I know. I saw that, too. And we know how critical Sparano is with his film breakdown! He probably has film on how many times a player grabs his crotch. I can see him saying in an interview, "You know, it's one of those things where a player has to move his junk. I think, maybe 14% of the plays he did it. We'll have to take a look at the tape again, but we'll get it right. These equipment guys gotta do a better job of getting the right jock size. If they can't do it, we'll get someone in there who can...."

I remembered the analysts were questioning the decision, but Sparano, being young in his HC'ing career, never fails to impress me. This guy will take his lumps, but he does think a little differently. It's like his mind is always thinking ahead, but he uses his statistical genius to back it up. I'm really glad he's our guy.

I still don't get why he went for two....

Kicking the extra point puts us up by 12 at that point and they would have no choice but to score two TD's.

The alternative is going up by 13, which is basically no diff than being up by 12 and the risk was leaving yourself at 11 up and being tied by a FG, a TD and two point conversion.

13 Points--- Need 2 TD's or TD and 2 FG= good situation-2 possesion game, or 3 possession game.
    12 Points---need 2 td's or td and 2 fg to win---bad situation, 2 possession or 3 possesion game.
11 points- need 1 td, 2 point conversion, and FG to tie, not so good.

Better odds of winning, but not a huge risk by going for 2. I liked it.

If you make the two and go up by 13, there is a chance of them missing an extra point on one of the TD's. That is the main difference to me honestly. Though I don't believe it was worth it.

In the end of the game scenario, if, say the Jets indeed did score a TD and get two, they'd need 3 to tie, which could be likely given their possible field position. Say they make that FG, and OT is probably in the hands of who gets the toss.

If Miami gets the 2-pt conversion, they're up by 12. If it is the end of the game, the Jets would absolutely have to go for a TD instead of a FG (if they score a TD with a 2-pt conversion earlier). Their chances of scoring a TD late gives makes Miami's defensive calls more manageable, especially if they're out of timeouts.

Miami is still up by 11 without the conversion. With it, the game is tougher for the Jets.

Once it's broken down, it absolutely makes sense.

** Looking at my post, I think I'm doing some silly math here. Let me renege my post. **

OK, so Miami is still up 11 w/o conversion. Jets could:

    - TD w/2 and FG to tie

If Miami makes FG, they'd be up by 12:

    - Two TDs to win. Or TD and 2 FGs to win.

Miami makes conversion, up by 13:

    - Two TDs to win. Or TD with 2 pt. and two FGs to win. Or TD with 2 FGs to tie.

I guess he was playing the odds? Whatever those odds were....

I know, my brain kinda hurts thinking about it. I thought I was onto something, but between posting and watching this exciting Saints/Falcons game, I had a brain lapse.

I think these guys are going to be better... at the very minimum they are ahead of where Surtain and Madison were at this point in their careers. Madison only started 4 games his rookie year (3 of the last 5 regular season games and one playoff game). Surtain didn't start any games until week 11 of his SECOND year.

neither do I, you have to take the point and make them score 2 TD's or a TD and 2 FG's. Love Sparano but that was just a dumb move.

Speaking of Sparano, I wonder how much his lack of being the head coach is playing onto this. Anyone know how many years he has as a head coach in the past?

Surtain didn't start because we had T-buck, who was a stud while in Miami.

I'm not ready to commit to better than Madison and Surtain... These guys were shutdown corners... Hard to find 1, never mind 2.

I'd love to be wrong though.

well being up 13 would force them to kick the second XP with a chance of it being blocked but we still should have kicked

not sure they play the same type game ... the good news Smith and Davis will tackle ...

we don't need Marion and Knight, we need LT and Pepper Johnson ... we NEED LBs much more than Ss .... note the difference in our defense when we are getting pressure on the QB vs in the 2d halves when we aren't .... it's the front 7 that sets the table.
