usual disrepect for the Dolphins coming out of Foxborough with RickyWilliams/WildCat twist: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/...w.bg?articleid=1209491&srvc=sports&position=3
it brings up good points though. If teams continue to blitz their corners in without us adjusting it's going to end the wild cat. I think this could be the week we need to see something out of Pat White to keep those corners on their recievers
this is actually where White can help ... he doesn't have to run the WC, just take the place of Henne as a WR in the WC set ... which should force the CB to stay with him. not sure how he could get hurt doing that. another option is Ginn ... all we have to do is make the attempt at a fly or go ... we know the problem set, we now just have to beat it ....
I agree. I like that Williams has turned the corner for this reporter. He's right, we need to evolve or the WC becomes extinct.
After reading the article, I did not find it to be disrespectful at all. Pretty much spot on and good observations from all parties involved. I absolutely agree with Ricky when he says that the wildcat needs to evolve or it will become extinct. New looks need to be added to keep the corners from cheating up and stopping the run.
This isn't the first time people said the Wildcat was done. Ronnie is right, you're not going to get 100 yards out of it each week.
yup, no disrespect at all. it's gotten to the point on this board that any comment from the opposition that's not flowery praise is complete disrespect. grow a pair, guys...
Our O Line got manhandled against the Jets last week that is why it was stopped. It's not like we were running for 6+ yards when we ran out of our conventional formations and then got -1 on WC runs. The corner blitzers are significant if you are running outside. But they don't help that much if you run up the middle. And if the dolphins get clean run up the middle then there will be less help to tackle the RB once he gets past the line of scrimmage ( because you send a safety over to cover the WR since the corner is blitzing ). It's possible we get some huge runs up the middle.. like break away TD runs. ^^ that is all just guessing, but we know the WC isn't a magic formation. If we block we get yards, if we don't then the team 'shut down the WC'. Whatever the media wants to hype I guess.
Wildcat lives as long as oline blocks, imo. First time around, we manhandled the jets, on Oline, and ran all day. This time, they manhandled us + blitzed to which we did not adjust to.
it's like any other formation. You win the man on man battles in the trenches and it will succeed. The difference has been when we do win the battles on the oline, it has a propensity to go for large chuncks of yardage. When we block right, seal off edges open up gaps it will go for 7-10 yards, and once in a while a 30+ yard gain. As we have seen in the ATL game and the 2nd Jets game, if we don't win the blocking battles it can be shut down. I don't think we need to run wild on the pats for it to be deemed successful, as long as we can utilize it in key situations. 2nd and long, first downs to set up short 2nd and 3rd's, and most importantly utilize it enough to get into the endzone when were in the redzone, especially within 5 yards. A stout D in the redzone who doesn't give you lots of options to score 6 instead of setteling for 3, the wildcat can give you that 5 yard gain to put up 7. That's where it will need to be effective to help us win this week in Foxborough. I don't think the over thinking it with throwing a non-confident pat white into the mix or a bunch of triple handoffs is the key. You won't fool a NE d all that often and those can be risky plays. What it will come down to is how efficient is it when we need 7 instead of 3 and how effective will our oline and TE's be blocking and making good on their assignments will determine how useful the wildcat will be this week. And after the poor run blocking last week, i think our oline comes to play this week. Their a proud group who was dominating almost every game this year, i'm sure they have a sense of redemtion to carry out this week to get ronnie and ricky freeways to run through, wildcat or regular formation.
you won't hear anything but praise out of Bellichick and the Pats this week. what the papers say...who cares. not that this was really negative or anything of the sort.
