Hi all, Some of you may have seen my post in the 'Introduce yourself' part of the forums, if not i am brand new to the game and am going to need a little help for a while i learn the game providing all you great people can help of course. So heres my first question, On the home page for thephins.com, the newest news item states miami are .500 team for the first time in 2009. What exactly is a .500 team? Thanks in advance. Si
Welcome chocky .500 refers to the team's winning percentage. A .500 record means we have won 50.0% of our games, which is true with us being 5-5. We have won 5 out of 10 games, so our winning percentage is .500. If we were currently 2-8, we would have won 2 games out of ten which would give us a winning percentage of .200. For another example, let's say we finish the season at 11-5. This would give us 11 wins out of 16 games, making our winning percentage about .688. Hope that answers your question
Just simple math, divide you number of wins by the number of games played and you get your winning percentage. wins/games played = Winning %
Welcome to the site. I can't find it at this time but there is a thread where you can ask all the questions you like about football in general.Give me a sec. and I will look again.
As has been stated before. The .500 means 50%. Meaning we have won 50% of our games. We're 5-5, so we're a .500 team.
Welcome aboard Chocky, if you have any other questions about the game like "offsides vs encroachment" or "pass interference vs illegal contact" feel free to ask...

If you want to know something ask away. Don't forget there is a PM function here. I'll be glad to help you out.
Ask away, but don't ask Padre. He barely knows who HE is, let alone what anything else is. And lets not even get into Lucky or Sam.
I think Cocky could help me with some UKisms in exchange for help with footballisms? Talking out of your hat? Sam is better if you catch him before his eggs and potatoes and Bloody Mary breakfasts, with Lucky...when he is excited he starts posting in Espanish..
He speaks Spanglish, but he types in Espanish when he is excited. Ate your hat? PM me if you need some food aid or something Conu, we are family here...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_American_football This may help. American football has it's roots from rugby, and maybe a little soccer, which you may be a wee bit familiar with. I had the same problem understanding soccer. I was told it's non-stop action but, did not see the action until I understood the game. Now, I'm a big fan.
I could teach you some great words I utilized yesterday. I even combined them in new creative manners.
LOL. I'm a Sci-Fi fan, and Irish. The new Battlestar Gallactica invented a word known as "Frak," as well as "frakin." The Irish and English have been using a word called "s h i t e" for centuries. Yesterday I used these word by themselves, and in many assorted combos, adding in a few American words as well, as much as they were used in the entire TV series and quite possibly the centuries of usage in Ireland and the UK. We need to compare notes. LOL
Guaranteed I could run him close with my creative mixing of swear words into one Welcome to the madhouse m8 , nice to see another fan from the UK find their way here. Top board ,excellent people, you will enjoy it here. While we asking questions , someone exlplain the linebacker positions , Mike etc , so I can show it to my m8 who is a ******ed Rams fan.
