his numbers indicate.

    Good write up padre

Henne isn't a savior, but the kid is showing signs of being VERY, VERY GOOD.

as much as i rag on Ginn, this game isn't on him ... he is what he is ... he is past the 'potential' label that folks keep giving him. he is a finesse player -- it just can't be refuted, and has zero toughness -- NONE.

but none-the-less, even with the misques, this game was there to win, as a repeat of the JESTS game. if the WRs as a whole would focus on attacking the ball and making the catch -- the offense doesn't get stalled. OL did not have a good 2nd half. The JESTS were a similar defense, so not sure why we had such a hard time.

LBs and a WR are what we need, and its coming --- next year ...

Let's not forget the fact that we are one year removed from being a 1-15 team. Last year was great, but let's face it, we had a much easier schedule than we do this year. I've still got faith that this team will remain competitive this year and will only be stronger next season. We gave the Saints a mighty big scare yesterday, and they responded the way an elite team should, the smoked us in the 2nd half. We're a lot closer to being a top tier team, but we're not quite there yet.

    Go Phins!

    great post but honestly ,

In my mind henne has ONE pick 6 ..

    the other 2

Ginn obviously gave it to them

and at the end of the game when its 4th and 13 you call play action ?

once henne turns around a guys in his face... its the last play of the game gotta

throw it up cant take the sack , maybe if we call shotgun on 4th and long,
give him a chance , we might see a henne march down the field someday

The Saints had a flash in the pan cinderella season in 06 (much like ours last year) before suffering through two seasons of mediocrity with 7-9 and 8-8 in 07 and 08 respectively. Look at them now.

These things take time more often than not. We have our QB and a lot of the pieces we need for a championship run, but we're not there yet, we're not a complete team. I could list off where we need to upgrade but you already know. I trust our FO and most of our coaching staff to do what must be done, if it takes time so be it.

True, however they found some Gem Wr's in later rounds, Hartline has the longest pass play from scrimmage this year, maybe he is one of the pieces, maybe he isn't.

This season is not a wash...yet...

    Here's my summary:

We lost to a better team, arguably the best team in the league.

That team, like the other good teams we've played, exposed our weaknesses on defense and our lack of a play maker at WR and TE.

Henne should not be judged until we get him better targets.....we asked him to duel it out in the 2nd half with Drew Brees and do so with a mediocre TE and a number one WR that would get you no more than a 5th round pick on the open market.

Don't expect Henne to light it up until we get him some help.

    Love the thread Padre.

What people are forgetting that even with two crushing losses this year, is that Miami is better than they were last year at this time. Also where the other AFC East teams had the soft part of their schedule early now Miami has theirs late. This season is not over and if Miami does manage to win the next two they would be one game out of the division lead. Even as you said a split leaves the door open especially with the schedule the other teams have left.

Yes the loss sucked and we all have big concerns for this team but they turned it around last year and they can this year too. If they play to the level they did against the Colts and Saints against any other team I think Miami can win...so there is still hope. This team can play with anyone let's just hope the coaching kinks work their way out.

Disagree, I think our Wr are fine, but quite young, even the "veteran" Greg Cammarillo is what...26? 27? His only time as a starter in the NFL was 2008.

I know people, especially "us" fans look at player's "names" for the most part, "trade for "X" or draft "Y" and everything will be fixed overnight"

Offenses don't work like that, look how long it took the Chargers to finally assemble a passable Wr corps...2 years? 3 years?

It took the Saints 3 years and that was with Brees as the Qb, Henne is moving into start #4, it will take time for him and the offense to develop some rhythm in the passing game no matter who we have at Wr and Te.

How on EARTH can you say that.......please explain?

Just because it takes time to assemble a good WR unit, doesn't mean you just give up and say oh ours fine as is......

And it's not the "units" that need replacing......

It's the fact that Ginn and Fasano have NO business being the number one guy on ANY NFL team.......one good play maker on both those units and we're fine.

How many other teams put up 34 points on the Saints?

No one, we also scored the most points on the Colts this year with those same Wr, have some perspective JS.

exactly what did you see that makes you think our D turned the corner?..the pass rush?

I saw an empty middle of the field all night..This defense is not playing well as a unit. a good first half doesnt cut it for me at home..again

They have enough leadership on that unit to either sh$# or get off the pot.The offense is making them look silly, and their younger.

back to back wins for me to prove to us that they are to be taken seriously as a unit, or i start guttin that defense up the middle.

Yep, if one noticed, we were forcing turnovers when we sent the house on blitzes, then of course, we stopped doing that when we got a lead *cough*..*cough*...

If the NOLA game should have taught us anything it is that we need to blitz to generate a passrush.

My perspective says we scored those points on the ground......and left points on the field due to a lack of play making targets for Henne. Does the game winning TD pass vs the Colts or the tip drill present Ginn gave Sharper ring a bell?

Bottom line is that if you expect to beat high powered offenses, you better get you one too...the running game is great, but it needs to be complimented by the passing game, which won't happen until we upgrade Henne's targets
