Btw, i am not taking anything away from CC, but A rod deserved the MVP. Game 2 was the most important game in the series, and without that Home Run we go to LA 1-1 and possibly 1-2 at one point... CC pitched amazing but Arod had an once in a life time ALCS

btw... Pettitte has been amazing to us his whole career here... Pitched in many big games, and always seem to pull through! i never understood why we let him go in the first place

btw... This is Pettitte's 8th World Series, winning 4 of them! lets hope he goes 5/8

Agree on AROD over CC...atleast do the right thing and give it to both.

Also, 40 AL Championships...amazing! 26 WS Titles out of 39 past AL Championships....so lets hope the First AL Title in the NEW home, leads to the 1 for 1 in WS Title in the NEW home too!

Good game Yankees...Cliff Lee had it going on tonight and Chase Utley had a big game. It's just one game though....on to Game 2. It should be fun watching Pedro Martinez pitching in Yankee Stadium tomorow night.

I'd be worried about your manager too, he doesn't seem like he has a clue right now on how to use the bullpen and also the bullpen itself as no one is throwing well outside of Rivera and Robertson (last night excluded).

Been here before.......not the first Game 1 we have dropped at home. Long way to go, hats off to Lee (10Ks, 0BB, 0ER, Complete Game).....and CC was just off his with location, and not working ahead of counts.

It happens....again, its more about our Bats then anything else, including bullpen. Lee was Lee, but we cant afford to let every other starter for Phils pitch like a Cy Young winner. We have to get to their bullpen!

The moment looked too big for Hughes last night. He was terrible.

And I agree Ray about Girardi. Absolutely clueless.

Hughes hasn't been good since September ended. Really the only pitchers that have been throwing well have been Robertson, who Girardi refuses to put in a big spot over Hughes and Joba (who's been bad since July outside of 1 start vs. Boston and has no reason to be getting the ball in big spots right now), and Rivera (obviously).

Girardi reminds me of a skinny verison of Grady Little with his head puzzling moves. Besides all the pitching changes, he's managing the Yankees like they're some 1980's NL teams with all the bunting and pinch running. But the pen management is his biggest flaw, I mean you let a right handed pitcher throw to Ibanez in the 8th? I thought Girardi is a stats guy. That blew the game opened right there. Where was Coke in that spot? That's why you have two lefties in the bullpen.

Hughes is in one of those funks where close calls are going against him as well....he was getting squeezed which doesnt help when he is clearly off.

It was awesome seeing Pedro throw like that last night, even if he couldn't hit 90 mph, the guy can still pitch when he needs too, unfortunately Burnett was simply better. I still have no idea how Matsui hit that curveball out of the park.

Obviously the goal is to get 1 in Phil to send it back to the stadium and gain back home field advantage. That said, only 1 in Phil will make me nervous .

Must wins can not occur until its an elimination game....that's the only time...so please enough with the must win garbage. Its been proven through history...the only MUST WIN is elimination game!

A team down 2-0 in a 7 game series is pretty much at a must win. I mean I forget the stat but I think there's only been 1 team in the whole history of baseball to ever come back from being down 3-0 and win the series. I just forget the team and/or year and I'm too lazy to google it.

Down 0-3 in 2004 made games 4 5 6 and 7 the only must wins for the Sox!!!!

That year put all ther MUST WINS in perspectve! I dont care about STATS, the FACTS wont get in the way.

All other hyperpole and TALKING HEADS crap is just that...CRAP!

Ok obviously all elimination games are must win games but my point and the fact is that teams down 2-0 that lose game 3 don't fair well throughout the over 100 years of pro baseball. There's only 1 example of a team being down 0-3 and winning the series. Therefore a game 3 being down 2-0 is pretty much a must win game. I know in 2004, I (and everyone else in the world) was saying Game 3 was a must win because it was because the odds were completely against the Red Sox coming back and winning that series. If the Yankees were down 2 games to 0, I'm sure you would being saying Game 3 is a must win, because the odds of winning the series is remote.

And there are such things as must win games during the season.

You'd be wrong - cause I wouldnt be saying that- and I have already explained why anyone saying it is, is also wrong...they just arent as smart as me to admit it! :wink2:

Its not about odds...(just like McCaver last night stating there was ZERO chance Jeter would be attempting a bunt with 2 strikes)....its not about odds its about FACTS....which gets lost on all the hyperbole and crap that spews from talking heads that think they know the truth! They dont know diddly bo....its about FACTS...not opinions!

Ok but the FACT is in over 100 years of pro ball there's been exactly 1 team that has won a series when they were down 3-0. And I believe only two teams that even forced a Game 6 (Mets in 1999 and Red Sox in 2004) in that situation. Therefore people can say that a Game 3 is a must win game if a team is down 0-2 in the series because the facts, history and odds are all against that team. And while I realize that just because the Sox did it in 2004 doesn't mean that another team in any other year can't do it or the fact that no one had done it before the Sox therefore no team can ever do it but it's not likely to happen. And It has nothing to do with the 'talking heads' or anything like that, that McCarver quote has nothing to do with this conversation nor does Jeter's brain fart last night. If you want to get on the media go for it but that stuff has nothing to do with our debate.

And hey maybe you wouldn't say a Game 3 isn't a must win if your team was down 0-2 however you couldn't tell me that you'd still be confident in your team's chances if the dropped the 3rd game. Heck you even said it yourself you'd be nervous if your team was down 3 games to 2.

All I'm saying is history has proven that the chances of a team winning a series being down 3-0 aren't good at all (minus exactly 1 example otherwise), therefore I would consider a Game 3 with a team down 0-2 to be a must win game. I actually think you'd be in a minority thinking otherwise and it has nothing to do with who's smarter or not it has to do with history and past performances.

Considering Hamels has been hittable (and that his BABIP indicates he's been quite a bit unlucky) I'd maybe not go so far as to say Game 3 is a must win, but it's pretty damn important setting up the rest of the series and this is even at 1-1. I know CC is great, but I rather not be down 2-1, with likely two more games against Lee, even if it can be done.

Agreed about the team's chances....(that's my point, its just chances..its not over - therefore its not a MUST WIN)...so it doesn't make games 1 2 or 3 must wins.

Its logic...it makes games 1 2 and 3 advantageous wins..but the only MUST WIN is an elimination game for the team trailing. Its straight forward - has nothing to do with chances or odds.

And McCarver's comments are just like any other fool spouting about MUST WINS prior to it actually being a MUST WIN....they are simply airbags! They say things that have nothing to do with reality or possibility...they blow hot air about what they think reality or possibility is.

(Jeter's boneheaded inability to lay down a sacrifice aside:up:)

And the entire 2004 Sox team would tell you, games 1 2 and 3 were not MUST WINS...cause they didn't win any of them and they still won the series....games 4, 5, 6, and 7 became and equaled MUST WINS.

To me a "MUST WIN" is the game that equals win or its over.....not just WIN or you are at a disadvantage...F the disadvantage, cause if you win the next one and its back to square and you stay alive...so the only MUST WIN is the one if you lose its over...and as we all should know by now, if it aint over, it aint over, Yogi!

to be serious though, the second time around for pitchers is generally when the bats take on more importance. Generally, familiarity breeds a better batting average and more runs

Lets hope so from the Yank bats perspective, cause we slept through games 3 & 5 vs Angels....thank goodness we worked it out for game 7....but we are back to sleeping in games 1 and 2 so far.

But you have to admit we havent worked the counts, and come up with clutch hits, we havent put any pressure on Phils D yet.

Its all about the clutch hits....Phils fan may or may not think their team is hitting (and clearly Howard is in the AROD cat right now) but they have develivered 2 out 2 strike rbi's, Yanks havent.

Great win last night! a win today would be HUGE. I think todays win was huge in the sense, we are guaranteed to at least go home... and i like our chances at home! Lets go Yanks!

btw, Rivera is AMAZING... he is our MVP of the World Series as of right now... Hughes looked rough again, Joba looked great though...just 2 more games to go!
