Peyton Manning showed brief flashes of 1st round talent in those games whereas Beck has yet to show he's anything other than a future backup. He simply hasnt displayed any signs yet. Could he develop into a good QB?maybe, but I'm starting to think he's simply backup material. Let Beck start next year but let's have a rookie being groomed behind him so that if we get the same Beck next year we can switch gears midseason and start grooming our next hopeful. Keep doing it until we find one

Does anyone have any perspective on how close we were to making this game close today?

Despite the killer tunrovers, one went for an TD, the other led to a TD.

Our lack of depth in the secondary led to Travis "toast" Daniels man on man on Lee Evans, when we blitzed, we didn't sack Edwards.

And yet Samkon Gado scored twice, and came to play?

What made Mr. Gado so special today?

Why didn't Mr. Beck have the same effect?

    Here's my take:

    1) At 26 years of age, Beck cannot be afforded the same window of development that other rookie qbs get
    2) After playing just under 13 quarters, with a weak receiving corps and non-existent pass protection (in the last two games) it may be too early to give up on him
    3) Cameron's decision to bench him was questionable at best. If he does not return Beck to the starting lineup next week, it will serve to further stunt his development
    4) We probably should consider a quarterback, especially if we can trade down a few spots. Of all the prospects, my favorite is Woodson out of Kentucky.

I "get" what your saying adam4prez, Lemon showed the flashes that you are looking for, he made turnovers, yet he still made plays.

Exactly. Just make some plays. Any. That's what I'm looking for from a rookie. One here, one there. I expect the mistakes but I also want to see the potential:ffic:

Ok, I know I started the comparison, but Beck is not Manning and never will be. Beck did show some things in the first two games, but the situation he is in is a hard one to succeed in. Lemon did show some plays, but the playcalling was obviously different for him than it was for Beck. Maybe thats because he's a rookie and they don't feel comfortable with him running the entire playbook, or something else. But Beck has been handicapped by the playcalling and nobody can deny that. It wasn't like that strike to Ginn was a spectacular throw, Ginn was wide open and in fact had it led him a little better it may have been a TD. I'm not against drafting a QB this year and in fact I hope they do. But taking one in the 1st round would be a huge mistake when there are so many glaring holes on defense.

While I think that it's too soon to give up on Beck, drafting a quarterback is most definitely not a huge mistake. That position, more than any other, determines the overall fortunes of a franchise.

Not sure if there's a true No. 1 overall QB in this year's class, but if we can somehow trade down, I wouldn't mind grabbing a guy like Kentucky's Woodson.

Mind you, I hate saying that, because I don't think that you can judge a quarterback after just under 13 quarters of play, but at this point, I'm not sure that we can pass up the opportunity to drafta guy projected to be a franchise-caliber QB.

Exactly, Beck is making foundational mistakes, Lemon is making causational mistakes.

Lemon can dodge the blitzer presnap, Beck has no clue who the blitzer will be presnap.

Thats the thing. You can't afford to spend the kind of money it will cost on a QB at the first pick and as well as a high pick like that on a position where you might have your guy. If Beck doesn't work out next year then most likely you will have another top pick and you can go QB then. But until you know what you have in Beck you can't waste those kind of resources on the QB position.

For those that want Lemon back in the lineup here's a quote from the Associated Press on the game which talked about the play after a small about of success in the 3rd Q.

"Lemon and the Dolphins, however, quickly returned to their incompetent ways.

On Miami's next three possessions, Lemon threw two interceptions, including one picked off by Donte Whitner after the quarterback attempted a play-action fake with no one in his backfield."

I little comic relief in an incredibly painful season. I just can't believe Lemon didn't fool anyone with his play action with a ghost in the backfield. Beck should finish the season to see if there is anything there. If he plays like he has, we must consider a QB at 1.

With 3 QB's projected as first rounders, anyone think one of them might fall to our first pick in the 2nd?

For the record, Beck didn't trip over the center, his foot was stepped on.
I believe Cam took him out to protect him, he didn't even get a chance to throw the ball.

One thing I do wonder is why, oh why, didn't we put 4 wide and stick him in the shotgun for a couple of plays?

    OH well, maybe next year.

I was on again/off again about Cameron. I thought what he did at the beginning of this year with the offense was nice. However, after today, how can you not believe he is an incompetent coach? Honestly? We're getting crushed, we're in awful conditions, we haven't won a game and you take out what you believe is the future of this team? For a QB that is nothing but a backup? It doesn't make sense. Cameron is worthless. If he isn't an offensive coordinator/QB coach, he has no business being in this league. I'm ready to wash my hands clean of the Cameron era. What a joke!!!!

I'm still willing to give Cam his due time. With that said....

What Cameron did today was a BS move.

First he benches Beck. Okay. Questionable move as it is.

Then, when Cleo Lemon is in the game, that's when he wants to open up the offense. If I was in Beck's shoes, I'd be pissed off.

I dont think you can open up the offense with Beck at this stage. The guy is clueless in his presnap reads. He needs to hit the game film all offseason so that he knows where the pressure is likely to come from

I can understand that argument, but Cam put him in the game so he can be able to learn. And I don't think benching him after two throws is a right thing to do to a young quarterback.

That ticks me off even more. What kind of team does that? You need to play 100% no matter who is under center.

Brennan may be a possibility. I haven't given up on Beck though. I say they let him start the rest of the season and evaluate wheter or not to go a different direction. If Cameron is around next year I see almost no possibility of drafting a qb early in the draft.

The Phins don't a have huge investment in Beck. I believe his contract has only $2.26 million in signing bonus. If hes cut signing bonus is the only thing that hits the cap.

His total contract was about $10 over 4 years.

I wouldn't say that they didn't want Beck out there, it is more that they were going through the motions with Beck out there, when Lemon entered the game, they went beyond the motions.

Good QB's can do that, poor or unproven ones cannot.

Every player on the fins does not want to be part of 0-16.

Beck does not change the 0-16 trajectory, Lemon does, the players know this...

there is no sin in having two young QB'S on the roster, gives you better odds at hitting on somebody

Why does Cam roll Lemon out, while keeping Beck in the pocket?

Does Beck know the playbook? Can Lemon stand tall in the pocket(and deliver the ball)?

Seriously, the playcalling is funky atbest.

Yes he did... However, 90% of the fans wanted that change... IT didn't work. Beck wasn't ready... CAM is trying to find a win now and I believe he made the right decision...

I am sorry but I have to disagree... The first play by CLEO backed the defense off immediately... And that is the way it remained for the rest of the game... The passing game was respected... However, the running fell off due to the point spread...

Next week you will see a different team... One that will win...

Lets see one off the top of my head is ummm.. TOM BRADY.. for years he has had scrubs no named wide recievers and they managed to win a few superbowls..

They had NO star running back, no Pro-Bowl Wide Recievers.

I hate him with a passion and I feel they get all the breaks, but He came right in and made the team better.. We seem to do it backwards..

Im starting to miss the old Dave Wannstedt years at least we won a few...

Our respected passing game had 0 TD's today. Nobody is affraid of our offense.

So far this team is 0-6 with Lemon at QB and nothing is going to change next week.

I don't see a franchise QB in the draft this year... However, I think Beck will be a great QB in a year or 2... You really can't judge this boy over the past 4 games. If he had a full supporting cast on offense and defense, I believe this kid could be something special. But with the talent around him now, it is better that he was pulled instead of having another outing of multiple turnovers...

I disagree... I remember another QB that sputtered coming out the gate and turned into quite a good QB... Anyone know the name of BREES? Beck will learn from this... If he is the player we want, this benching will only serve as motivation for his next start...

FinFellas, this idea that John Beck is some sort of fragile flower of a mental case really, really offends me at least.

How is Beck going to be a playa if he is mentally weak? If sitting after stinking ruins him, then he should be cut as he cannot cut it so to speak.

The QB position is tough on everyone who plays it as a rookie, learn or go home.

I'm sorry... I don't see how CAM is at fault today... He made decisions and play calls that gave us the best to win. Execution was the bigger problem today and to be honest, if CAM hadn't replaced Beck, it would have been a mauling of grand proportion!!! That first play that CLEO hit with GINN backed off the pass rush and gave us an opportunity to make plays further into the game...

First off, for those of you say that the players "tried harder" or "stopped going through the motions" when Lemon came in, I must ask: why do you insist on attributing lack of execution to effort?

Did it ever occur to you that they simply settled down after a rocky start? Furthermore, it's not as if the offense was lights out with Lemon in the game. They turned the ball over repeatedly and were still pass protecting poorly.

And to the guy that mentioned Brees as an example of a young quarterback that bounced back (and to padre 31, who says that qbs should be able to deal with being benched):
Sure, Beck should be able to overcome this benching, but the problem is with Cameron.

If Beck wasn't ready to start then Cameron should have never brought him up. And if Beck was ready to start, then Cameron should have allowed him to take his lumps like so many other rookie quarterbacks before him.

I like some of the things that Cameron does, but I feel that this was another rookie mistake by the first-year coach.

Hey you all MAYBE this is good for him.

Look at the Bills Rookie for a second. 1 TD 5 picks in his first 4 games as a starter.

Gets hurt, but loses the job back to JP.

Well gains the job back because well JP is just horrible (you want a QB next year he is available for trade)

Come back in and has an effecient game against the skins. 0 sacks and 0 picks. And then against you all 4 tds and 0 sacks 0 picks.

Maybe this is what Beck needed.

Now I do think he has a bright future in MIA. And I am pulling for you now for the rest of the year to get your win.. Just did not want it to happen this week

No sir, that is absurd, few, precious few QB's have never been benched, it happens even John Elway was benched in favor of Steve Deberg, he somehow managed to recover from the trauma.....

The mistake is in thinking that every situation, either good or bad, is a learning process at the NFL level, that is insane, as if a QB threw 8 int's in a game, they somehow would be better for doing so, as once one has thrown that many Int's, one will know how to avoid doing so again.

My point exactly Padre... BREES was also on the short list until the third year... Sometimes it takes being benched to wake up the drive in the heart...

If it takes beck 3 years he will be 29 until he starts lookin good. Most QBs start showing their age around 31 or so, can we expect only 2 years out of him?
