I am due for an upgrade and I am really leaning towards getting one on Fri.. I have been waiting for any new that Verizon and Apple will do the deal for the iphone but after seeing the adds for the Droid I am not so sure Verizon is looking to do that deal. Besides I have 2 other phones that will be up in April so if the deal gets done my wife can have the Droid:wink2: From all the early reviews I have been able to read and from talking to the Verizon guy for about an hour today, the phone sounds pretty bad-***.

I'm not with Verizon, but I'm in the market for a new phone and have decided it's gonna be Android-based.

Unfortunately I'll probably have to few months until the 1GHz proc models are more prevalent. That's the only thing holding me back right now (many of the models I'm looking at are said to be a bit sluggish at times).

Noteworthy: Google is working feverishly to put out it's own 'free' phone directly. Not thru the telecos. Free phone, free calling, etc. The catch is that ads will be served on it.

The days Apple (and thereby AT&T) dominating the smartphone landscape are coming to an end. Google is turning it upside down.

im not a fan of Android to much... It is good for somethings i had the G1 and im sure it gotten better since then, just when I look at all the demo vids it just still doesn't wow me.. I prefer my Iphone over it still.

That would have been my preference also, but I am not going to get an AT&T account just to get the iphone. Maybe if verizon does get the iphone next year I may switch up as long as the driod is not all it is looking to be.

i came into this thread expecting pictures of effeminate robotic servants or 3ft tall robotic trash cans that fix electronics and come to find it is about cell phones. i am severely disappointed.

I got the Storm 2 on saturday and a buddy of mine got the Droid. We were watchin football yesterday and comparing our phones. The Droid outperformed the Storm in every way possible. That phone is one bad mutha.. I'm takin the storm back this morning to get the droid. Tons of apps, most of which are free, and a superfast processor is what sold me. The storm was WAY behind in browser dept, imo.

 Thanks for that little side by side comparison now if Fedex would get it in gear and get here. I have a feeling it will be sometime in the afternoon when they get here though.

No problem..I just got home from switching it out. The phone is amazingly fast. I'd say almost as fast as my high speed internet on my home pc. Only downside I can see is battery life. But I can live with that, I'll just buy an extra battery. It's so crystal clear too. One thing too, is if you're watching a video or youtube clip and you get a text, it scrolls at the top of the screen and doesnt interrupt your vid playin. I was watchin a youtube clip w/ the storm and when a text came in it paused the video and then had to reload.

I'll be curious to know your review of it..

Here is my early use review. This phone is not intended for rednecks or atleast this redneck. With that said I really like the phone. Calls have been good and clear. The display is awesome! Super fast, down loads apps faster then my itouch (and no inputting your pass just to get a free app!!) I have not messed to much with the apps, grabbed a few really neat ones. The slide out key board feels sturdy but is a little awkward to type with:sad: Google maps looks like it will be simple to use and nice clear directions from the phone. Andriod market is not real pleasant to get around in but not painful. I really like being able to search the web by voice that is super cool.

My 2 biggest complaints there is NO owners manual with the darn thing!!! Just a small quick start guide.

2nd putting contacts in is a pain once it syncs up with your google account. I had to input contacts in on the computer to get them to show as a contact. If I did it over the phone they would not show unless I did a search for them. I am going to stop by the Verizon store to see what I am doing wrong.

Back to surfing the web....it is fast very fast:up:

As I play with it a little more I will give an update.

Regarding battery life, there may be some things you can turn off (when not in use) that will help.

I don't know what's running on your phone, but you might check things like wifi and bluetooth if you're not using them. Turn them on when you need them. Also consider using the automatic brightness feature. That way the phone can natively adjust as needed (screen uses a lot of juice). And set the screen to 'turn off' after a reasonable amount of time. That will also extend battery life.

The easiest way I found to add numbers and info to contacts is through google contacts. Actually, I figured it out by accident. I was trying to transfer number over from my old phone. Since I had backup assistant installed on my old phone, I just went to www.verizonwireless.com/backupassistant and downloaded my contacts as an excel spreadsheet. Then opened up the spreadsheet and saved it as a .csv file, and upload it into my google contacts.

So long story short, as long as in the excel .csv file the persons name is spelled the same... as long as youre syncing to GMAIL and your google contacts, you can upload any information that way.

I'm sure there's an easier way to do it, but whatever.... I'm done haha

Ok, so I went ahead and got a Hero today. Couldn't wait any longer. :D

Busy updating firmware and setting everything up, so I can't really say much. One thing I did notice in the store, looking at non-HTC phones, was how HTC's Sense skin makes Android prettier.

Girl with a curl now. ;)

Really digging this thing so far. It's still on Android 1.5 right now, but the fact that it has Sense gives it things 2.0 has.

Anyone who has an Android 1.5+ based phone (Motorola Droid, T-mobile G1, HTC Magic, HTC Hero, etc) can try the Tapatalk plugin for ThePHINS.com.

Go to the Android Market and search for 'tapatalk'. Install the free plugin and then search for our site in the directory. It's simply a different way to access the forum.

The Tapatalk plugin is free during the beta period. If it's anything like the iPhone version, it'll cost $2.99 for the full version once it goes final.
