oh please, the yankees and their 27 championships. when you've been around for 14000 years, you're gonna do some winning. yeah they beat up Mesopotamia in their first title. then they had those great rivalries against sparta and troy. then there was pompei and that famous "volcano" game. gimme a break. they should have 700 titles by now.

I am sorry but no one can take anything away form the yankees... they earned this title... They brought up Mariano Rivera, HOFer, Derek Jeter, HOFer, Posada, HOFer, Andy Pettitte, potential HOFer...and all these guys have 5 world series rings... I hate people taking away credit from the yankees. They deserved this...

You know I hate the Yankees but this is BS.

There is no cap in baseball. Why WOULDN'T you spend as much money as you could to field the best team? Lot's of teams spend a boat of money in hopes of a championship, and the Yankees don't win every year. It's not like they are cheating or something, and it's not like they win every year.

I hate the Phillies, thanks for beating them.

Thank you! Yankes earned this and its annoying to hear everyone just be like o they bought another world series... They forget that Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera were yankees since day 1... Those two guys played a huge role in winning this series, as did people like A rod and CC, but every team signs players to fix problems they have...They showed that you can not buy world series titles... this team had the chemistry and talent to win it all... They earned everything! If the yankees and doing something wrong baseball would have added a salary cap a long time ago...

Well this wasn't that surprising. The Yankees were the best team in baseball from mid June on. No one can say they didn't deserve it.

lso people need to realize that they are blaming the yankees in spending all this money when its baseballs fault... The yankees are not doing anything that other fans wished their owners did... Its not the Yankees fault they make all this money and their owner, rather then keep the money for himself, spends it to contend... There are so many owners who can care less about winning and only care about making money...

    Uhmmmm yeah.
So, you have 3 guys who came up through the organization?
Of course those are 3 of the best to come uo through the organization, anb the reason they are still there is nobody else can pay them.

Sorry to rain on your Parade, but mine was also rained on about 7 years ago.
You see, that's when my beloved D-backs beat the Yanks to win the Series, and it was all good till I found out, just like almost every World Series, that one was also "Bought". You see, MLB actually lent Tons of cash to Coangelo so he could go out and aquire Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. Of course the amount of money lent was still very very pale in comparison to the Yankees rediculous Salaries, it was bought none-the-less.
    Chemistry? You talk about Chemistry?
AMAZING how much Chemistry you can buy for 300,000,000 dollars.
Sorry, but you are indeed correct. Its not so much the Yankees fault as it is Bud, I have zero integrity, Selig's fault. He has done quite a bit to ruin the great American past-time.
If you feel that winning it is still special even though you have a payroll 6X that of most teams, and 8x that of a few, I honestly don't know what to tell you.
To me it is Synonomous with Ohio State feeling good about running up the score on New Mexico State.....big deal....

Well congrats to the Yankees fans. They are fans of their team like we are about the Dolphins. It's not their fault that Selig ruined (and continues to) baseball. Every year team’s play to win it all and the Yankees did just that.

I agree with you az about Selig. He has done nothing to improve baseball. He doesn't even comment on the many problems or issues with it. Every time a subject comes up. He literally hides.

Come on man. I hate the Yankees as much as anyone but the payroll thing is kind of old. Was anyone complaining when the Rays are facing the Phillies last year and high payroll teams like the Yankees and Mets didn't even make the playoffs? Or the fact that the Yankees have had the highest payroll in baseball for the past 9 years (by a large margin) yet have only won once?

Yeah the Yankees spend money but why shouldn't they? They make a ton too. I'd rather have an owner that's willing to spend money to make the team better than have an owner who's just worried about the bottom line and pockets the profits. The Yankees do give money back to other teams due to the luxury tax, unfortunately even then owners still pocket that cash.

Sure the Yankees have a huge advantage because of where they play and how much revenue they bring in and yes having a huge payroll helps get better players but teams have proved numerous times just this decade that if you have a smart front office, good player development and scouts even small market teams can be successful.

Let the Yankee fans have their fun today and enjoy their title, for today at least.

I'm not a Selig fan at all but you have to give him credit for creating the Wild Card and 3 division leagues. That was a good move by him. The players and owners all love Selig because under his watch everyone has made a lot of money for better or worse at the expense of the game.

    And there you have it.
It is no longer about the game, and all about the Money.it is no longer a game, just a business.
Who cares that small markets have become NOTHING but another layer of Minor leagures?
    Shame on you :pity:
In todays times and economical woes, these guys just keep getting richer and richer.

I said this in another thread. For everyone whining about the Yankees being nothing but high priced free agents....do some research.

There are more home grown Yankees on their roster than any other team in baseball. 14 to be exact.

Jeter, Pettitte, Cano, Posada, Rivera, Aceves, Hughes, Coke, Chamberlain, Gardner, Kennedy, Robertson, Cervelli, Cabrera.

    ALL home grown.

And since the only team in the MLB Matsui ever played on is the Yankees he's technically a product of the system also.

    So stop already.

Well it IS a business and baseball has been and always will be about money. It may be just a game for the fans but remember it's a job for the ball player.

But seriously, small market teams CAN compete as teams have proved that countless times in this decade alone. Yes having money is certainly a big advantage but teams CAN and HAVE competed. Were you complaining about payroll and small market teams when the DBacks swept the Cubs in 2007 and then lost to another small market team in the Rockies? Did people complain that the Rays beat Chicago and then Boston last year (and the Yankees or Mets didn't even make the playoffs)? Were people complaining when the Mets and Cubs this year didn't make the playoffs? Were people complaining when the Yankees didn't win a single WS since from 2001-2008 yet consistently outspent teams?

Whether a small market team can compete and be good, it all depends on who's running things at the top. If you don't have a good front office then your team is doomed. Even if you have a lot of money and a bad front office you could be in trouble (example see: New York Mets). The reason the Royals and Pirates have sucked for the past 15 years isn't because of them being small market teams, it's about them having morons run their front offices as well as bad owners. Take your Diamondbacks for example, the owner pushed for the big contract of Eric Byrnes even though the baseball people running things didn't agree with the decision. So the Dbacks were stuck with wasted money on a ball player that never showed he was worth that money and then had to go along and trade Carlos Quentin who was younger, had a higher upside and cheaper.

Sorry I'm calling you out on this. I doubt the Yankees have the most home grown players on their roster than any other team in baseball. Where did you see or read that? Also what are you basing that on? Playoff rosters? 40 man rosters? 25 man rosters? All players that played for the team this year? But hey I'll gladly admit I'm wrong though if you can show me something on it.

Also Aceves isn't home grown. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays and then went to the Mexician leagues where the Yankees bought his contract from the Jays. And you can't include Ian Kennedy's name in there because he pitched a total of 1 inning and was a total non-factor this year.

EDIT: Nevermind, I did some quick research and the Rockies have at least 21 guys that are home grown that have played for them this year: Iannetta, Helton, Barmes, Tulo, Stewart, Atkins, Spilborghs, Hawpe, Young, Smith, Fowler, Baker, Jimenez, Cook, Francis, Morales, Rogers, Corpas, Chacin, Spier and Daley.

My bad, I meant playoff rosters...of which Kennedy and Cervelli musty be removed.

Aceves might have been drafted by the Jays, but he never played for them. He's only been a Yankee as far as MLB is concerned. Technicality? Maybe. Still...
