    Ha-Ha.

A good lesson in the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Scares the living hell out of me as to the exact chemicals they "shot into the clouds" :pity:

Just wait until the snow melts and the floods start.

Not sure, but I think there are some little Chinese kids who are regretting their decision to stick their tongue out to catch snowflakes.

On a side note, did we just find our cure for global warming?

Are we pulling this kind of stuff? Kind of worries me if we are falling behind the chinese in this department.

    Seriously.

Wouldn't it be useful in wars? Stopping droughts?

i think they find clouds with precipitation then make the precipitation drop. cloud seeding......... they did this during the dustbowl I believe.

I'm not sure that they are used chemicals for this. In the late 1800's Nikola Tesla, had theorized that by bouncing a high concentration of radio waves off the earths Ionosphere could be used to "manipulate" the earths weather. A significant amount of research has been going into this not just from China but majority if not all of the worlds industrialized nations. There was a show on this on one of the Discovery Channels (Science Channel I think) affiliates not to long ago dedicated to this. I tried to find the video to post but I wasn't able to find it but Ill keep looking.

Here is an article that try's to explain the science behind it.

Anyone who can control the weather can control the world.

However I suspect that this is no more than existing technology going awry .

Seeding an existing weather condition to snow prematurely is not high technology.

If it were ,the Chinese could solve the Global Warming problem and they are the biggest contributors to that problem....after the USA.

Cloud Seeding has been studied for about a Century I believe. In a nut-shell some form of Silver Oxide (Is that possible Pete?) Is presented to existing clouds to help give the moisture an "aggregate" to attach to. Once it attaches, it becomes heavy enough to fall and VIOLA, rain....or actually frozen rain usually.
That part doesn't concern me, its what exactly China is using as an aggregate that scares me. Its not like they have been environmentally responsible about ANYTHING!!!!
For the record, last time I read about cloud seeding, whether or not it actually works is about as definitive as Global Warming or whether or not Ginn is a good reciever

pretty sure silver oxide is possible. isn't oxidation of a metal what we call rust......

The Soviets used cloud seeding for decades to ensure a clear day for their May Day parades.

What bothers me is, when rain or snow does not fall on a given area, it happens that way for a reason, if the "butterfly effect" is a truth, then what is injecting tons of chemicals into cloud banks?

I'm not liking this...at all...cloud patterns and rainfall is already wildly misunderstood, what happen when that complex of a system is manipulated?

Correct, but some metals rust and others don't as much.
My metallurgy doesn't include Silver or much Gold for the last 15 years or so....

    Ever seen rusty gold?

I think we've opened Pardora's box enough with all the genetic manipulation we have done throughout history. Now we want to **** with the weather? What's next? Scary thought, controlling the weather. You could really make life hell for some desert dwelling America haters if you sent them South Florida thunderstorms for six months straight. I kinda like this idea, flush 'em outta their caves.

Well Silver (Nitride?) is used in film development, so spraying tons of an active chemical into a cloud bank will have an effect iirc the silver attaches to the water molecules and the additional weight causes the precipate to fall out of the sky.

In this case, the "brilliant" minds at central planning forgot to factor in temperatures as the precipate fell...there is a lesson in there somewhere...

i would think all metals rust, but some might take some more work. most things like melting points and such depend on the make up of the atom, so I would assume rusting is the same.

and I haven't seen any gold in my life.............just fake gold........... don't tell the ladies that

Yeah, the lesson is don't use lead-based paint on kids toys.
We learned that about.....oh, 4 0 years ago.
The Chinise still haven't figured it out.
Unfortunately we are paying for their ignorance.

silver iodide... was likely the chemical. Sometimes one of the consequences of seeding with it is extreme precipitation... like the Chinese got.. The complaint about no heating had nothing to do with the seeding.

We were accused of seeding hurricane Betsy back in the 60's. Project Stormfury

Yes of course. Thanks Marty, not sure why I had such a mental lapse earlier.

Silver Iodide is actually pretty harmless unless one is to intake large mass quantities...kindve like Whiskey :shifty:

And of course Silver Oxidizes....thats why Grandma always had to Clean her Silverware of "Tarnish"..... feeling pretty stooopid right now I am.....:pity:

Here's another article on Cloud-seeding and interestingly enough, exclusively talks about China, but other incidents...
