Someone "copied" my credit card. I just received an email 10 minutes ago saying that someone in a certain New York town tried buying almost $400 worth of groceries, but the "clone" card was declined.....and the douche(s) were able to just walk out of the store. I haven't been to New York or CT for over a year.

F*** my life. Edit:I'm sure a lot of you are going to laugh it up too. Thanks in advance.

you should call and confirm with the credit card company. dont enter any information if the email asks for it.

close the account first off. then call lifelock or something similar. i don't know if they just do preventions.. but give'em a call. it's $10 a month and you get something like a million guaranteed back

Bank of America had emailed me and tipped me off. They automatically closed the card down and have expedited shipment through FedEx of a new card with a new number. I just found out recently about the fact that people can make counterfeit credit cards.

Seriously.....people f***ing make me sick. I'm so fed up.

Why would anyone here laugh it up? I'd not wish identity theft on the people I dislike most.

People are a bunch of spineless cowards.

Since the economy is in the toilet, I bet this type of thing happens a lot more frequently now.

Yeah, when I worked retail we'd have people come in with cloned cards all the time. The cards had the person's name on it, so if we asked for ID it was legit, but they had someone else's info. programmed on them.

About 5 years ago, there was a huge Credit Card fraud ring out of Hialeah that got busted by the FBI.

My friend had her id stolen by her boss. She went and bought a new car.
Well, she didn't make payments, so the bank got in touch with my friend to find out why she was so behind.
To make a long story short, the other woman had to pay the car off (still can't figure out how she did this). My friend got the car free and clear.
There was no jail time or anything which I don't understand.
She had kept this secret for over a year before it caught up with her.
Now, the bank is saying there's more money owed on the car. My friend has the title in her name etc. and just told them to go stick it.

It also was put on her credit report and she's having a hard time getting that fixed.

Identity theft should be a capital offense.

You work hard every day to make a living and support yourself and/or your family. How will you feel when you find out that someone has used your name to get a credit card and has run up thousands of dollars in charges that you are now going to have to convince the credit card company that you are not responsible for? What if they opened bank accounts in your name, committed crimes using your name, or took out Payday Loan, or worse?!. I've so many stories about I**nnocent people are being arrested because someone is committing crimes using their names. Being careful and aware about this issue could really be helpful to prevent being a victim of this kind of crime.

well, usually the credit card theft results in less than 500 rip-offs. It's important to have a credit card that has some protection. makes a big difference.
I've had 3 incidents in the past 5 years of people stealing my credit card number, and in each case, the card (Citibank) has done a really nice job making sure there are no costs out of my pocket.
