About 5 weeks ago I started to feel a little under the weather but thought it might have just been a little cold or something. Then after a few days I felt sluggish but not really sick. Almost a week went by with feeling relatively well and then all of a sudden I got real sick. I tried to wait it out a few days because I never get sick but it just kept getting worse. I went to the doctors and had a temp of 104.5. They tested me and gave me some meds to help me get through it but told me I just have to wait it out. Well I finished the medicine after a week or so and then felt all better for about 4 days. And now I am back to being really sick again and and weighing my options. Should I go back to the doctors? Has anyone else had the Flu? I rarely get sick so I'm not sure what I should do. But it has now been about 5 weeks of sickness and I have had a fever everyday for over a week and I am forgetting what it feels like to not be sick. Sorry for the long write up. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated
I indeed had Swine Flu 2 weeks ago. First and formost, if you have a fever GET BACK TO DOCTOR. I was able to get into Doctor immediately when fever started. They put me on Tamiflu. It knocked the fever out same day, but some symptoms lingered on for about 4-5 days. I was anal retentive about secluding myself, using lots of hand sanatizer and Lysol spray, and made sure I washed clothes and sheets alone in hot water afterwards. Chances are good you had it, got rid of it, and recontracted it one way or another. Bottom line, if you have a fever, go see doctor EDIT: Oh, and of course I hope you feel better. I know it sucks.
Get to the doctors!! And for the rest of us - if you can - I suggest getting the vaccine! Last night, we got the whole family vaccinated - was supposed to be just the kids, but our doc got a whole bunch of doses in yesterday so the wife and I were able to as well!
Watch this. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja7lCIp04YY"]YouTube- Desiree Jennings Update - Woman with Rare Neurological Disorder from Flu Shot[/ame] I know the flu shot helps more people then it hurts, but buyer beware. When I was 28, I received a flu shot. 3 days later I had a stroke. Some Dr.s said it was because of the flu shot. Since then I have trusted my own immune system and still do alot of the stuff AZ said...using lots of hand sanatizer, Lysol spray, not touching stuff too many others touch. Just being anal about being clean.
104.5? You should have been delirious and needed hospitalization. That temperature in an adult is in the critical range. I hope you feel better. I got the H1N1 shot, as I work in the public arena and it was highly encouraged. The only side effect was that I slept more than usual the entire week following. Please go back to the doctor, preferably one who knows how to gauge adults' temperatures. Take care.
Thanks for all the help everyone. i am going to go to the doctors first thing in the morning. My temp as of 5 minutes ago is 103. Which medicine should I take to reduce it tonight? tylenol? Advil? ibuprofen? Or something else perhaps. Since I rarely get sick I never know what to take. Again, thank you all for taking the time to answer my questions and help out. I really appreciate you all.
Honestly, I am not an alarmist and I generally use nutrition and rest and herbal medications, but if your temp is 103, I STRONGLY recommend that you go to the ER right now. If you don't believe me, google adult temperature ranges. In fact, please have someone drive you there ASAP.
Yeah bro listen to her. if your body overheats, you could suffer brain damage. Hell it could be happening now. Time to go to the er, bro.
how coherent are you? vision ok? the main thing is you may be able to drive, but you don't want to collapse at the wheel.
I felt dizzy earlier But I am not at the moment. I think I can make it but I just really don't feel like driving 25 minutes and then sitting in the waiting room for a long time. But if its urgent as you all say then I will head over
If you havent done so already, please do brother. Take some Tylenol, give it 20 minutes and GO. One thing I know for certain, the Fever is indeed the KEY CLUE to the Flu. Pig flu or other, get in and get on the Tamiflu. What it does (Mal will come on and enhance my very laymen term) but what it does is stop the Flu from spreading throughout your body. Your body then can concentrate on a small area to fight. Much easier on you and your system that way. I have a wonderful 3 year old that had a fever of 102 at 2:00 AM. We took her in, got her on Tamiflu and within 12 hours her fever was COMPLETELY GONE!!!. Thats the Key, getting it early. EDIT: Forgot one unfortunate thing. The way they test for Flu is very physically violate your nose with a Q-tip...not a nice small one like you have in the medicine cabinet either
yeah man tell them you've had a high temperature it hasn't gone away. if you feel like you are getting dizzy. pull over dial 911. that would be my recommendation. do not hesitate to call 911, thats what they are there for.
Ok will do. Leaving in a few minutes and will ask for Tamiflu. Last time I went all they gave me was cough medicine and told me to take some Tylenol or nyquil. BTW it was a walk in clinic, not sure if that is different than a hospital as far as knowledge or care is concerned. Hospital for me tonight though. Thank you all again. I will update you all later and let you know how it goes. You are all the best.
Then call 9-1-1. They can get you on fluids that your body is burning up and get you to the ER and bypass the waiting stuff.
jackson do you have any other symptoms (the ones you say may just be unrealated) any swelling, aches, pains, etc? since its been over a month, make a chart of everything different (temp, pains, detailed disorientation, etc) and make an appointment with a doc u very well could have an underlying condition
Hey Everyone, went to the doctor last night and was there for a long time. They said I was badly dehydrated to they gave me an IV. I asked about Tamiflu but because I have had the symptoms longer than a few days they said it wasn't an option. After checking me out for a while and having two doctors look at me they decided to check for meningitis. So they are treating as if meningitis is the cause. I am bummed out because I am not accustom to being sick and it was all a little overwhelming. Never had an IV before. But I am feeling somewhat better today. They are going to call me sometime tonight and let me know. Thank you all for the help. Had you not all told me to go and stress the importance of it, things could have been very bad. The doctors seemed very nervous about how long I have been sick once they started testing for it. Thanks again you all.
glad you are feeling better bro. very glad you went, you did the right thing. ive been overwhelmed by being sick bro, and I grew up very sick lol. so no reason to feel bummed.
Yeah, as I mentioned with the Tamiflu, you have to get in and get on it as soon as you have fever. Nothing actually fights Flu (but your body that is) but Tamiflu inhibits spreading throughout your body so you have an easier time fighting it.....clear as mud? Anywho, very releaved to see your post Jackson. Meningitus can be pretty bad, but filling you full of liquids should help you on your way. Hope you get over it quickly brother
Thanks again everyone. You all helped me a lot. if I can return the favor in any way just let me know. It would be my pleasure
I've had what I thought or think to be the flu for the week, except I really haven't had much of a fever. Stuffy nose, severe lack of energy, muscle aches especially in my joints. I think the term is malaise, well I ve had it. Didn't get the vac but my kids did. Do u have to have a temp when u have the flu? Posted via Mobile Device
Glad you went to the Dr. Now, do what they say and take care of yourself so they'll be no set backs. Hope you're up and about soon.
Most times yes, but not always according to what I've read. I did quite a bit of research before I got the H1N1 shot.
Hope you feel better, and glad you went to see your doctor. Sorry you are not feeling well though and hope you hear good news from your results. Just remember to drink a lot of water and get plenty of rest. When I have the flu or cold the worst thing I do is rush myself to get better and usually make it worse, take time to get better, your health is always important.
