I'm thinking maybe keep Ted Ginn on the roster strictly for kickoff returns, until he proves he's worthy as a starter. He just isn't getting the job done at receiver. The Dolphins have to find a go-to guy in his place. Wide receiver is the position the Dolphins are hurting at the most. I believe, if they added a clutch receiver they would be the elite team they had been in the past.

He should be a number three or four receiver, used primarily as a deep threat. His big dollar contract is something the Phins are going to have to renegotiate.

Actually his cap hit is less then 2 million a year... While its certain he is not playing nearly as well as he could or anything like a number 1 his cap hit isnt bad. If we cut him it will be because we have a better player to replace him with, not because of his cap number.

Unfortunately, no one else currently on the roster can offer what he can - so he gets playing time by default.

Seems like a pretty huge oversight by the FO not to have another speed option at WR. We have 3-4 possession guys and one speed guy.

Also - if we do go out and get a legitimate #1 - I think it only increases Ginn's value. Even his biggest detractors mostly complain about what is going on between his ears (lack of physical play, drops). If the pressure of being a #1 and his draft status were taken away by a stud on the other side, I could see him turning into the next Tony Martin.

Add in his KR ability and I would take that in a heartbeat.

His cap hit JUST ON THE PRORATION OF HIS BONUS is $3.7 MILLION PER YEAR...plus his salary.

His cap number this season is about $4.7M.

    For 4-6 touches a game, that's pathetic.

I completely agree.. Unfortunately Cam didnt draft him to be a number three receiver, but at this point i think everyone will take whatever improvement they can get from him, and having a quality receiver opposite from him could ease the pressure a bit.

Put a skirt on him and let him tryout to be a ballerina.
The way his legs flail every time he jumps unnecessarily for a ball is truly a thing of beauty.

I've been ripping the guy since the minute we drafted him (I know, pretty unfair of me) but I am really starting to feel bad for him as well.
I don't think it has anything to do with Money.
From all accounts, he is a great guy, and a class act.
That being said, I doubt anybody in here is more disappointed with Ted Ginn than Ted Ginn himself. I am sure some of the golden opportunities that have hit him directly in the hands, and then fallen to the ground replay over and over in his head.
Hell, I remember days of playing Sweeper on my high School Soccer team, and its the bsd plays I made that stand out.

The only thing I can say about Ted Ginn that isn't his fault is that it's not his fault Cam Cameron picked him with the overall 9th pick in the draft. That's on Cameron. That high of a pick demands high expectations. Ginn is an above average kick returner, but he's not even close to being worthy of a number one receiver spot, and you don't pick kick returners with the ninth pick, or in the first round for that matter. His speed is great, but if he can't catch (a pass) what good is all that speed?

Well one thing is for sure, he's got the rest of the season to turn around. I really like the guy, and want him to succeed. However, I also want a Super Bowl caliber team more, and that one wins out.

So if he can't be who we need him to be, and the cost doesn't justify a move to just KRs, then he's going to need to find another home.

Oakland could be a likely drop spot for Ginn as Oakland does prefer very fast wide receivers who cant catch

think we should open up our passing game now and that would mean targeting Ginn more than a handful of times per game. I would like to see Ginn targted approximately five to eight times per game. Also start running him on crossing routes, drags and slants. I would also start playing Pat Turner. Our running game should disappear now. We will be forced to develop a passing game. We will need Ginn to be targeted often to open up the game for Camarillo, Bess, Hartline and hopefully Turner.

I would really like to see us activate five receivers tonight and go to some 4 receiver sets out there. Lets open it up. If nothing else, it accelerates Henne's learning curve plus we get to see if we need to upgrade our offensive line with an additional pass blocker. We might have to draft a Offensiove guard next draft. Might as well figure that out as quickly as possible.

I also want to see Sheets. I really like what he brings potentially. I heard he was out of shape when we got him. I hope he's ready anmd can contribute. I think he could really bring some bang to our offense if used correctly

    1) the running game will be stronger than before if the Pod does their job
    2) Henne has to step up
    3) look for both Pat's to be in the game & the new WC to be launched
    4) the real war will be in the trenches tonight
    5) GinnJr: Special Teams, an occassional 4th WR

You must not have seen the new NFL rule. Playaction must be employed on every passing play or else it is ruled an illegal forward pass.

At least thats what it said in the note Belicheck sent to Henning.

We are stuck with the bonus cap hit no matter what, aren't we? He costs more than he is worth, but he is worth enough to keep around. Sweeping the Jets earned him his money this year IMO. This is just the way the NFL goes with rookie salaries being the way they are. You miss, or even just over draft someone, and you are stuck with the salary. However, by the same token we are paying Henne way less than he worth. Compare his Salary to dirty Sanchez, Russel, Quinn etc... If you hit often enough in the draft you can overcome or at least balance out the misses.

Play'em. We have to. You remember people (Prez and others) talking about Ted Ginn keeping safeties deep and thus opening our run game?

    Pause this video @1:48
    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...ee18/WK-9-Playbook-Dolphins-vs-Patriots-recap

This the Pat white option play... Look at where the safety is on Ted Ginn's side. He is 23 yards off the line of scrimmage! The safety was lined up so far back that I didn't even notice he was on the field. I thought it was an official. Compare his depth to the other safeties. It's not even close. Does the safety line up THAT deep if it's Greg Cam on that side?

It's fair to say that NE wasn't going to allow Pat White to throw deep to Ginn on that play. So that is Ginn effectively eating up two defenders. That safety isn't giving run support from that far back.

EDIT: So look at the numbers game now. Ginn eats up two defenders. That leaves us 9 blockers on 9 defenders. You dream about getting that type of numbers game in the run game. Now your ball carrier doesn't have to make a man miss ( numbers wise ) to have a successful play.

I think we go with this teams strengths. Oline + running game. We don't have playmakers at the WR position. So why go 5 wide (if you mean 5 WR's) and take out our playmaker Ricky? Also lets give Lex a shot. We don't know what he can do. I say we keep the offense the exact same ( for the most part ). We can still go 4 WR + 1 TE if we want. Is our 5th receiver a good matchup against the Dime back? We don't know yet. I say we stick with the core of what this team does well.

We can't replace Ronnie; but Lex has shown signs and Ricky still makes plays. We WERE relatively deep at RB so lets give it chance and stick with the strength.

    Keep him.
He's one of the best KR options.
Put him at PR and make him one of the best PR options.
Allow him to run his few plays a game and throw him the ball when he is open.

We're never going to get much value for him, no use to get rid of the KR/PR we were searching for all throughout the pre-season and trade deadline when we have him right now.

Keeping him primarily for kick returns and possibly punt returns is fine, as long as they renegotiate his contract accordingly.

If we could have White fake a hand off and throw to Ginn on a quick slant he could take it to the house. (he'd have to catch it of course.) The whole middle was wide open. That's why White's in the game isn't it? To open up pass plays when the defense commits to the run.

    this cracked me up.

ginn has some attributes that are valuable to this team, but he has a contract that is first-round money.

currently he helps stretch the field, which is a value in and of itself. he also has the ability to make long returns on kicks, which is also valuable. i question whether this value is worth the amount of his contract, honestly. his presence also uses up a gameday roster spot. is a decoy on offense worth a roster spot? right now, yes.

personally i'd rather have a legitimate deep threat that can play all game, not just a decoy - but the fact is we don't have that. until we get that guy, and a replacement for kick returns, we pretty much have to keep ginn, IMO.

for me the biggest issue is his contract.

Sorry but I think that's a recipe for disaster......lay everything at the feet of our young, in-experienced QB with Ted Ginn as his go to guy? Why on earth would we do that? Do you want to turn Henne into Beck?

Unless you're sending Ginn deep on a fly pattern, he's pretty much useless as a WR. And while I agree opening up the passing game would be nice, it's just not feasible.

You can't force Ginn to be something he's not and in most cases, we would be better served by targeting a diff WR.
