man I'm an idiot. I watched one game with Rutgers this year and missed scouting Anthony Davis. I wasted my time on Kevin Haslam who isnt worth bringing into camp even I'm one of the few who actually still likes Selvie and feel he's improved his game against the run somewhat from last year. I feel he's playing a bit more contained than years prior and it helps his overall game. Clearly the speed is theere but the rest of his game improved somewhat though not as nuch as people were hoping for a year ago. I like McCourty and feel he's good value 3rd round and on whiich might be slightly higher than you. I'm lower on Murphy though. Just dont like him at all Not as high on JPP as others are just yet but the potential is there. I think he may better served staying one more year and being king of the hill so to speak. he will be competing with a lot of DEs this year and it could cost him some money whereas if he goes back and gets better he's guaranteed first round money
Spiller just threw a nice TD pass!! Right now, there is no offensive player I'd rather have in the first round. I'll pass on Gresh for Graham, who might actually be the better pro 3 years from now. Posted via Mobile Device
Spiller is going to go close to the top 10, i dont think we will have a shot at him. I would like to draft both Gresham and Graham.
Taylor Mays. Here's a player who is so overrated that it's painful. Quite apart from everything else, watch the Stanford TD to the TE down the seam. Mays has that side of the field in deep coverage. The QB looks that way, fires.....touchdown. Mays is slow to react, slow to get across and the TD is his fault. What does he do? Tried the headshot on a TE who's already scored. The guy is so lacking in instincts.
I agree, although the caveat is this: Pierre-Paul said he had offers from Florida, FSU, LSU, Arkansas and Georgia, but those schools needed him to spend another semester at Fort Scott and join them in January. USF told him if he worked hard and finished a heavy courseload in summer, he could join in August. So it's not like he arrived out of nowhere. Teams clearly thought he was stud like. Yep, the lack of games will be a real issue, but at 6'6 and with an 81 inch wingspan........ Thing is, he's a pass rusher at the moment. Can you afford to carry JPP and Wake who can ONLY rush the passer?
Honestly, at this point, I think so. If you keep Matt Roth - which seems like a question mark at this point - then you've got your seven technique and then you slide over Jason Taylor to the weak side. On passing downs, you bring in Jason Pierre-Paul for Roth and I don't know how much you lose because I think Pierre-Paul can drop in zones if he's asked to. I also think that he has the strength and wingspan to set the edge, he just needs to work on technique.
Possibly, but it doesn't remove his lack of instincts. Plus, I'd rather have an OLB who plays OLB rather than an athlete in a helmet.
Does anybody else love Joe Pawelek as much as I do? To me he is the 3-4 version of Zach, kid may not be the fastest guy on the field, but all he does is make plays for Baylor. Very, very impressed with him. From what I gathered he is a mid-round prospect and a mid-round steal in my eyes. I also like Antonio Baker of La Tech at Free Safety, another mid-round type guy who I think could be a small school steal. You all already know how I feel about Golden Tate, McClain, and Dez Bryant.
I love the guy, and I'm pretty sure Alen does as well. If I'm not mistaken, Boomer has some good things to say about him too.
I don't think JPP is just a pass rusher. We'll see. Did anyone watch Pitt-ND? Talk about a receiver battle. Michael Floyd vs. Jonathan Baldwin. What...a...PLAYER Baldwin is turning into. That's everything, his fire, his energy, the incredible leaping ability, and HANDS. Not to mention he looks like he's got fairly decent speed and I like his build, as far change of direction goes and body control. The way Baldwin was playing, I wondereed why they didn't just call a deep ball to him on every play. Then I remembered that they're coached by Dave Wannstedt. My friend, a Patriots fan, was asking me who the Chris Johnson is in this draft, and who the Percy Harvin is in this draft. It's funny but they're located on the same team, the Clemson Tigers. I'll let you figure out which guy is which. Suffice it to say I think Spiller should get the Heisman. The more I watch Jared Odrick, the more I like him. I thought he had potential at the nose. He does. But he also has potential as a DE in the 3-4 or a 4-3 DT. He does it all. He's Sedrick Ellis to Ndamukong Suh's Glenn Dorsey. Or rather Suh is what Dorsey should have been, since Glenn has been a fat disappointment. Odrick has the full package, such active hand use and body position, and very strong lower body. He beats single blocks, including in pass rush where he's been a terror at times, and he also holds his ground like a stump when double-teams try and move him out of the hole. If this is Corey Wootton at 90% (as he says) then I can't wait to see him at 100%. Here's another QB to add to the list of guys with bright futures: Ben Chappell. Really good arm, accurate, big strong fella but the biggest asset is his pocket presence and ability to make throws under heavy fire. Reminds me of Jay Cutler in terms of his pocket presence...and that should be regarded as a hefty compliment, notwithstanding Cutler's total f-ckups this year with the Bears. He's a redshirt junior, but he probably won't come out this year I would imagine. I guarandamntee he'll climb the charts come next year. Does anyone else think Ricky Sapp is overrated? I don't see NFL forcefulness in his game. How long can Greg Hardy continue to be rated highly for what he DOESN'T consistently do on the football field (which is to say, play football)? Illinois has a big guard, Jon Asamoah, he's good at football. Willie Young may look the part but to me he's like the Chris Chambers of DE/OLBs. Great frame, great speed, something missing. I did a fair amount of work on him last year. I don't see NFL power or mental processing. Give me Ben Tate in round three any day. Riley Skinner gets no damn respect. There are guys rated ahead of him that have absolutely no business there. I'd love to see him get the invite to an All Stae Game and just knock it out of the park. Such a good high school player. Four year starter in the ACC. The best offensive player he's ever had at Wake Forest has been Steve Vallos a couple years back, who is an overachieving OL that played LT for Wake and moved to Center in the NFL.
agree on OG jon asamoah of Illinois. He caught my eye recently. could be a good find late in the draft i dont know what to make of odrick yet. he looked great against ohio state but then i'm not impressed with ohio states offensive line. ive seen in some other games earlier where he seemed to disappear for long stretches. has he been dinged up at all earlier this year? his play from game to game has been so across the board that i feel i still dont have a grasp on him. there is talent there but i just dont know how excited to get about him yet i didnt take notes on willie young but came away impressed after the florida state game. now i'm going to have to reevaluate him with the points you bring up. damn you ck and the extra work you put me through
So you think Jacoby Ford is this years Harvin, CK? And I'd love to get Ben Tate in rd 3 and have him here ready to take Ricky's place in 2011. I still really like Dwyer too though.
Odrick lives up to the billing. I would guess his build and ability to get to the QB make him more suited to DE rather than NT in a 34 defense. Yes.
Right now DE. When he's 100% and he's got some of his explosiveness back, that's when we can talk about different positions.
I don't necessarily need Odrick to be flashy. What originally caught my eye was how he was able to use leverage properly to not be moved by double teams. That's NT all the way. It may look ugly but you hold your ground. And when they single-block you, you have to be able to always get off that block and make a play on the ball.
With the caveat that there's only one Percy Harvin and his name is Percy Harvin, yeah Jacoby Ford as a prospect reminds me a bit of Percy. He's like an A Back, something along those lines.
Looks like a goddamn caveman. I seriously doubt he has the wheels to make it at the next level. But another Alstott, something like that, who knows?
Ford makes CJ look pedestrian when they're side by side on returns, so he definitely has some potential if he can be utilized better. I'd rather have him than Ginn at this point.... and Ford is faster, tougher, and shiftier IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if he ran a 4.19 at the combine.
Have that Pitt game on tape but Baldwin is a really good player. Spiller or Gerhart should win. But I don't think either will. Got to disagree with you on Dorsey. I've seen a few KC games this season for my sins and he's turning into a very solid player at DE. Not yet worthy of that high billing, but certainly playing well. I like Odrick's work rate. He never takes a down off. You're Wootton crazy! Sapp and Hardy belong in Haden and Mays' club.
You know what, someone's going to get themselves a heck of a contributor on offense and special teams. He has great patience and can really pass protect well. His hands are good and you simply can't ignore the fact that against two top 10 teams the last 2 weeks, he has 400+ yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. His lack of speed might kill him but if you look at where a guy like Jacob Hester went, then I think he'll go in rounds 2/3.
Jacob Hester was overdrafted...but Gerhart is a lot better than Jacob Hester so I could see him going there.
Ford has missed his share of passes, but I've seen Ginn drop more and shy away from more contact than Ford over the course of this entire season to be honest. Where Ford is steadily improving his skills (which I like), Ginn seems to be regressing. Ford also has lasers thrown to him <by Parker>. Jacoby definitely doesn't have Mardy Gilyard hands, but he's not Derek Hagan either. LOL.
Wanted to update you guys on this. NFL teams have officially started to receive game tape from colleges as the NCAA and the NFL agreed on a one year deal. However, the NFL has been forbidden to show game film on NFL Network's College Football show.
Worked through that ND/Pitt game. Lot going on. First off, how did Dion Lewis only get one scholarship offer? Ridiculous. What a beautiful runner to watch and his vision is stunning. I hope for his sake he fills out physically over the next three seasons, although he dished out a few poundings running inside. His 2nd and 3rd level acceleration is something to behold! Oderick Turner is a big target who waa as inconsistent as usual, whilst Nate Byham will make a roster as a blocker. Good to see Dorin Dickerson get some love. He's too lightweight for us, but those hands and that athleticism is going to get him a contract. Joe Thomas played pretty well in the run game, but struggles in pass pro. He's a good puller and when he initiates contact at the 2nd level, his technique is excellent. I hope Cleveland draft him so that they can play Joe Thomas at left tackle and Joe Thomas at left guard. Defensively for Pitt, Greg Romeus is a LDE in the NFL. He's not consistent enough as a pass rusher to play right end. This is the 2nd time I've seen him recently and come away disappointed with his rush ability. He's very one dimensional and did nothing until the end, although he did block a FG. Paul Duncan who isn't as highly rated as Sam Young at tackle, did a strong job of neutralising Romeus all game. He showed goot footwork and strength when Romeus bullrushed him and allowed him to get inside him and close but locked on and gave him no ground at all. Jabal Shear the other Pitt defensive end was much more of a threat than Romeus. Jared Holly looks a good player down the road at safety. And of course Jonathan Baldwin was sensational. He really reminds me of another Pitt alumni, Larry Fitzgerald. His length, his ability to go up and get the ball, his routes and the way he gives the ball back to the refs. High 1 when he declares. Notre Dame are such a badly coached team, especially on defense. They have no one at linebacker whatsoever. At safety Sergio Brown doesn't look a player on any level and his open field whiff on the long Lewis run underlined his bad game. Michael Floyd dropped more passes in a game than I've seen him drop in about the last 6. But he can play.
