For what its worth, Drew Brees said on New Orleans radio that they would have gone for it instead of kicking the FG, even if Sparano hadn't called the timeout. No link. I heard it on the radio on the way to work.

We definitely got outcoached. But this was not one of the examples.

But their kicker was on the field and they had no timeouts left? Were they gonna fake it?

I dunno, maybe they had enough time to run the offense back on the field. Or maybe Brees is a big, fat liar. Or maybe I misheard him.

Ha. Well the clock was going to start on the ready-for-play, so no way Brees makes back to the line in time with only 5 seconds on the clock.

Either way, we got screwed on that play. No way they make it to the line after Colston's catch in time to spike it if the officials called it correctly on the field.

Drew Brees is a liar. The field goal unit was out there and they were going to kick the field goal. Sean Payton said so himself. This will go down as THE WORST TIMEOUT in NFL history. Sorry Tony. You blew it.

Yeah that is what I recall too. Sparano should have had his defense out there ready no matter what the decision was on the review. No reason at all to call timeout.

    This.

They had plenty of time with that review to consider all scenarios. I knew from my couch they were probably gonna go for it, so even if they line up for the FG (which they did) it shouldn't have been a huge deal. Give them the 3 points and go to the half up 24-6.

Yeah I still can't figure out what Sparano was thinking with that. I was thinking it is only 3 points not so bad after they almost just had a touchdown. Then,I see the timeout and Brees come out on the field,I just knew there would be a touchdown and I could not believe or think of any reason why they had to take that timeout.

That's ridiculous to put it politely. Calling a timeout or not is irrelevent. The Saints changing

Actually it is relevant when a team doesn't have any timeouts left and is setting up for a field goal. And then you call a timeout for them and give them a chance to discuss it and give Brees a chance to say "Let me do this."

    It's not "irrelevant". Sorry.

From what I remember seeing was that it looked like the defense was scrambling into place, so if the Saints were going to fake the field goal we would have been screwed(After last game's 2 fakes!?!?! who can blame him for thinking that was a possibility).

They definitely would not have had time to get the offense back on the field.

Overall it should not have come to that if the 2 end zone refs would have made the correct decision which would have ran out the clock instead of them scoring anything! This would have disrupted the Saints confidence and shifted the momentum back to us which would have been extremely helpful considering we got the ball back in the second!!
