for all the heat charlie casserly took for drafting mario williams over reggie bush... he was right!!!! bush has been nothing more than a 3rd down back and has never established himself as an every down RB!!! on todays pre-game show on cbs... casserly stated that mcfadden was the best player in this draft... I for one will take hime for his word... and hope miami takes him!!! this offense is worse than terrible... he also stated that there are several good Dlineman that will be available within the 1st round... and on that list was a kid from north carolina... kentwan belmar!!! if he's available at the top of round 2... maimi should take him... i believe in charlie casserly's evaluations!!!! and hope we as dolfans can now see what other nfl type evaluators are seeing about the 2008 draft!!!!

As with most of you guys and gals, I have been going round and round about our 1st pick, and as much as I am tempted to say that we should go with McFadden, I don't think it would be our best choice in the long run. If we were a player or two away from making some serious noise then I would probably go with him, but sadly we are far from fielding even a half way decent team. Truth be told, I think we need to continue building this team from the inside out because both of our lines need so much work and we are not a year or two away from making the playoffs. So, since there is not an offensive lineman grading out at the very top, if we are not able to trade down, I would toss in my two cents for either Chris Long (DE), Cedric Ellis (DT), or Glenn Dorsey(DT).

    Darren McFadden

At first, I hated the idea of this pick. I wanted Glenn Dorsey or possibly trading down for more picks. I never even wanted to think about wasting the #1 pick on a position in which we already have one of the NFL's best.

However, the past few games I have watched, while the defense has gotten much better, it has become painfully obvious that this team needs a big playmaker threat.

Last year the Dolphins drafted Ted Ginn, hoping he would be a playmaker in this offense. While he has been, an injury to Brown and the trade of Chambers has basically made Ginn's speed threat useless outside of returns.

Having Darren McFadden alternating with Brown would be the two-back threat that works for teams such as Jacksonville (Taylor + Jones-Drew) and Dallas (Jones + Barber) allowing for a mixture of power and speed for the best possible production from your backfield.

I for one am now a strong supporter of McFadden.

and PS, it has nothing to do with the fact him and I share a birthday

How can you justify having one of the Best

Ronnie Brown a 2nd Overall Pick

and wanting to draft another RB 1st overall.

That would be a TON of money tied up in one position

Running Back is the 1 position we DO NOT need.

Well who is out there that can help this team get back to it's feet?

Yes, we do have alot of needs, and Runningback may not be one of them, but what is a need, as I said, is a big playmaker threat.

Im not saying I wont like picking Dorsey or one of the Long's, but if this team wants to be a contender again, they need a McFadden.

And also, I dont know if you people have noticed, but the Patriots are still undefeated. The last thing we want them to have is yet another playmaker. And if Miami doesn't take McFadden, or trade with someone who will take him, he will be a Patriot next year.

I do not think he will be a Pat next year. They need Defense their is getting old.

Also McFadden will not really do anything but give you a ton of money tied up at RB

I mean you will only play one at a time.

Yes, but it allows for a change of abilities. Brown the powerback, and then add in McFadden for speed. I already used examples, but I will say it again, it works fine for Jacksonville and Dallas

I'm an advocate for taking McFadden. This guy is an Adrian Peterson type of back, something that Ronnie Brown, unfortunately will never be. Especially since he's coming back from a major knee surgery. If people are so worried about having money tied up in the RB position then how about they trade Brown to someone that wants a RB for some extra picks. Then we get the extra picks we want and also have a solid, big time, play making back. I don't think people realize how good this guy is. He can score any time he touches the ball. Is there anyone on the Dolphins that can do that? Then we can take a QB with later picks.
I see no way the Patriots pass on him with #2. They won't need a defense because because they'll score 50 a game so even if they give up 40 they'll still win. They might have back-to-back 16-0 seasons.

I think Glenn Dorsey doesn't get the recognition he deserves as a playmaker on defense. He would make the front 7 better all around, and yes, that would impact the game better than anyone on these boards understands.

He could eat up blockers, he could rush the passer, and he could play all the spots on the D-line. He's a great player and its a shame people keep thinking sexy pick with mcfadden and not logical pick with Dorsey (Or Chris Long)

Yes it does work fine for them.

But do they have a 2nd overall and a 1st overall doing it.

Comeon a rebuilding team cannot have all that money tied up in ONE postion

A rebuilding team needs to build a team through young players in the draft that can get the job done.

Mauia, Beck, Satele, Roth, L. Booker, Hadnot, and probally a few others I cant remember right now. These are all solid young recent draft picks that were not taken in the first round.

Thomas and Taylor were not 1st rounders either.

These players get the job done that's asked of them and are key players in the rebuilding of the team.

The best part? You get them alot cheaper than a 1st round pick.

If you make smart draft choices, you can easily find players to rebuild your team, and still use a first rounder to find a playmaker for your team.

Also, you being a Bills fan...are you complaining about Trent Edwards? How much did it cost you to sign him?

He hasn't played a down in the league. Nobody is a sure thing so I don't know if this team needs "a McFadden."

The defense couldn't stop me running the ball. Who cares if he will be a Patriot? I think they'd pass on him and take Laurinitis if he decides to come out. They've got Maroney and don't use him so who cares if they get McFadden and don't use him? When 0-16 is a distinct possibility I don't think this team can worry about what division rivals are drafting.

    Re:

It is hard to take this kind of crap seriously. Why in the world would we take a running back with the #1 overall pick when we just took one with the second overall pick 3-years ago? Ronnie Brown was averaging 5.1 ypc for crying out loud! He posted the second-fastest 40 time at the combine, and he weighs 235 pounds! But he's not an Adrian Peterson type? Give me a break. How many running backs average 5.1 ypc? Brown is the rarest combination of size and speed in the NFL. How many yards do you think Peterson would have running behind Miami's line? Peterson is running behind Bryant McKinnie, Steve Hutchinson and Matt Birk. If you recall, it was Hutchinson that made Shaun Alexander look like a Hall of Famer in Seattle. Alexander hasn't been the same since he left. Chester Taylor has a 5.3 ypc average behind that line, so maybe someone ought to be asking how much of Peterson's success is attributable to his offensive line. He's a very good back, that has been made to look extraordinary behind that line.

Darren McFadden hasn't played a down in the NFL. McFadden isn't Adrian Peterson, and Adrian Peterson isn't dramatically better than Ronnie Brown. Peterson had a .3 ypc average against the Niners today.

Does anyone know how many running backs picked in the top five have ever won a Super Bowl with the team that drafted them? Only three in the last 37-years, Tony Dorsett, Walter Payton, and Jamal Lewis. In the case of Dorsett and Lewis, they were drafted by contenders who were already at a near Super Bowl level. Running backs are not good value in the first-round unless the team is ready to contend, a running back in the top five is pure folly. We already made that mistake once.

Remember the fools who killed the Texans for selecting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush? Or Joe Thomas over Adrian Peterson? I don't care how good Peterson is, he'll never have the value of a franchise lineman. The Steelers have proven this for decades. The Browns plugged in a broken down Jamal Lewis behind Eric Steinbach and Joe Thomas, and he's having a Pro Bowl year. That just demonstrates the folly of spending high picks on running backs. This team needs offensive and defensive linemen early.
