Chad Henne continues to impress me So he throws a horrible pass that gets intercepted and leads to the Bucs taking the lead with a little over a minute to go, but he doesn't let it get to him. He takes over around our own 15 yard line and moves the offense down the field quickly by making a few terrific throws. Just like that, Carpenter nails the FG, the Dolphins win the game, and Henne has his second career 4th quarter comeback. Henne has it all, and he has proved he can come through in the clutch.
I think he has all the tools, both mentally and physically, to be as least as good as Big Ben. And that would be mighty fine for me. Now, we just need to get him some consistent playmakers at WR. And that will happen in time. So far, though, he's been solid, and he was a big reason for the win today. He doesn't back down, nor get nervous. HUGE attribute for a good QB.
I didn't see the game today, but to hear Rocky describe Henne's short memory is certainly encouraging. I honestly think he's got all the tools, and just needs experience, protection and weapons to ascend to the upper echelon of NFL QB's. By this time next year we may all be in awe. Let's hope! ??? I'm not impressed, however, he has the rest of the season to prove/improve himself. Nothing can be discerned by the few games he has played up until now, maybe, Thursday will be his coming out.
Henne can't have a 'coming out' until he plays an entire game or 2 under center, in the shotgun, etc .... depending upon RBs status ... we just may get that ... there aren't too many veteran QBs that can come in like he does .... what i want him to do is work the offseason with Marino ... not Pennington ... Chad has given him just about all he probably has to offer ... no show him the other side of the mountain! Henne is our guy ... he just needs work, and a big time WR ... 23, how can you call for the triad of terror ... when its not likely to happen ... and not root for this guy. Henne is going to be our QB for the next decade ... 2/3ds of your triad might not even be on the team next year (albeit JT is still playing well as he can at this point)
You know what the kid is still learning I get it, but im seeing a trend here, IM having flashbacks of all our previous QB's before Pennington who were tossing 18-30 for 130 yards and I get sick.. Again I know hes young but it seems that all our QB's never get good numbers. I know we run alot and that cool, but over the years we have had some decent talent on the offense and we still got those sub 300 yard games. It sickens me to see all the rookies, and 2nd year guys tossing 250+ each week. I dont know if its because our offense sucks yet again or if the QB's just are not up to speed of the other starting QB's.
he doesn't even get the opportunity to throw 250+ yards a week ... he is playing in a safe offense, a la Pennington ... you will have to wait until next year to see anything different. a glimpse should be these last minute drives he is providing ... the kid can do it ... but he needs a WR to throw it to ... and then an OC that will call the plays. he is doing fine within the confines of the system he is playing in so far.
In my humble opinion, there is no excuse to play like that when the game is on the line and poorly the rest of the time. It's the same reason I don't like Big Ben. Sure you can dig out of holes, but if you put the shovel down you wouldn't be in one in the first place. A game has four quarters, every play should be executed as if it's the most important.
he's made some incredible plays despite his horrific receivers. can't ask for much more out of a guy who's only started a handful of games.
I thought the turnover that he made was a bad decision on his part and a good read by Quincy Black I think it was. Black made a nice play. Henne tried to squeeze that in for whatever reason and paid for it. However, as you guys noted, he bounced back well and didn't try to do too much after that. He didn't try to make up for the mishap, instead he took what was given to him and I think that's very important. He can't force things because that's how he loses us games. When he's patient and takes what is given to him, then he does well and so does our offense. Overall though, I've been impressed with him. I think this staff didn't want him to really play this year as much as he has because if one remembers, Sparano said he would just give him some game time situations so he can start getting a bit comfortable and honestly, before the Chad Pennington injury, I don't recall seeing Henne in any game situations. I remember White coming in before him in Atlanta and that's it. I think that speaks on the staffs take on Henne and how they felt he should learn one more year. However, with Pennington's injury, he was forced in and is now learning on the full-time job. He's suffered some growing pains, such as today, but he flashes potential and I think it'll all come together for him once they build a quality supporting cast around him. He's got Greg Camarillo, Davone Bess and Brian Hartline doing work for him right now and those are three guys that honestly I don't think belong on the flank. Maybe Camarillo but these guys are most comfortable working the slot IMO. Bess came up big today but we need a guy who can stretch the field and catch the ball down it. I know we've got Ginn and I know everyone feels like kicking his *** at this point but what can you do? I don't see him here after this year, honestly. Probably gone to Baltimore for a fifth rounder. Baltimore has wanted a guy who can stretch the field dating back to February and March, when they were hot for Derrius Heyward-Bey, who's been a no show in Oakland. I got a bit off-topic there so to bring it back, I think Henne's done well considering what he has to work with. He's had little impact from the tight end position, the wide receivers have been up and down, the offensive line has been leaky at times and we still manage to put up 30 points but the defense allows 34. Just that kind of year. Next year, I think it'll be different.
Exactly Alen...growing pains. Give the kid a chance, and I think we'll be singing his praises in the not too distant future. Go Phins, and Go Helmet Head. Er, I mean Henne!
Yup Henne showed some nice poise out there. I was freaking out after that god awful pass. Imagine what he could do with Receivers that can catch?

You have to, just have to love how the last few minutes of that 4th quarter played out. Sure the pick sucked, it was a great defensive play too however. But for Chad to come back out there after the pick that game the bucs the lead, and to hit on a couple of great passes to help get us down field to set up the Ricky run, is impressive. Most young, in experienced, "rookie" qb's wouldnt have that much poise, and confidence to get back out there and have that "short memory" and go out there, and lead us to the win. Got to love that!

They really don't do him many favors with the playcalling, it seems. I'm sick of him being yanked out when he gets into a rhythm throwing the ball and being put in 3rd and long situations because they go wild cat on 1st and 2nd down or get cute with a reverse or something. He's been great at converting on 3rd down, but it also seems like about the only time he throws down the field is on 3rd and long, too, aside from a couple plays today. I was impressed with the way he came back after the pick, which was a terrible decision and throw. That completion to Bess (right before the long Ricky run) was very nice-and a really ballsy throw. I almost couldn't believe he stuck it in there. It was a very small window.
Henne definitely impressed at times and specially on the last drive to make some of those throws in pressure situations, but please don't even mention that pick as being even a good defensive play. The ball was thrown right to the linebacker and if he wasn't there the DB would of picked it off. That was an outright terrible decision in a big spot and there no way around that.
I like him also but take the glasses off. He tried to lose the game for us. I guess in that position if we are not good enough to pass it for 3 yards or run the ball. Maybe it was a bad play call. We could punt. He has not done anything above average yet or anything to jump up and cheer about. I hope it happens for him though. Are you watching Brady right now? I hate the guy but he has some weapons there. I guess he would be average here too.
And that's exactly the way it should be. We're a running team. If we're going to be doing any passing, it will have to wait until we get WR's, and linemen who can pass block. Until then, expect a lot of 150 yard passing games.
Are you serious?? Did you WATCH that Monday night game against the Jets?? He displayed EVERYTHING you want in a franchise quarterback that night, and against a pretty aggressive defense. He made clutch throws all 4th quarter long and continuously drove us down the field to retake the lead and win the game. Remember those 2 throws to Camarillo on the final drive? I'm not saying he is a Pro Bowler, but I'm excited about him. Very excited.
Henne is as good as Flacco Or Ryan? he's had a year & a half as an understudy no excuses, the team is his & his alone now is the time to make his bones We must have the Franchise QB to take the next step he has plenty of time, all I'm asking is for him to do it I refuse to not watch the reality of our games unfold Henne needs to step up, take command & throw the ball better, communicating effectively with this Receiving Corp time & the schedule now favor him, may he be successful
Are you frustrated with his play? The guy is only doing what is asked of him. I think the one thing that he has shown is poise in the pocket. When Jake Long gets beat on a passing down, no one says anything. When Donald Thomas gets blown by, no one says anything. Our offensive line can be pretty bad on passing downs. Couple that along with the types of defenses Miami has played, and you get "sub-par" performances from your QB. Add a WR corps that drops balls at the most inopportune times and you get ugly numbers on the stat card. This is not about Henne. This is about the team. Sparano wants a tough, physical O-line to support the running game. Well, he has one. But they can seem inert in the passing game at times. Why hasn't the team opened Henne up? They do not have to (necessarily). Not now, anyway. They know about the WR situation. They know that the running game can win games, but it is the defense that has been a little erratic. I am not too worried about the offense. It's refreshing to see Miami have the ability to score 30+ pts a game. Our offense, sans a WR, is fine. Looking at Matt Ryan, he's struggled as of late. In his last 3 games he has thrown 3 TDs to 6 INTs. And in Flacco's last 3 games, he has 3 TDs to 2 INTs thrown. He's not exactly Peyton Manning, either. Henne's last 3? 2 TDs to 1 INT. Henne is not lighting up the world, either, but sitting behind someone and playing are two totally different things. Ryan and Flacco have over a year (including playoffs) of experience ahead of Henne. They should be lighting it up, right??? Well, they started off the season with a blast, but teams have caught up to them. Doesn't Ryan have a pretty good offense surrounding him, too? I mean, Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, Michael Turner. We have Ronnie and Ricky. This is what Miami is, for now. Teams hate playing Miami because of the physicality. We're a tough team, despite Chad Henne's play.....
Thing is, I'm very surprised they let him throw in that situation,with the lead,and the Bucs only having one more T-O to burn. That being said,I agree that Henne showed much poise after throwing a horrible ball right into the eyes of the D.He made some great passes with the Bucs knowing he 'was' throwing on that last drive.That to me shows alot of character and confidence.We have a true gem here,guys.Just get him more consistent targets and he'll be a borderline All-Pro in the future.
I've also been very impressed with Henne. Sure he's not putting up Peyton Manning type numbers. But he also doesn't have a Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark or anything even close to this caliber of player. He's making great throws. I see him throwing the ball with some of the same accuracy as the greats. The receivers are either dropping the balls, or just not making plays. All that being said, the guy is 4-2 as a starter folks. What is there to complain about? He isn't making many mistakes and has two 4th quarter comebacks under his belt. Chad Henne can play in this league. He will get better with time and when the FO improves the quality of the WRs. The numbers will come. For now, let's just be content with the wins.
He displayed a skill that is absolutely crucial for a QB, the ability to bounce back from a bad play. He WILL throw INTs, no QB is completely without them. However what's important is that he limits them, and can bounce back for them and not play timid in the passing game. Real QBs like Peyton Manning, and even Brett Favre don't let that sort of thing limit their passing game. And that is absolutely crucial if we're going to have a deadly passing attack when we build up our WRs.
Let's be happy Henne can bounce back from a horrible play and not cry on the sideline and act like a prima donna with a little prepared speech with notecards at a press conference like he's the President. henne is one of the best stories we have going this year. he's certainly not peyton manning yet but he's shown things in his limited time that should get everybody excited. his intangibles are great, his demeanor is that of a winner, he's tough, has a gun, decent accuracy, good decision making overall. he still needs to improve his deep accuracy but he's close. he still needs work on pre snap recognition but so does every young QB. We have to get him better pass protection and receivers who can get open with more frequency
That last drive was a thing of beauty. All you can ask from your QB when they make a mistake is to forget about it and get the next one. Been a long time since we had a guy who could drill passes like that on the final drive of the game.
the season will reveal the truth in every position plenty of time left to adapt & grow or parish Thursday night's game just a few days away I'm looking for improvement, innovation & a lot more attitude
Showing that he has that resiliency this early in his career is very impressive. If not this year, it surely provides hope for next year that with an easier schedule and a stronger team that we'll be playoff bound.
