the problem he has had his entire career is not being a consistent weapon for our offense. hes hot and cold. and a very very mediocre/below avg wide receiver. the drops THIS SEASON are just icing on the "bust cake"

Well agreed but short of their RBs Delhomme can give games away easily. The parts that worry me most are the short rest and that its a raucous home game in Carolina in primetime. Add to that them being on a roll and uh-oh. Miami can't have but maybe one loss to hope for the playoffs so a team I considered a good chance of beating now has me rethinking that.

    Keep it in pespective....

I thought this thread was mainly going to be a discussion on how we played pretty well. You have to realize we are still NOT as good a team as the Pats and we were playing on the road.

I'm just not that upset because I never expected a win today.
Would have loved a win but still just not a game I expected us to pull out.
    Overall we did ok.

What got me about the thread is how it turned into a Ginn debate.
The debate on Ginn to me is old. At this point the Jury is in on Ginn IMO.
He's never going to live up to his draft status.
The arguments comparing Ginn and Hartlines drops are irrelevant to me.

BOTH should have been caught and both were big drive killers.

However, the difference comes when you realize which WR was a top 10 pick, a pick expected to be a consistent playmaker. That's Ginn.

The only thing Ginn is consistent at playing WR is not making plays. I've never seen another WR that plays so scared. On that key drop in the 4th, Ginn's hands were coming down well before they should have. He was clearly gator arming it and thinking of the hit that may be coming. Hartlines drop on the other hand was clearly an all out effort he just couldn't come up with. Big difference.

Regardless of his exciting day last week with the returns.
Ginn I don't feel will ever be a top WR.
You can't teach toughness and Ginn does not have the toughness to be an all around WR let alone a #1.

Best case scenario is we force him to take a pay cut worthy of his status.
Keep him as a flyer to stretch the field from time to time and as a dangerous KR. That's the best we can hope for out of Ginn.

Back to the draft drawing board for a real WR threat.

I find it hard to believe that 6'5" turner drops that ball on 4th and long. The one ginn dropped.

If he doesn't see action next week, i doubt he makes the team next year. He's this seasons Shawn Murphy

I find it even harder to believe that the 6'5" Turner would even have enough separation to even have it thrown to him.

On him completely no......but he's a choke artist. He's got very little business on the field other than at KR.

agree completely. its obvious to me at this half way point in the season we need one or two receivers, a tight end and some playmaking linebackers (at least two). I wasnt happy with Henning but I wasnt sure what he was supposed to do either. The Patriots dared us to pass, selling out to stop the run, an dwe failed to answer the challenge. We are back to the Marty Booker, Derek Hagan days again.

Our season is basically over although we are entering the easy part of the schedule now. We could have made the playoffs with this team if we didnt shoot ourselves in the foot early but the reality is we wouldbve been destroyed in the playoffs again so maybe its for the best. I'm sure they'll make it interesting though

Bottom line we desperately need a playmaker receiver, a tight end who can attack the seams, a playmaker outside linebacker who can apply consistent pressure, a playmaking inside linebacker who can shut down the run, stay with tight ends and running backs in coverage and blitz when necessary

We have to get those pieces. Until we get at least three of those we arent really a team worth bragging about

These Ginn debates every week are pathetic. The Front Office made a determination this offseason/pre-trade deadline that the WR position was sufficient. The Front Office made this bed and we as fans have to lay in it. Clearly, there's a lack of talent at the position, the horse is dead... let's stop beating it every week.

To be honest, I'm more pissed that Chad Henne is out there pulling a Chris Webber on the final drive of a very important divisional game. I understand that he's essentially a rookie in terms of professional experience, but that was embarrassing.

Sparano and the coaching staff better make him god damn aware of the importance of understanding the situation. Its just unacceptable.

Moss didn't have much separation on those TDs. But he comes away with the catch every time.

It's just more proof that we have a wasted pick in Turner. It sucks he can't get it together because he has the tools.

The reason Ginn was "barely on offense" is because he was demoted for dropping the damn ball. He had a great opportunity today to redeem himself. Game on the line...4th and 15...pass is for a 1st down...it is in both hands...and he drops it. This further cements his demotion.

Did other players drop the ball? Sure. Hartline dropped a crucial pass. He is a rookie. I don't expect greatness out of him at this stage. Bess dropped a pass. Undrafted FA...there is a reason he was undrafted. Still, he makes plays when he needs to. Camarillo...he has brain farts every now and then. He is coming back from an injury and is finally looking back in the swing of things. TE's? Drops there as well. But TE's don't come around often that are Gates, Gonzo, or Shockey.

This brings me back to Ginn. What makes him different than all of them? He was the #9 pick the draft. Better is expected out of him. He is allegedly the #1 WR on the team. Better is expected out of him. He has speed for days. Better is expected out of him. What have we gotten? We haven't gotten better...we have gotten worse out of him. The other WR's...though not as talented or gifted as Ginn...have played better than him when it has mattered most. Ginn has cost us 2 wins this year with his drops and today cost us an opportunity to further a drive at the end of the game that could have tied the game. That is 3 games his drops have had a direct impact on a W or an L. He deserves every bit of bashing and anger he gets from the fans and team.

dude your smoking....Dan Henne called one of the best games all year. The Patriots beat us because we can not throw the football. Our receivers are lame. Did you forget it was 17-16 almost going into the 4th. Our 2ndary is also mediocre. It will get better, right now we are not up to defending that kind of talent. We are close....just not there yet. They out lasted us.

When we get receivers like New England has then we can contend with the big boys......for now we will be able to steal a few games here and there. We are no better then 8-8. It sucks but it is the truth.

Neither Henne or Henning is the problem here

How has Bess been better THIS YEAR than Ginn? The only who's been better is Cam, and Bess seems to get targeted more than Cam. Those of you pissed at Ginn should be just as pissed at Bess. Bess is dropping everything.

Also, a little unfair to expect Ginn to come in cold and catch a bullet that is thrown high on 4th and 15. If he's not good enough to be out there when the game isn't on the line then don't throw him out there when it is. There's plenty of guys underperforming who aren't sitting...Bess and Porter come quickly to mind. Why the double standard?

If Ginn shouldn't be on the field then why the hell should Bess? I'm not defending Ginn anymore, but equal treatment. Bench both of them.

At least Ginn gives you something on returns, though. Bess has just been garbage this year. And don't bring up that nice grab he had on the PI, Ginn's had bigger plays on offense.

    1- Camarillo
    2- Hartline
    3- Turner

For the Tampa Bay game is what I'd do. Who cares at this point. You're 3-5. Season is done, IMO.

Explain what? The WRs suck, its plainly evident. Its not just Ginn or Bess, its the entire group of them. There's no point in bashing them every week. We're stuck with them through the remainder of the year.

The Henne situation needs no explaination. I expected there to be some growing pains taking over the offense from Pennington, but being unaware of the situation? It was flat out embarrassing.

How anyone can defend the defense or place most of our loses on anyone but them, is beyond me. Our offense is the only thing that has kept in the game.

Our front 7 sucks and our secondary is young. The secondary will get better, but the front 7????? Seriously, how many times does a team have to score on us, in a minute or two, every time we take a lead before the blame is placed squarely where it belongs...on the defense.

We can't stop ANY team consistently, yet we've been relatively consistent at scoring on any team, or controlling the clock, or putting up yards, etc. That's been the difference in just about every game.
